Saints believe in stockpiling RBs. And when you look at the inconsistencies as well as injuries at that position keague wide..that isn't a bad thing. I think our Jets have TRIED to do the same thing when you look at all the RBs they have drafted..but many of the names haven't worked out for one reason or another.
I don't know how you can say in one breath he wasn't bad at drafting but did so in a way that killed our depth.
This hasn't worked out because when you draft late guys without speed or hands there's really nothing else they're going to be particularly good at. The two guys they drafted who had both were in the 4th round in Leon Washington and Joe McKnight. Washington blew out to the injury basically and McKnight has been an enigma wrapped up in a conundrum who blows chunks (literally.) Looking at Cedric Houston, Shonn Greene, Bilal Powell and Terrance Ganaway what you see are north south runners without a lot of trimmings. Those guys can't be your backups. A very good north south runner can be your starter but having mediocre north south guys on the depth chart behind the starter just limits your options heavily and can make injuries disastrous because when you're mediocre and all you do is run between the tackles you're not really worth much.
IMO, This is the Jets biggest problem in the front office. They have been absolutely terrible at drafting skill players. Is this finally the year they draft an explsoive play maker or 2?
Conor Orr @ConorTOrr 31m RT @MikeGarafolo: Saints announced they re-signed RB Chris Ivory after he visited the Jets. We'll see if this means he's staying. Could be the Jets want him but not at the price of a second.
Getting Ivory would be big. I think he's gonna be a damn good back. A second is too much but a 4th or 5th I'd be cool with.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN 6m Jets have made an offer for Saints RB Chris Ivory, who signed his RFA tender today. #NYJ still wants to trade for him, per sources. \And this: Wherte they mention late round pick. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/19/saints-sign-chris-ivory/
Would be thrilled if the jets could get him for a 5th or less.A TC battle of Powell,McKnight,Goodson & ivory would be fantastic. This would also be one less hole to address via the draft
He's not worth a 4th. A 4th is Zac Dysert or Landry Jones or Hugh Thornton or Alvin Bailey or T.J. McDonald or Stepfan Taylor or Joseph Randle or Dion Sims, etc. In other words the 106 is a really good prospect who doesn't have an injury track record and hasn't been continually passed over as a starter at the NFL level. The Jets have a history of spending draft picks on other people's problems. That's part of the reason we're looking at the roster we are right now.
Jets make trade offer for Saints running back Chris Ivory BY Manish Mehta Running back Chris Ivory signed his one-year, $2.023 million restricted free agent tender with the Saints on Friday, which means that he can now be traded. The Daily News has learned that the Jets have made an offer for Ivory, who visited their team facility last week. The Jets never considered parting with their second-round pick in this year’s draft by signing Ivory to an offer sheet, but they’re interested in acquiring the bruising 26-year-old running back for a lower draft choice. The Saints’ crowded backfield that also includes Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas and Mark Ingram increases the likelihood that they’d move Ivory, who had only 40 carries for 217 yards in limited playing time last season. The 6-0, 222-pound Ivory would complement Mike Goodson and Bilal Powell in the Jets’ backfield. http://twitter.com/MMehtaNYDN
