Let's say we trade revis for the Bucs 1st, 3rd and 5th. 1st round-#9 (if he does fall) DT Star Lotulelei. He solidifies our defensive front. Wilkerson-Star-Coples would be a deadly and dominate front. Throw Ellis, Snacks, and Garay in there and it's the strength of our team and frees up our linebackers, especially a speedy Davis. 1st round-#13 Chance Warmack or Jonothan Cooper. Solidifies our Offensive line and gives whoever is our qb the protection to have the time to throw. Gives our runbingbacks the lanes and opening to get chunk yardage. D'Brick-Warmack or Cooper-Mangold-Colon-Howard. That is a pretty strong front, hoping Howard improves and Colon stays healthy. Add Duccasse as the 6th man(a powerful man in the run game) and we have a top 10 offensive line. Remember that without protection up front even the best struggle, it all starts up front. Barry sanders is the only runbingbacks I know that can do it without a oline but imagine if he was running behind the line that emmit had, good god he would have every record a rb could have. 2nd round-#39 OLB/DE Okefor- I'm hoping he falls this far. Right here I think we should take the best OLB for a 3-4 defense available, if the value at the pick is right. Add Okefor to wilk, star, coples, Barnes and that is one hell of a pass rush. 3rd round-#72 TE Travis Kelce. There are a lot of jets fans wanting this guy and I think it's the right pick. Feisty with his run blocking and can catch the ball. He is pretty agile for his size. He reminds me sort of like Heath Miller but more athletic. He might be the best overall tight end in this draft and is definitely a better blocker out of the top prospects. Add him to our improved oline and be will also help open up running lanes and help with pass protection, something we haven't had since Anthony Brecht, Keller could never improve and prove he can hold up in the blocking game. Kelce may not stretch the field but is above average in route running and catching the ball with his hands. I loved what I seen from him on the little film that I watched. 3rd round-#73(from Bucs) WR Steadman Bailey. This draft class is loaded with quality wide recievers. Maybe not true number ones but plenty of good number twos. With so many in this draft there there will be a few that fall to the third round and even the fourth round. I really like what I've seen from Bailey and if he's available in the 3rd I think it's the right choice. Holmes most likely will be gone after this year leaving a big hole to fill. A group of Holmes-Hill-Bailey-Kerley would be solid for this season and then Bailey slipping into the starting roll opposite Hill next season with Kerley in the slot. You can never have to many recievers on your team nowadays. I also liked what I seen from Gates last season and is a solid #5, and I'm hoping that kid Thomas Mayo impresses the coaches and makes the team. 4th round-#106 Saftey Baccari Rambo. This is the round where I think we can grab a solid starting Safety. Idk if Rambo last this long but if so we take him. If not there's should be a starter quality safety here available. Lester, Evens, Williams. Pair one of these guys with Dawan Landry and a rotation of Bush and Allen, who I do have high hopes for, and are backfield doesn't look to shabby. 5th round-#141 RB Miguel Maysonet or Rb Mike Gillislee(If he falls). I think a rb should be taken every year because you never know what you might find. There have been a lot of RB's that have been taken in later rounds or Undrafted free agents that become good players. I think Miguel Maysonet can be this guy. I'm really hoping Le'Veon Bell drops, he is being overlooked I think and is a good all around back. 5th round-#147 CB/S Sanders Commings. I think he can fill the nickel roll as our guy to cover tight ends. Has the coverage skill and size to go up against tighends more so then a slot reciever. I think we play a lot of 4-6 fronts this year, scary though with Wilson on the outside. But I like the idea of Wilkerson, Star, Coples, Okefor with there hands in the dirt and then having a mix of Landry, Davis, Harris,Barnes, Allen, Bush, Rambo and Commings. Youth mixed with some vets. This season I believe in letting the young guys get the experience and improve so in 2014 and behind we have a contender with experience. 6th round-#78 DT Lawrence Okey. I say we take this guy and see what Rex and Dunbar can do with him. Two of the best coaches there are when it comes to dline. I think another team will try to grab him like the 49ers. Low risk with a 6th rounder but it can be a home run. The guy has the size and athletic ability and as a rugby player myself he won't have a big problem adjusting to football 7th round-#215 FB Tommy Bohanon. I played High School football against this kid. He was a real beast back then lol 7th round is really BPA and hoping a 5th round or so prospect falls. I would really happy with this draft minus the fact of losing Darrelle Revis. I know I will get, no qb??? But I don't a see a qb I'd like to take in this draft besides geno smith but that is an unpopular choice at this point. Well enjoy!
I like this an awful lot. I'm a big proponent of beefing up both lines and selecting the BPA to do so. Some will argue the value of a guard at either first spot but I'm on board with it. Something tells me than in rounds 3-4 Jets will take a stab at a QB, could E J Manuel be available on the 3rd?
To me 13 is not to high to take one of the two best guard prospects to come out in a lonnngggg time. Warmack is considered one of the best players in this draft and closest thing to a sure thing, future pro bowler. Manuel will probably go in the 2nd round. I don't knowing about the qb's this year besides geno and wouldn't mind taking him of he's there at 9. I know a lot on this board are against taking him but to me he is accurate and has a good deep ball that isn't just thrown in the air but with great accuracy
The problem with this theory is you need good RB's or slot guys who can gain you chunks of yardage. The Jets have zero proven guys who can do this. Goodson? A backup his whole career with injury history. Powell doesn't have that quick explosion to do this, he's serviceable at best. If you neglect top flight playmakers in the first round then you're left in the same situation as this past year with a lousy offense. Doesn't matter how good your O linemen are. It's baffling how some here think that the offense is just going to miraculously improve with an O lineman when this roster is competely devoid of high level talent at the offensive skill positions.
