Just going through the 1st round today and reading about all the various teams and there are a number of teams I think have a decent chance of either moving down or moving up in this years draft. Chiefs--Down. I can see the Chiefs perhaps moving down in the draft to no lower than the #5-7 picks. They will take an OT in the first round, but if a team wants to jump ahead of the Jaguars to grab Dion The Chiefs may be game given the right price. There is a very good chance the Jags or the Raiders take Dion. The most likely trade would be with the Eagles. Odds 25-30% likely. Eagles--up or down- I can see the eagles moving up if they want Dion, or down a few slots if they want Geno. It would almost certainly be to the Chiefs if they move up, moving down is hard to call. 30-35% likely one way or the other. Cardinals-down-If all 3 OT's are off the board by their pick I can see them trying to move down a few slots. They might also be willing trade partners for the right price to move down even if one of the 3 OT's are still on the board. Jets-Down--I really have the feeling the Jets will move down, how far depends on the offers they get. If the Jets do trade Revis and get the #13 pick it would not surprise me if they traded down both picks to gain additional picks. Idzik is from the Seahawk mold and they frequently were players in moving down for picks. I see Idzik trying to gain more picks for depth this year. 50% chance of a move down. Dolphins-UP- I can see the dolphins using one or both of their additional picks in the 2nd and 3rd round to move up to get one of the 3 Prime OT's in the draft. How far up depends on how quickly the first two OT's go off the board. Saints-Up or Down-They'd like to trade up for one of the 3 OT's in the draft, but I don't think they have the ammo in this years draft unless one of the 3 OT's get down in to the #9 or #10 range. They dont' have a 2nd round pick this year so their trade up ammo is limited unless they want to expend 2014 pick(s). I think it's more likely they stay put or try to trade down where the 2nd tier OT's would have more value. 20% chance Rams--Up--They have ammo and they'd love to have Austin. But there are a couple other teams with ammo that also would love to have Austin. 40-50% chance trade up. Cowboys --Up--They need offensive line help, be it OT or OG. I suspect they move up if 4 of the 5 top OL are gone by a couple picks before them. Otherwise they stand pat. 30% chance. Vikings--Up-- They would love Austin, they would also love one or the other of Milliner or Trufant. They have ammo, and if they wanted to go all in could probably arrange trade up's for both Austin and one of the Corners...though that's unlikely. odds of the Vikings trading up 60% Patriots--Down--they're short on picks this year, I look for them to try to move down a few slots for more picks. 70% Falcons--Up-- They're time is now and they are one or two impact players away from being really dominate. Look for them to move up for a CB or WR or possibly TE. They probably don't have the ammo to move up in to the top 12, but a move in to the 13-18 range wouldn't surprise me. Odds of a move up 80%. (I'm 100% certain they'll try to move up, but not 100% certain they can find the right trading partner). 49ers--Up--They have the most trade ammunition in the draft and only have 1 or 2 holes. odd's of a move up 90%. They are like the falcons in needing to find a willing trade partner, but the 49ers have enough picks to really sweeten the pot for the right player.
It really just depends on who falls. The 49ers are almost certainly going to move up somewhere. They have way more picks than spots. If not with 31 or 34, I'd expect them to use some picks to get back into the top or middle of the 2nd round. The Falcons have a history of trading up and talk is they want a CB, but I'm not sure if there's anyone worth trading way up for. Maybe they move up just a little for a guy like Desmond Trufant or Jamar Taylor, but would giving up half of their draft for Dee Milner or Xavier Rhodes be worth it? I could see the Vikings or Rams moving up to get Tavon Austin. Would add a big play threat to either team and they each have the picks to do so. Couldn't see the Saints moving up with so few picks... Dallas seems to trade up a lot. I wonder if they'll move up for Kenny Vaccaro with their 1st and 2nd or Eric Reid with their 2nd and 3rd. I'd throw the Bengals up there too. They have four picks in the first three rounds and not too many glaring holes. If I'm Idzik, I'm desperate to move down with the 9th or 13th. Always seems ideal to think it, but I'll bet there will be some opportunities come draft day.
I could also see us moving up for a QB from the 2nd to the late first or early 2nd. If, say, Geno Smith falls into the 20's, I could see Idzik making a move for him with the extra ammo from the Revis trade.
I'd hope that if we move down, Then Idzik is able to wrangle 2014 1st-rounders into the deals. I'd definitely consider calling the Cowboys (for Vaccaro) or the 49ers(for Austin/Patterson) as they both would probably look into doing whatever it takes to land their players
Joekel and Fischer are 1 and 1a, they will go to the Chiefs and Jags in either order. If the Cards are smart they will move up to 3 and take Lane Johnson before the Eagles do, otherwise they could just stay put and take either Warmack or Fluker. Raiders will take Sharrif Floyd or move back IMHO. Eagles could take Floyd if someone takes Johnson at # 3 and the elite LTs are gone. God knows what Detroit will do but they need defense badly. Browns will take Millner or trade down. Bills are unlikely to go front seven so they could be looking at OL, QB, or even WR, If we have two picks in the top 15 I hope we trade down from # 9 unless one of the top four or five players falls to us.
I can see Miami trading up to 4 to grab Eric Fisher. Carolina and Zona switching spots, SD trading up to 6. also can see either STL or Minn trading up to 9 with the Jets for Tavon Austin.
I do think Austin is probably the player that will net the Jets the best chance of moving down. As another poster said in another post "why would they trade to the Jets at #9 when they could wait for a lower pick since its unlikely that the next few teams would take Austin". (paraphrased). The answer to that is pretty simple really, there are at least 3 or 4 teams rumored to be looking to trade up for Austin, The Jets are probably the first team that would be willing to trade down far enough (for the right price) and the next few teams would probably be trade down partners as well. If you wait to pull the trigger another one of the teams could, and probably would, jump ahead of where you're waiting for. Unlike Revis where there was only one suiter Tavon has multiple suiters and the difference in price between the #9 and the #13 spot in the draft isn't big enough to risk losing a player like Austin by trying to cheap out by waiting a couple draft spots. Assuming of course the teams really do want Austin.
Looks like things are becoming clearer: Chiefs goes LT at one Jags could go defense but probably take a LT Raiders could go DT, LT, or trade down (other team would take LT) Eagles want LT but may have to settle for G, DT or pass rusher Browns take Millner or trade down Cards want LT but may be on outside looking in Bills look to go QB Likely to be selected before 9: 3 LTs (Joekel, Fischer, Johnson) 1 QB (who knows which?) 1 CB (Millner) 1 DT (probably Floyd but could be Star) 1 OLB / DE (Jordan will go somewhere in top 7) That leaves a lot of talent at 9 and even at 13.
It would be a draft history first if three OT's went in the first 3 picks, but in this years draft class it's entirely possible. But I'm almost certain the Jag's and Raiders go Defense in round one, especially the Raiders.
