They could basically look at it as an extra $8 million charge to get Revis for a little bit lower on the draft picks. Current rumors have the Bucs possibly offering a 1st, 3rd and 6th for Revis but the Jets aren't jumping at that, the Jets tell them they will do it if the Bucs also take Sanchez off their hands. Is Revis worth the picks and the $8 mil to the Bucs?
I don't understand the point in trading Sanchez this year. Yes we would save around 8 million this year, but all the free agents are basically gone for this year. And correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't his cap hit come off next year anyway? So what's the point? He is still a better option than Simms, mcelroy, and tebow. I would rather have him on the team. I will be the first one to burn you j/k I hope he is gone. I hope someone is dumb enough to take him out of our books. We don't need him.
Not entirely, Sanchez was progressing in his first 2 years, then it all went tits up and he never regained his confidence. the big questions are , has he gone as far as he can and will he ever get his confidence back? Yes and no IMO
Agree with "yes and no", but a bigger question is why would you want a player who looses his confidence as soon as there's even a hint controversy?
If Idkiz gets three picks and trades that bum Sanchez, let's just promote him to PRESIDENT. This is phenomenal news. I have been patient with Idzik on this trade and he looks like he is working it like a seasoned vet. Tampa knows that have to come off the 13th and they have basically caved there. They are also throwing in 2 other picks which is phenomenal. And we may get even more. And if they take Sanchez on top of it (which coincides with Schiano "not being on board" with Freeman) this would be unreal. Wow.
Exactly. I can't believe anyone is still believing in Sanchez' "potential." What more does he have to do to prove that he is not an NFL starting caliber QB?
Sanchez showed enough promise in his first two years that I am willing to sit through a rebuilding year with him and see what one more coordinator can do with him.
There are two parts to the issue though. The first is what Sanchez does elsewhere, which could be embarrassing to the Jets *if* the QB we replace him with is not doing similar or better. The second is what Sanchez would have done with the Jets if we kept him. The way I see it the odds on Sanchez being much more than a misfiring inconsistent QB with occasional flashes of good play are low. That's because we have a 62 game sample now that say that's what he is. The record says that Sanchez is a misfiring inconsistent QB with occasional flashes of good play. So keeping Sanchez doesn't present much of an upside for the Jets. Drew Brees 3rd and 4th seasons were very good. He had already established star potential when he left the Chargers for the Saints. Sanchez has established nothing at this point. What Sanchez could do for another team shouldn't be a factor in the Jets decisions at all. If he goes somewhere else and turns into a star QB, well those are the breaks. Among other things the entire situation he is in will have changed if that occurs. The context in which he becomes a star is completely inaccessible to the Jets no matter what they do because it is wholly somewhere else. So the only important thing in the issue is what the Jets do next at QB. They have to find a star caliber QB to build the offense around. If they do that then the only way they wind up feeling bad about the situation is if Sanchez turns into Drew Brees, who as mentioned above was a much better QB in year 3 or 4 than Sanchez was. The Jets need to find a franchise QB. Based on the 4 year audition that Mark Sanchez has had he's not the guy. Time to move on and find the guy.
And also his lack of confidence. Sanchez has the worst sideline composure for a Jets QB since Richard Todd.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/04/13/sanchez-apparently-wont-be-heading-to-tampa/ In summary: Jets: "Ok fine, you can have Revis for a 1st, 3rd, 6th and if you take Mark Sanchez off our hands Bucs: *staff looks at each other* "hahahahahahahahahahahaahah... (gasp)...hahahahahahahahaha....nah.
And what he can do with more than 3 Chaz Schillians on the team to throw to. I think Mark makes a big Jump this year, just a hunch.
Man, if they trade Sanchez & Revis, they better be looking to bring in Freeman! Sanchez + Revis for a Freeman + a 1st and another late pick somewhere. I would be happy with that. Then we can still draft an early pass rusher and linesman, or trade one of them down for more picks.
The Jets have been really good at taking other team's problems off of their hands. Acquiring Freeman would be doing that again. Even getting rid of Sanchez in the bargain wouldn't make it a good idea.
