Hell no, the Jets would be crazy to let him speak to them first. Even when SF was interested it was written that they were willing on taking a chance on him walking away after the year. Just too much chance of collusion. They have the money and they know what it will take. They can make their deal after a trade and I doubt there is anybody anywhere that would pay him what they are willing to spend. I'm pretty sure there would be more than one team interested too if they could try to make a deal up front.
There's not much to check out except to see if the surgery was somehow botched. It's not like ANYBODY thinks he is ready to play now, run now or do anything else now that would show any sign of what he will be like in 5 months.
There is no chance the Bucs would agree to trade for Revis unless they have an opportunity to discuss a contract and AT LEAST set up the parameters for a future deal
If you really think that then you also think that there isn't another team anywhere who would want the "best defensive player in the NFL". I'm guessing there is if they had the chance to sit down with him and discuss a new contract and predicate a trade on the outcome of that discussion. The Jets would be insane to give anybody that..especially with Revis.
This is how trades work in professional sports when a players contract is going to expire. The two teams agree to the framework of the trade (what picks/players are involved). The other team (the Bucs) then get permission to speak with the player who has an expiring contract's (Revis) agents. The other team and the agents then discuss a contract (typically have a 72-hour window or something along those lines) to try and come to terms. The two teams (the Jets and the Bucs) then finalize the trade. I'm not sure why you think this isn't how trades generally work. Many teams would want Revis, which is why the Bucs wouldn't take him if they aren't guaranteed he sticks around past this season
Not this time...if they were going to allow that they would be talking about more than 1 first and a couple of throw ins. Again, if the Jets would allow teams to cut a deal with him before the trade went down there would probably be 20 teams beating down their door. There would also be no talk about a trade being done while TB was on the clock.
they aren't allowing teams to cut a deal before a trade goes down. the trade is already agreed upon between the two teams, with the only contingency being that the other team can reach an agreement with Revis as the last step. the Jets have absolutely nothing to lose in that situation.
If this was true, and it's obvious to everyone that it's not, every member of the Jets front office should be fired for not letting teams cut a deal with Revis before hand. If that would increase the demand and price, why on earth wouldn't it be happening?
If I were Idzic I'd demand a $5M non-refundable down payment from the bucs to the jets just for the pleasure of speaking to Revis.
When the Jets are presented with a deal they'd make for Revis they're going to give the presenter plenty of access to him to make the deal happen. They're going to wait until the Jets doctors have checked him out first before they do anything. There's no point in making a trade agreement that is going to get blown up by a failed physical after Revis has effectively negotiated the free agent deal the suitor will give him in 2014. Thinking about it some more I think the Jets should probably forbid contract talks between Revis and the suitor until Revis has passed their physical or whatever process they want to use in place of that before the deal is finalized.
If the Jets let Revis negotiate with a team then he can just say to that team, I wont negotiate a deal and I'm going to test the market then the team wont make the trade since they have too much to lose in the process So the only way a deal gets done is if we send Revis to a team he wants to go to and sign long term with and they are willing to give us what we want and Revis what he wants If Tampa's GM trades for Revis and then he bolts in free agency he can kiss his ass goodbye Thats why I think Idzik is trolling the fuck out of the media and will sign Revis long term
It's the 3 year Revis Itch. 2007, 2010, 2013. That sick feeling in the pit of your stomach has been there before. Some poor fan group will go through it again in 2016. I hope it's not us.
I pray man, I hope he stays in green After watching that video on his progress I think he just wants to play the game and knows he wont get too many chances to live his dream and that he'll just sign a deal good for him and great for the team and stick with us
I understand the first part (he wants to play) but I don't know how a video of him rehabbing his knee led you to believe he'll sign a reasonable deal for the best CB in the game.
