They may have only had 6 shots but they hit the post/crossbar about 14 times

The Isles play a good game. Have to give them that. They will either be rolled over in the first round because they are the Isles or they are going to give a team a real run for their money. Believe it will be run for the money.

I dont know..have mentioned it before and we can point to Staal not being in the lineup but I think the Rangers defense is really overrated. Especially late in games. They have zero presence in front of the net and lose guys down low every game. Yet you listen to the broadcasts and even national broadcasts and you would think we have future hall of famers 1 through 4.

You can see the frustration in Lunquist during other teams dominating their end and then there is always the power play setup when other teams are not on the power play where teams just control the puck as if there was one that happens at least 2 times a game. That is more system than defense but I just dont get the media love affair with them.

Yeah, you get the games where other teams get less than 8 shots in a period but boy oh boy those attempts are usually beauties.

Top it all off with about a half dozen forwards that cant score so you would think are strong in the defensive zone and you wonder what the hell is going on.

Ok..thats the negative. Positive? Its the NHL...the league that WILL produce at least one guaranteed 6-8 seating win in the first few rounds and anything can happen.

If King gets/stays hot and we get a couple lines going well anything can happen.

My favorite Jay is when they collapse all 5 low in front of Hank and give up the point shots, it's like a PP, so someone has to go out to the point and get rifled with a shot in the leg, usually Cally...I like when they force the play with the forecheck, if the opponent can't get out of their zone they can't score...

Agreed but a few of those Hank has the angle and there is no net to shoot at, so it either goes wide or off the post or crossbar, obviously not all of them...

I'm not sure what the idea of collapsing the forwards is. On a power play you obviously want to clog a shooting lane and you collapse to cut the angle as much as you can. Even strength, the forwards have no business being so low in the zone. That's simple hockey. Especially when you have a goaltender (any goaltender for this matter) who's primary weakness is on redirected shots and deflections. Having that many guys collapsed is just asking for a bad bounce.

Exactly MR...drives me crazy. Even the power play defense..the more aggressive defenses are the better ones in the league. I dont get it. So much attention to getting low and cutting down angles and you end up with guys limping off the ice every night.

The one thing this team has going for it is the 48 game season...and blockiing less shots this year than last because come playoff time..this team is usually shot.

I agree: Hitting the post twice in one game is status-quo for Del Zotto!

yeah about the defensive posture the Rangers are in....they've got to do something about that, becasue the book is out on them now..........every team they play just sends guys to the net because they know the d is always collapsing, playing to block a shot instead of getting out on the point men......which creates a crowd and high possibility of weird bounces, which sometimes are the only way to beat Hank.......sometimes. It becomes like 2 point men just throwing it at the net with a crowd of like 8 guys all around the net from both teams.

kind of weird that one of their stregnths (shot blocking...clogging lanes) is really being used against them and winds up keeping them pinned in their own zone for too long....they've got to adjust.

dude this was me all weekend, uncontrollable chills/shakes for like half an hour followed by a massive fever and crazy blood pressure, massive headache, 3 straight nights. Shakes are gone but my throat still feels like it's on fire and if I stand for too long it's like I'm going to pass out. Totally felt like my deathbed like it's time to write a will

It always looks like the other team is on a powerplay.

I only thing I can think of is they want to clog the front , so no easy goals, from in front or the slot?

It's possible, but that's not a smart way to defend. Giving up way too much up top. It's like playing back on your heels and having no counter punch in the defensive zone. Your shot blockers are strong but they're not brick and mortar.

Can't get to the puck to clear it, too much possession by opposing teams in our zone

I agree, would rather force the play with the forecheck, make the opposition go 200 feet to score

it was smart for a season last year when they sort of took that art of blocking to a new level and teams weren't necessarily sure how to attack it, also the Rangers were much better at winning loose pucks along the boards last year too and spent more time in the othe team's zone.

Now is too predictable and takes the pressure off of whomever carries the puck into their zone.........knowing all they have to do is put the brakes on........let their forwards get to the net and fire away....or win the puck along the walls and pass back to their point men who will uindoubtedly have a lot of room. I mean that's oversimplified, but that's what I'm seeing.
