i was reading this interesting article about the top 8 QBs in the draft. basically, a guy from bleacherreport interviewed 5 QB coaches/gurus that have worked with every single QB on the list. he had them rank them and discuss the good and bad about them.

overall, i liked this article because it's all quotes with people who have worked with all these QBs constantly. it's not some sports opinion article which is why i find it so interesting

It's an interesting read. I think Smith, Barkley and Manuel all have a really good shot at going in the first 36 picks. I think Nassib has a pretty good shot at going top of the second also, maybe even late first if somebody trades up from the early second.

I keep seeing Manuel winding up in San Francisco. He's an excellent developmental QB to groom behind Kaepernick and they have a million draft picks including an extra early second.

your logic makes sense, but why would the 49ers draft ej manuel and try to groom him behind an extremely young QB that needs grooming himself? i know they have a lot of picks, but i still see them using the picks elsewhere

Ask yourself what the 49ers needs are and what the best way to bank value in this draft is. Taking a good looking QB prospect in the late first or early second is a great way to set up value down the road. And if Kaepernick gets hurt due to his wide open style of play? Well, that's the golden lining.

exactly, he can be crucial to them in the long run and when guys like Justin Smith start to decline and they need replace him with an impact player they have Manuel sitting there NFL ready

We showed with Sanchez that having no backup plan is a horrible plan. The skins took two QBs in the first four rounds last year and the experts killed them for it. During the season RG3 goes down and Cousins steps up and wins an important game for them. It's a lot smarter than in looks, because one bad hit on a QB can change your season.

A never will be talent like McCoy should not keep you from drafting anyone. The Seahawks drafted Wilson last year despite having signed Flynn to a big contract.

    Exactly.

i mean kirk cousins was drafted in the 4th round and its not like colt mccoy is bad. i seriously feel like he's one of the more underrated QBs in the league and just needs a shot. like ej manuel will need to be selected maybe in round 1 and the 49ers wont do that. they need help on their secondary, defensive tackle, and te depth

The 49ers have like 15 picks? They can fill every need they have in this draft and still bank 3 or 4 picks down the road. Taking a good QB prospect early on with one of their two picks early (31 + 33) would be a very savvy move on their part.

Nobody that they can add on those picks is going to make their team a lot better next year given their existing talent base. However a QB can help them next year if Kaepernick goes down and could be a ticket to a Super Bowl win in 2014 if he had to play.

I agree. Manuel would be a great fit for the 49ers. He would give them a cheap back-up for the next 5 years (4 years plus teams get a mandatory option on the 5th year) and he can fill in with the read option for kapernick. Manuel has lots of upside and can potentially save a lost season if Kapernick goes down. Not to mention the Niners can always trade him near the end of his contract if he does not flop and likely get decent value in return. The question is will Manuel be there when the 49ers draft at 31? It is likely someone trades up into the 20's to jump ahead and take him. It seems his stock is rising and it would not be a shock to see the Jets take him at 13 if they trade Revis.

Like Bradway said the Niners have a lot of draft picks. Manuel looks like a great fit for them.

I've been wondering if the Jets would trade down a bit from the 13 and see which QB falls to the late teens/early twenties.

I could see the Steelers or Colts moving up. Steelers for one of the LB's or DT's and Colts for a WR.
