Please provide me with the name of the person in the NYJ organization that is the source of your belief that the Jets are "trying to trade Revis." Hint: mike cimini is not a source.
If you want to make the case that the Jets are not planning to trade Revis and that this is all smoke then you need to make one of two related cases alongside that: 1. Revis is in on the gag. 2. The Jets are ultimately going to pay whatever they have to pay to retain him. In the absence of one of those two cases the argument falls apart because whatever else is true the relationship between the Jets and Revis has frayed a lot since the revelation that the Jets might trade him the day Idzik was introduced. If Revis is in on it then all the tension is pure theater and Schwartz, Feinsod, Woody and Idzik are all having a great big laugh on the media behind closed doors. If the Jets are going to pay whatever it takes then Woody and Idzik have decided to play this for all it is worth in terms of publicity, even if a fair amount of that publicity has been negative. They know that Revis won't say no to a monster payday just because the last few months have been rocky. Other than that the Jets have just decreased the the already small chance Revis will sign a reasonable deal with them.
This is not Tannenshit's Jets where everything was leaked. You won't here it from anybody in the organization until it is announced that he is gone. Can't wait to here what he has to say tomorrow assuming he isn't already in TB by then.
Please provide me with the source of your belief that the "relationship between the Jets and revis has frayed alot since the media began running unsubstantiated rumors that he might be traded. Its actually very easy to make the case that the Jets are not planning to trade Revis - nobody on the Jets has indicated that the Jets were planning on trading Revis. Supposedly the Bucs have made an offer. Supposedly the Jets have indicated what it might take for the Bucs to acquire Revis. Nobody has gone on record with any of that however - feel free to assume and believe what you like, but just b/c you read something on the internet, doesn't mean its true - and often it isn't.
When Revis is gone, will you stop acting like all of the fans who believe reputable sources besides you (a random guy on a message board) are idiots?
Where did i say believing unreliable sources makes somebody an idiot? Oh wait i know... I never said that. If you chose to believe what you read in the media - thats up to you, whether Revis stays or gos will you stop pretending that we all have to agree w/your faith in the media?
This exchange highlights a big advantage of keeping things in house. I do believe that the Jets are shopping Revis, but when you place this belief under a microscope it comes down to "must be fire when there's smoke". AbdSal's theory is far fetched, but not impossible. And so if trade doesn't happen, Jets can deny there was even an attempt. Plausible deniability. Keep shit in house and everyone can save face if things go sideways because there always will be someone from "Show me direct quote" Abdul and Barc's school of thoughts.
I'm not going through 99 pages of this, but you pretty much said that people were 'stupid' or not fans, for talking about trading Revis. I hardly believe everything in the media. Most of them are a bunch of Patriot sycophants. However, when certain fairly reliable source keep blaring the same thing over and over....well, where there's smoke, there's fire.
It's just all these rumors that people keep spreading, bringing up new players involved in the trade, which picks are involved, and yet NO ONE from either team has said a word about this supposed trade. Yet everyone seems to be treating the rumors like gospel.
We've heard enough chatter from the Bucs side to know that there have at least been discussions. You might as well have your head buried in the sand if you honestly think nothing is going on with Revis trade talks. Is the Bucs front office in on the grand charade too? Give me a break.
When the Brett Favre rumors were flying the jet organization denied any such thing,,,,,,they swore up and down that Chad Pennington was going to be the QB of the jets,,,,,,,right up to the time that they yanked Chad off a plane and gave him his walking papers. So is Revis staying ? Of course he is because the Jets would let everyone know if he was leaving !
To be honest, i would not be shocked if the Jets made him play it out. Just to draw a line in the sand. And if he pulls a phantom hammy, they will litigate
With the prospect of the 9th AND 13th overall pick plus TB picking up all of Revis' tab and probably one or two picks from next years draft I say deal Revis. Not that I want him to go by any means. But for his kind of money (TB was reportedly going to pay $15+ million yr) we could sign a few guys.
Regarding the idea that Sanchez could be packaged with Revis, if I were Revis negotiating a contract with another team, I would insist on a clause that they will not trade for Sanchez.
