So answering questions with other questions is now a valid argument? Which part of that is based on facts?

Did you forget that Revis tore his ACL? Do you honestly believe that won't factor into the talks or that the Jets might wait to see how he returns before hooking him up with a deal?

By not really negotiating with Revis at all, and making it very actively and publicly known that they are seeking a trade at the worst possible time to trade him in his career.. - the Jets have all but written the book on "trade or bust".

I'm not saying Tampa will call them on this, because maybe they just want Revis on their football team (go figure?) but if they wanted to they could easily call them on it and If I were them I would. - I'd say talk to us when you have another offer for a first round pick and maybe we'll try to beat it, but for now, let him heal and maybe we'll talk about giving you something in next years' draft at a later date.

 Well obviously you are more qualified to negotiate and work deals than Izzy. Why aren't you working as a GM somewhere? It seems like you really know your stuff. Izzy is playing it like the pressure is all on TB. If they want him, then they'll pay an unfair price. If not, we keep him. It's really win win. Of course you'll find a way to spin it as TB holding us hostage and us magically having no leverage in the deal. Same old Jets fans.

If the report that the Bucs have decided to make a real lowball offer is true then I expect we're going to August on this one.

There is no incentive for the Jets to let Revis go cheap, meaning for any player or two that they could get out of the draft. The incentive for the Jets to let Revis go at this point is that they could get a handful of players, including a blue-chip pick in return.

I'm guessing the Bucs are going to pony up the 13 and a few other picks. They need Revis.

The Jets own Revises rights for the 2013 season. They have the luxury of waiting to find out if he's recovered and can play at the same level before negotiating with him if they want to. They also have the option of negotiating behind closed doors without the media knowing if they've successfully fixed the "leaks" issue. The Jets are scheduled to have more than enough cap space in 2014 btw, and the the CB market seems to be deflated.

The fact that their aren't any reports of the Jets negotiating with Revis at this point isn't an indicator that they're in trade Revis or bust mode IMO. I guess I can understand where someone is coming from with that point of view but you have to admit it's going out on a limb.

Do the Bucs want to go out on that limb if they think Revis is the player they need to fix their secondary woes? Does the Bucs GM in the last year of his contract want to trust that limb? What are their alternatives at this point?

This just seems like a negotiating tactic to me, a week ago the Buc's reportedly offered a 1st, 3rd & 6th. This week the offer is now a 1st, 3rd &
5th. Suddenly they don't want to give up 3 picks!!!
No one really knows what the f*ck is going on. I'm sure this will become clearer early next week, still think he goes to the Buc's.

I'll say it again: slights and goodwill has nothing to do with re signing Revis. Dollars and cents will be the deciding factors.

Exactly. The only thing that is going to matter in the end is the contract amount and how it compares to the offers Revis is likely to receive on the open market.

The reason I think the Jets can't re-sign Revis at this point is that no offer that they make that is remotely reasonable against the cap for a CB is going to surpass the offers Revis believes he will get on the open market.

So if Revis is going to be on the Jets in 2014 it will be in a "return as a free agent" transaction instead of an extension. The only chance the Jets have to get Revis at a manageable price is if he sees for himself the level of offers that are actually out there and concludes that the Jets offer is the best despite not being a block-buster contract.

Even then, it's much more expensive to work in the northeast than in Florida so I think odds are pretty good he heads there anyway. A $13M a year offer from the Bucs is worth more financially than a $13M a year offer from the Jets.

I completely agree with this, but I don't see any reason to be optimistic that Woody will show him the money needed to keep him.

I don't believe the reports of what has been offered because we would have instantly accepted a first, third and fifth. There's a lot of volleying back in forth in the media between the teams and Revis' people to get the deal worked out to their benefit. They have their own agendas that they're pushing.

I don't think anybody in either organization is talking to the media about this at this point. I think there's an orchestrated campaign to raise the noise level on the potential for a trade however I don't think either team is much involved in that. I think there are parties in the middle playing both sides against the other and generously stretching the facts along the way.

I doubt there has been a serious exchange of offers between the Bucs and Jets at this point either. I don't think the Bucs would likely have made a serious offer to the Jets before Revis got in-house for his physical. I'm pretty sure the Jets wouldn't have made an offer except as a counter-offer to a Bucs offer. I'm guessing that both sides are just beginning to approach the proposition and they're walking through a minefield of rumors laid ahead of time by somebody else.

