If the Jets had the best QB in the NFL and he was leaving at the end of the year and wouldn't re-sign with Jets for less than $30M a year (1.5x the next highest QB salary) they'd probably be looking to trade him too, although at least the QB might actually help them win a Super Bowl next year. The situation with Revis isn't just about his skills. If that was all that was at issue the Jets would do whatever they had to do to keep him. The situation is also about a bunch of other stuff that has gotten out of hand over the years and is now basically beyond repair. Can't put the genie back in the bottle after you've convinced a player that he is bigger than the team.
Have to believe that this gets done before he has to report on Monday and the total zoo atmosphere begins..either that or he doesn't get traded at all. I am guessing it gets done.
I disagree. I think he goes to the workouts for sure and everyone sees how far along he is in his rehab before a trade goes down. I think if a trade goes down it happens a week before the draft. Part of me is still holding out hope that one of two things happen: 1) Another team comes in and offers an unbelievable package that we can't refuse and trade Revis to them instead 2) Considering the CB market, the questions around the injury, etc. Revis signs long term with the intention of retiring a Jet for a reasonable cap hit But, yeah, odds are neither of those things happen. If not then the more Idzik can squeeze out of the Bucs the better.
ive been impressed with the front office so far. all solid signings at low cost (havent heard the dawan deal yet but im hopeful) and a lot of attention being paid to the line. i think the team will be alright next season, better than last season for sure. that being said, at this point, i wouldnt put it past the front office to be able to lock revis up long term. there are a couple of things being done in this situation, and one of them is increasing the jets leverage over revis. idzik seemingly has everybodies balls in a vice right now and i think he knows it. but either one of two things will come from thsi situation, revis retires a jet, or the jets get more than anyone had initially hoped. part of me thinks he will remain a jet fwiw. i just cant see idzik coming in and trading away the best player on a team that the defense is designed around. i think idzik is very shrewd, and i think he is using the trade as a means to show revis he is not in control of the situation. it is funny watching the bucs emotional rollercoaster surrounding the trade. from interested, to willing to pay revis, to fed up, to upping offer. its funny
You don't know the NY press then. There will probably be close to as many there on Monday as there were for Tebow and all goading him into saying negative things about the Jets. A first year GM probably doesn't need that.
Dawan Landry is officially a Jet. It is all over NFL Network. He signed a deal yesterday but the details of the deal are not known yet
I'm hoping this thing gets done before the 15th. I'm tired of all the media attention. Not only is next week the start of off season work outs but the Jets will have their pre-draft press conference next week. I'd like to focus on the drafr and moving this team forward.
The Bucs could make a deal happen by giving the Jets a take-it or leave-it offer that was actually reasonable. They've given up leverage at every turn by low-balling the Jets, making it easy for the Jets to say no. If I were the Bucs and I really wanted Revis I'd offer the 13, the 43 or next year's 1st, and the 112 and tell the Jets the offer was on the table for 24 hours and after that we were not going to be a suitor for Revis moving forward.
... if i were jets i'd take 2013 & 2014 first rounders ... if Tampa GM holds true to a take it or leave it offer & the jets don't comply he likely will be fired at the end of 2013 with no Revis though ... so can't see that actually happening ljr
There's a good argument for getting it done with enough time before the draft for the Revis story to begin to fade into the background. Since it's Revis and the Jets the story will never fade completely until the team has real success on the field. It would still be better to start changing the story enough in front of the draft that they are two separate stories. That said, if you don't have a decent offer you can't trade Revis. We could be having the story line with us in all it's blazing glory well into August. That's one of the realities in play.
It kind of makes sense to me for the Bucks to wait till voluntary work outs to see Revis condition before the decision is made. It's in everyones best interest (Revis, Jets, Interested Teams) for Revis to be there, and to get a cursory look at Revis health status and conditioning before they move forward with the deal. Revis I'm sure wants to show he is on his way to full recovery, and that will set the bar for negotiations and reduce speculations.
What LAJets said...^ That's really the bottom line. Main argument is if Revis can show he has recovered from a serious injury. If this is shown to be positive, you can bet the offers/negotiations will be more urgent and dramatic.
The Bengals just released Jason Allen have an extra pick in the 2nd round and have a lot of cap space. I wonder if they could be a potential sleeper team, or at least a threat to scare TB?
