NBA is different, players have a lot more power in the NBA than the NFL. It depends, if you can get Revis in a room and to agree for 8-10 million with a no holdout clause, that might be better than the extra pick. If Revis is holding hard in the sand he wants to get paid big $$, then the pick becomes more enticing. Also I guess Revis is coming to the training facility today so the Jets doctors can evaluate him fully. That's going to be important
If he would agree to 5 year/ 45-55 Million I'd be happy. Forget the extra pick, I'd take Revis. Part of me keeps hoping that his agents look at the following: CB market is going down HUGE risk playing this season without extension Unlike most people, appreciate that Jets willing to give big contract before he steps on the field & shows he's fully recovered. I've gotta admit that my hopes & expectations don't line up on this issue. I expect Revis to push for top defensive player $$ no matter what. Also think he'll gamble on himself & hit FA unrestricted if he has to.
Everybody reporting Jets have put talks on hold for now. Whatever happens at this point falls squarely on the shoulders of Idzik.
i would think if revis would want to be overpaid by the jets he would also want to be overpaid by the next team.... and that he would be difficult to sign in a 72 hour window if there were one. and what you can get for him is not enough if he doesnt sign an extension, people are not going to be terribly interested in trading away top draft picks for a one year guy coming off knee surgery. so really no matter what happens the ball is really in revis court, he can do pretty much whatever he wants to do. as much as some of you guys hate to think the player controls the board in this case he still does.
No, he doesnt. No market, In fa t the Jets, currently hold his career in their hands,,,and can make him play for a year, and risk injury, since hes 28, another injury effecrively ends his ability to get any big payday. His rep as a headache, is already well established
Sal Pal just reported trade talks are on pause on ESPN. Here's the article from ESPN reporting the same (ignore the video) http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/9173439/new-york-jets-put-darrelle-revis-trade-talks-hold
Did he say sources on the Jets or in the Jets front office? Just curious as to the provenance of the idea. Couldn't find a direct quote from him on ESPN, just the ESPN News Sources article.
I read somewhere the offer is now Tampa's 2013 1st, 3rd and 5th. That's pretty damn good, IMO. Sorry, don't have the link but I'm sure someone will dig it up and post it. Edit: Oh it was on gang green. Here's the link
If the offer has gotten up to 13, 73 and 147 we're starting to get in the ballpark of a healthy Revis deal. Champ Bailey went to the Broncos with a 2nd round pick for Clinton Portis. He was widely seen as the best young CB in football at that point and only 26. He was All-Pro for the three years after the trade.
and as good as Bailey was he wasn't half the player Revis has been BUT times have changed, we also got 2 1st rounders for Key which would never happen today.
Rich Cimini @RichCimini 1m MRI on Revis' surgically-repaired knee show he's ahead of schedule, per source. Cleared by Dr. Warren to run without restriction. #Jets Big news IMO
I'm just so skeptical of everything I read on this these days. There's so much mischief being done on a daily basis. It would be nice to see a "source on the Jets" or something similar in these reports. It would be nice to see the comment directly from the reporter. Instead we get "a source" followed by suggestions on what the Jets are going to do. We get reporters reporting on other reporters stories. Usually when it looks like there could be major BS or mischief involved there is.
If 1,3,5 are on the table...the deal shoukd already be done. You could put together a package to get from 9 to Jordan. A lower next year pick.... At 13, you can go BPA, At 39, Zach Ertz, And with two threes,, Barnard or Gilleslee, and Matthieu.