The media is writing a lot about this, often essentially just mining each other for material to keep the topic fresh.

I wouldn't be surprised if we just get down to draft day and nothing has happened, because the two teams were never as involved as we've been led to believe. You can make a huge amount of smoke off of a very small fire with the right ingredients.

And it is my right and I can assure you my perogative to complain that such a person owns the team. Because he owns the team, he is above criticism?

You probably don't even know what point you were trying to make.

You are so smart, you don't even read what others here have said in response to your question.

The apparent answer is one of two things. One is that the Jets still will renegotiate an extension, which remains quite possible. The other is that before any negotiations have occurred, Woody has decided he cannot take the emotional trauma of doing so. I can think of no other explanations, and of course the second one is an unreasonable one.

    Your turn, smart guy.

This just reported on Twitter! Different day, different offer!

    Jason Cole ‏@JasonColeYahoo 6m
As @NFLSTROUD is explaining, condition from the Bucs in Revis deal since owners mtg has been: 1st rdr in '13 only OR 3rd in '13 + 1st in '14

this thread is a speculative mess.

does anyone have any link confirming that
    A. the jets have not had any negotiations with revis?
    B. revis wants 15 a year?
    C. the bucs have offered anything?
or is this 100+ pages of unfounded rumors from people with knowledge of the way the organizations think?
the longer this goes the more i think its a troll job started from the report from anonomous sources that woody doesnt want revis.
i mean think about it.woody, who likes being in the spotlite, doesnt want the best defender in the league?a player with nike deals and other comercial deals is the guy woody wants out?

Fair enough, I'll admit I am going out on a limb...but If I can deduce it as just a fan, a guy who's paid a lot of money to analyze this stuff, that's privy to more knowledge than I am, could easily deduce that Johnson doesn't want to pay Revis as well.

I think they certainly have alternatives to Revis... they could nab Xavier Rhodes or make a trade to get Dee Milliner, for example, or wait until the June 1st cuts and grab a saavy vet. Those guys won't be Revis, but it'll improve their secondary and will come cheaper anyway.

That is interesting about their GM being in the last year of his contract. I didn't know this, thank you for sharing as it throws another wrinkle in - maybe that's why he's putting himself against the wall a little.

I just think from what we've been exposed to, that it's getting quite obvious the Jets have decided they either won't or can't restructure Revis and if that becomes common knowledge than they put themselves in a bad place.

    Good post.

But it occurs to that there may be some part of TB's thinking as follows.

The problem with a negotiation between one seller and one buyer where the "product" involved is essentially unique, is how does the buyer know what the right price is? Even a comps analysis is problematic, since many feel that past deals, from prior years, do not adequately reflect the current situation, including changes to the agreement with the union. TB on one hand has an advantage that no other team is bidding up the purchase price. But that does not mean that they cannot still overpay for Revis.

There is a pr side to this for TB. They do not operate in a vacuum. I have to assume they do not want to enter into a deal that will draw however they define or perceive too much criticism. I of course do not mean to overstate this factor, but it is something of a factor. The people running the TB operation I am sure do not want to come out of this with there being a general perception they overpaid.

But with no one else bidding, how do they tell themselves what the right market price is for Revis?

To some extent this is also a problem for the Jets, but they can always say (and while I would find this specious, many here and probably elsewhere seemed prepared to swallow such nonsense) that the TB offer, assuming it is above some bare minimum like only a first round pick, was all they could get for someone they felt they had to move.

Well of course they do not HAVE to move Revis, so there is a problem right there, but too many accept that argument. So in practical terms the Jets have an advantage over TB here.

i don't think this goes into august. i think, hope, that when training camp comes idzic shuts it down. march and april is deal making time. august is football time. if idzic wants his first season to go smoothly he tells everyone it is over and there will be no more revis discussion.revis is on the roster
,revis will play the season. all revis questions will be responded to with "no comment". otherwise the beat reporters will pick at it everyday and it will be the tebow deal from last year all over again.
that will quiet it down some, other g.m.'s will still make a call if interested but idz will need to grab the reins on this tightly if revis is in camp this summer
