I think Idzik has begun to plug the leaks (which Sunshiners like Barcs still refuse to admit existed). If the Jets are able to win, which I think will happen in '14, the Circus will really leave town. I expect a bad year. One in which the media will look for Rex' head.
 You are really still mad that I acknowledge unverified speculation as unverified speculation? I guess we should just believe all media speculation blindly.. especially if it's negative!
Whether it's Johnson or Idzik, the media blackout has been a great idea. If it helps the team focus and win, then I'm all for it.
Looking at some of the NY Post articles, it seems as though the media is trying to manufacture drama. Particularly Steve Serby and his idiotic drivel actually using the word 'Rextinugisher'. Glad we're not giving them anything. Do other teams get so heavily scrutinized about a freaking workout?
I think we've learned why professional teams go out of there way to be dull & boring in interviews. When Rex came in, he wanted to be open & establish friendly communication channels with the media. Think it's finally sunk in that you can't befriend the media. They smile at you when times are good & smile at you when they throw mud in your face. Even though Jets are entering silent mode, the media refuses to let go. Like trying to break up with some psycho lover. You can say the relationship is over but he/she refuses to accept it. Jets are gonna have to adopt the silent treatment for a lot longer than 1 offseason to change their relationship with the media.
There are a few media markets that really break the rules when it comes to how the media and fans and ultimately the team interact. New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, to a lesser extent Boston and LA. These are the markets in which there are several major media brands in competition with each other and the need to differentiate your product to sell is present. Everybody can't write the same stuff and sell product. In that scenario the better buzzers get most of the attention and most of the sales. So you have a heavy incentive for people to find ways to be different and sell by providing that perspective to the market. Being a gossipy writer is one way to do that. Being negative is another. There just isn't enough room on the happy happy wagon for more than a few people to sell at the same time. New York is also different from the other markets above in that there are two NFL franchises in the area. This makes two separate markets to sell Jets content into. A large Jets market and a smaller Giants market that wants to read negative stuff about the other team. I'm not saying that the Jets market is larger than the Giants market but that the market of Jets fans wanting positive or negative Jets content is larger than the market of Giants fans wanting negative Jets content. What I'm trying to say in all of this is that there's no amount of quiet time that is going to shut down the negative content on the Jets. It can get toned down some by a lack of readily available material but it's always going to be there to some extent. The only thing that will shut down the negative content is winning at a consistent pace. Even then bumps in the road will bring out the negative content producers again. If the Jets turned into a Patriots level team in terms of success it would have a huge impact though. The Giants would then be perceived more negatively if they could not match the pace and over time the market could easily shift away from them and they could become the targets of negative differentiation.
thus far the lack of media leaks is the best thing i have seen in this new offseason with this new leadership group. i cant explain how happy i am that its quiet. i think its safe to assume that pettine was in fact a major contributor to manish mehta as many had assumed. i also feel confident in assuming that idzik came in and said ok everybody shut the fuck up.. we dont need bravado or big mouths to win football games. i am extremely happy about that. its gotten to the point where i actually am starting to think a little bit positively about rex again.... and i have been very down on him the last year.
As far as I'm concerned I hope the Jets never make up w/ the local media. They have made the last year & a half or so MISERABLE to be a Jets fan. Writers like Serby & Myers constantly finding new ways to try to take a shot at the team..it's a joke. The whole circus/clown persona was so ironic b/c frankly I thought the excessive media coverage was the biggest culprit.Having to hear pathetic ESPNish sheep fans who can't sense media scrutiny constantly calling the team a "Circus" b/c they know no different is maddening.Same w/ the trendy mainstream Giant fan who is too insecure about his own team so has to hit the Jets when they are down When the jets are competitive again in 2 years I hope they don't change things at all. Everyone is an enemy. If they get a Raiders persona so be it. From a footb all perspective I hate everyone not in green.
certain coaches did not have any respect for Mike Tannenbaum. Tanny would run his mouth then some executive would say it to some coach and blah blah. That said, fuck the media and if this team ever becomes good again, I hope they give them the bird
I think at this point it should be perfectly clear that a HUUUGE part of the problem was Mike Pettine. What a Brutus.
What the last few years did was to make the Jets an easy target for what would have been a bad period for the Jets in the media in any case. The Giants won their second Super Bowl in 5 years at the exact point that the Jets predictions of a Super Bowl win failed to materialize. That's going to blow up all over the place no matter what else happens. Then you have the Tebow debacle on top of that, which dragged ESPN into the fray and things got really ugly. In case it's not clear to everybody at this point, Tim Tebow is an ESPN asset. He's not an asset by choice, it's not a formalized agreement or anything, but he sold for them in a big way in 2011. He gave them new markets to sell into with the Tebow fans who would not normally watch much televised sports coverage and yet were mesmerized by the coverage of Tebow's miracle run in '11. So when the Jets traded for Tebow they brought ESPN along in the bargain. When they devalued the asset they pissed off ESPN and things got very ugly from there.
i am very curious to see how idzic handles the pre draft presser if revis is still here then. the media is going to hammer away with revis questions and i want to see how he handles them. i am hoping he comes out right away and states "revis is under contract and right now we are focused on his rehab" and then refuses to acknowledge any questions on the subject. these guys need to be reminded that they need the jets more than the jets need them
We shall see now for sure over the next few week if we hear any rumblings with workouts starting, draft approaching and players being around the media much more then over the past few months.
The media covers train wrecks and fires. They don't cover the burnt out building or the rusting car on the side of the road.
THE MEDIA ARE FOOLS. Okay, having said that, I have to believe that Rex and Woody brought all of this negative attention on themselves. Rex may be able to coach, but like his father, he has some of that bad clown blood in him. Woody is, plain and simply, a tool. In this town, you are asking for trouble when you behave like that. It may work in some venues, but not here.
The last year and a half would have been wonderful for Jets fans if it wasn't for the media. I would have enjoyed the losses much more if they actually stopped covering the team when they suck.
I wouldn't like any loss at all, but you make a good point. If it wasn't for the media being a microscope, this wouldn't be too much of an issue. I hope Rex and Woody learned their lesson and know that the media is not their friend at all. Also, be glad that Tanny is gone. Under his era, the media coverage was unbearable. Now the Jets have Idzik and Tanny is now with the NFL Network. Hopefully the Idzik era will produce results and focus more on football
The media is the Jets friend. The Jets as has the rest of the NFL benefited greatly from the enormous amount of free publicity that the local and national media gives to their product. The Jets used the media when they tried to build a stadium and they used it to promote the team when PSL sales were crucial. Now that they are rebuilding the media is the enemy? The Jets leaked intentionally and now they are not leaking intentionally. The media is a tool of the NFL and the local teams it's not the enemy that most on this board make it out to be. They get it wrong or right sometimes but most of the time they are inside tools of NFL management.
the jets have NOBODY to blame but themselves for the media catastrophe that has occured over the past 4 years. rex has been a fucking idiotic moron with them. he was the brash douche and then turned into a bumbling fucking idiot who had no clue what was going on and couldnt form full thoughts. they did things simply for media attention, they BEGGED for media whether it was good or bad. THEN they leaked garbage out consistently and constantly. dont blame the media, blame the organization... from woody on down to the trainers they were the ones at fault.
