To get two studs at positions of need from one of the top five defenses in college football each of the last two years would be awesome. These two Dawgs have teeth!!!
If that's the Jets first three picks the fan base will be moaning for three years. He needs at least one splashy pick in there somewhere.
Jarvis Jones is a very splashy pick. He represents what has been missing for half a decade or more and he's a big name and he's got the vibe going that he's just going to step into the NFL and keep rolling. Nobody doubts this guy's enthusiasm for the game or desire to be the best. The medical issues are the only thing keeping him from being a top 3 pick. If he had no medical red flags he's my best player available in the 2013 draft.
Ingram WOULD'VE been a top 10 pick if not for short arms & some other issues. But he wasn't. The same way Jones could fall out of the top 10 for similar issues. He doesn't exactly have long arms or length either. We won't even get into his crappy workouts that everyone wants to ignore. I'm not even gonna engage your other comments..you can keep having your hissy fit b/c I have a different opinion on everyone's Jets draft darling.
The Jets don't just play a 3-4 though. They play multiple formations. Rex likes OLBs w/ wingspan & long arms who he can leave on an island via the edge for both run fits as well as coverage. He was only so- so at setting the edge in college & he doesn't have the frame to get bigger. As for Von miller & Matthews..no way Jones has the movement skills either guy had coming out.He doesn't have the first step or bending ability Miller had & isn't as polished via coverage/run fits as Matthews was(Though he is a better pass rusher than Matthews was coming out). What Jones brings is good feet & heavy hands. Can he rush the passer? Yes he can. But Let's also keep in mind that the most important aspect Rex looks for in pass rushers is closing speed & movement skills. Again, this isn't exactly Jones strength. Jones can be crowned on here night & day...I'm still not convinced Rex will be sold on him OR that he's a good fit as a 3 down player.
I've read that he does have good closing, quick strike speed, but that he does need more bend and another move. I doubt the nation's leader in TFL is so-so at setting the edge, that's the weaker part of his game, though. I've read that he's good at getting his hands up. His arms are 33", Ingram's 31.5" I don't know about his weight room issues but I've read that he's relentless on the field. Maybe he has a tendency to rely too much on his natural ability. Throw some work out clause or weight maintenance clauses in his contract if you feel strongly about it. I know for sure I want relentless out of my LB though. And all the production sure does look juicy. All that being said, until he meets with the Jets this is all moot because the Jets aren't going to select a guy they've never met with in the top 10.
You might be right, we will see if they get him. I'm just thinking that the Jets are not going to be very good this year and maybe next too so to keep the fans interested you need one really, really good offensive or defensive player to keep their minds off the fact that the team basically sucks.
Before the combines and UGA pro day, just about everybody had Jarvis Jones as a top three pick. I'm having a his say fit because I state and prove you're full of shit and make stuff up to support an unsupportable position. Whatever
Hmm..kinda like how Mingo was top 3 heading into his Junior year. No one on here has an issue dropping his stock though. I make up stuff eh?So it's NOT true that he had crappy workouts? It's not true that he doesn't have long arms or the frame to add weight? It's not true that most scouts say he's only so-so at setting the edge? How the hell is it unspportable anyway? Just because YOU don't like it?
Round 1 = Jarvis Jones, makes me happy. Round 2 = Justin Pugh, I'd prefer a TE or WR (somebody that can make some plays) Round 3 = Shawn Williams, I'd prefer offense here because I think Jets can grab a decent Safety in round 4. Let's add two positive/productive player on offense in first 3 rounds.
These are all viable arguments. And for the record..my biggest concern is not that Jones won't be a productive pass rusher given the right situation..moreso that he doesn't fit the Jets scheme. Not every prospect is a fit for every team. I think Jones would be great in a downhill aggressive scheme like Detroit where he can be aggressive in filling gaps & using that natural explosion. What I question is the number of other things the Jets would ask him to do in their scheme. People on here hate to talk about athleticism & movement skills but those are the keys to determining what type of versatility a player offers. Unfortunately these are not strengths for Mr. Jones. The Jets NEED an athlete for their lb corps.Someone long w/ speed, the ability to bend & to finish. We saw what happens when you have too many stiff thumpers last year.
This is Idzik's 1st draft, he's going to go with safe, football picks Tanny drafted Ferguson and Mangold in 06 and that helped build our core then Revis and Harris and now we got strong on D then Gholston, Keller, Sanchez, etc... I want football players until we've established a strong core Cooper is my ideal pick in Round 1
Considering the Seattle defense was built on speed and athletes while Idzik was there why would anyone think that his first pick for defense would be someone that is considered something other than that. I know Kiper takes Mingo off the board but I think the logic that Idzik / Jets would select a player that may be a good player but does not have the attributes that you new GM seems to value is flawed at best.
Huge difference between stock dropping after an unproductive season and stock dropping after Defensive Player of the Year has poor combines/Pro Days. You made a lot of shit up. You created that Jones couldn't set an edge. Then you back peddled to he wasn't good at it. No it's not true most scouts say he's so-so at setting the edge. That is another of your plethera of fantasies. You maybe found one that probably judged him on the SEC CHampionship game alone, but I doubt even that. You made up he never dropped into coverage. I don't know if you intentionally lie to make your points or if you really believe it. There is also a huge difference between the two as mistakes aren't lies, they are just errors.
As a Jet fan how could anyone be upset with drafting the most decorated pass rusher in college football last year? Did he have all his sacks against a poor competition? No actually the best in the country...did he disappear in big games? No mostly stepped up and was the best player on the field... Do you think that people in the War room are going to forget those things because he ran a poor 40 time? I don't think so and whoever does will probably regret it
Weren't you the one lauding Vaccaro to be drafted in the 1st by the Jets? Gotta love Kiper's picks, BTW. Jones will step right in and help immediately. I think he's a sure day 1 starter.
I don't appreciate you questioning my credibility. That said..I really don't give a crap what you or anyone else thinks about me. You clearly don't like my opinion & are stuck up a certain player's jock...so I guess stay up that certain player's jock. It doesn't get any more insulting or amateur than calling someone a liar just cause you don't like their opinion.