If it was just about this year, then you would be right. But the Jets aren't going anywhere anyway this season. We have a draft heavy with talent on the trenches. Stockpiling these players this year makes a lot of sense. Build your base this year and then in other years when talented skill players are more easily accessable (through the draft or free agency) then you take your shot at them. It presents an easier learning curve for them anyway. I'd easily sit through a year of watching David Garrard handing off to Mike Goodson if it meant having a dominant O-line and D-line for a decade. Those guys will be replaced in time. I've been against trading Revis, but if this is the type of draft the Jets get from a Revis trade then I will feel better about it because it means they aren't being reactionary or need driven and signifies a desire to get stronger on the lines, and that's NEVER a bad thing.
I agree with your premise of building for the future and solidifying the lines is always a good thing. However our O Line wasn't even that bad last year. It was probably middle of the pack. I would just rather take a more balanced approach for this draft. I could easily make the counter argument that drafting Tavon Austin would set us up with one of the most dynamic playmakers in the league for years to come. Then we could draft an O lineman in rounds 2,3 or 4.
The Jets definitely could use help on the offensive line at some point. I think Ducasse is likely to be gone by the end of training camp. His stakeholders have left or are likely leaving the building as Idzik redoes the personnel department. I'd argue the Jets are better off getting a mid-rounds guard though. Somebody like Hugh Thornton or Alvin Bailey. What you want at guard is a solid player who won't break the bank on you when his contract comes due. Take a guy in the 4th round and then extend him after the 3rd year if he works out when the leverage is pretty equal. Really you'd prefer to find a diamond in the rough as a late pick or UDFA because he'll be cheap against the cap his whole career, like Brandon Moore was, but it's hard to find those guys. Also, there has to be a QB in there somewhere. This draft does not seem to have top end QB's but there are plenty of prospects worth taking a shot on later in the draft. Not finding one to grab is a waste of a build cycle.
i like star pick. if he is there he is bpa no question about it. as far as the 13, i'd rather take austin or even mingo. i know thats not popular, but we need game changers on both sides of the ball and a guard is not a game changer.
Goodson was a a backup to good starters, give him a chance. The games he started he ran for over 100 yards
I wouldnt taking Austin either. I was just creating a scenario. I love what I've seen from Austin and also wouldnt mind taking him at 9 or geno smith. I have a feeling to that we are going to give Duccasse the job and see what happens. There's so many different things jets can do in the draft because we have so many holes and needs
1. I like the first two rounds. A LOT. I'd be ecstatic if this happens. 2. That said, I'd like one more OLB at 3rd round. The reason is - if Jets can constantly generate enough advantage at DL, these 2nd and 3rd round prospects should be able to face easier time getting to the QB. (Jets should draft OLBs next year too, but they shouldn't have to burn high picks for them once they are set) 3. Also, one more OL at 4th/5th somewhere. (Or maybe UDFA - after all, the likes of Shaun O'Hara were UDFA at one time or another. Speaking of which... Jets OL coach is not what I would call the Ace in the house. Maybe Jets should stick with drafting OLs.) 4. If Renfree (from Duke) is there, why not him at 7th?
Does anyone else see a problem taking a guard with the Revis pick? Most fans would be disappointed that we traded our best player in years for picks and then with that pick Goodell announces the Jets take a guard. I really like Cooper/Warmack but I just think the boos would be deafening.
I like this draft a lot, but my ideal draft would go Austin at #9 and Vacarro at #13. Both would be "reaches" by a few picks based on projections, but they are both immediate starters and difference makers on both sides of the ball at positions of need.
I don't think we need a NT that high. We have Kenrick Ellis who should be able to start and then Garay and either Harrison or a new guy to back him up. I think we have greater needs elsewhere. PS Also I'm guessing Pouha might be brought back cheaply... but my main hope is on K. Ellis
I think just about anybody but Geno Smith, E.J. Manuel or Tavon Austin is going to bring boos on the 13 if the Jets have it. It's not rational but people want some excitement out of the early picks and a guard in the Revis spot is about as unexciting as you can get. The Jets have to take the BPA, whoever that is, at 13 but I'm going to be holding on to my seat when they make the pick and hoping the volume level is not too negative. There's a really good argument for trying to trade that pick down some. Diffuse the value through several players, so none of them bear the stigma of being the primary value in the Revis deal. Get extra players for the rebuild. Move the player picked off of the Revis pick in the first deal. It's kind of a win-win for the Jets and whoever gets picked with the 1st in the deal.
I understand & am not opposed to rebuilding this roster from the inside out. That said.. it's really hard to justify not taking a true play maker w/ that # 9 pick. Play makers are just SO hard to come by & the Jets have been lacking that element for so long. I really think Tayvon Austin or perhaps Corradelle Patterson is awfully hard to argue against.
I agree a trade down would be ideal. I pity whoever thinks he has to fill Revis' shoes. I'm getting really excited for this draft though. Can't wait to see what direction Idzik wants to take the team for 2013.
there is nothing wrong with a strength stronger. if bpa dictates that. if star is bpa come 9 than i hope idzic is strong enough to stay with the board and don't reach for need. star would do so kuch to help the defense it would improve the play of lesser olb's
I do have high hopes for Ellis and hoping we bring pouha back. Again is this the draft I want to go down 100%, no but would I be pretty happy with it, absolutely. Star would be BPA at 9, I do want Austin tho and like what he brings. Like I said we have so many needs and holes that there isn't one way to do this.
I don't know anything about Renfree or any qb's except for geno. 7th round mock is just a random pick. If we take Renfree it doesn't matter to me
