Good signing! Now, if we can draft a good outside linebacker, and if Wilkerson and Couples continue to progress, our defense could be a force next season.
And what hasn't been mentioned enough is that, once again, it's a signing where we heard Dawan met with the Jets but no deal was made. Then silence. And some more silence. And bam - he's signed. The cum bucket Cimini and the likes must be in agony right now, at how clueless and non-updated they are with what's going on at the Jets HQ. Just love it.
nice pick up - also good for those that bought a Landry shirt last year. I still expect us to draft a safety - its about as deep and god a class of safeties as there has been according to reports.
Kenny Vaccaro Matt Elam Jonathan Cyprien Eric Reid D.J. Swearinger Phillip Thomas Bacarri Rambo There's a bunch of good options this draft
I'd love me some Elam, but other than that - I must say I haven't been too flooded with S prodigy claims.
Josh Bush and Antonio Allen both played a little in 2012 and didn't seem to be lost out there. Their roles could and probably should expand in 2013. I'd be fine with them competing for the other Safety job. Edit: I just read in an article DT doesn't think either will or should take on a starting role so that changes my take completely. Lol
This puts us in a great position to spend a 3rd (or even a 2nd if Revis deal goes through and yields a 2013 1st and 3rd/4th) on a ballhawking FS in the draft. If that goes down we should be able to yield at least one decent starting SS out of Landry/Allen and one decent FS from Bush/Draft pick. If that happens we'll have 2 good stop gaps at minimum with good depth and possibility for growth from the 3 young players.
You KNOW if Rex is pounding the table for one position in this upcoming draft it is safety. He loves DBs & right now that position is a huge question mark. Kenny Vaccaro would fit nicely but #9 is alittle too early. He'd be an option if the jets trade down or if they end up w/ #13. That said, there are plenty of 2nd or 3rd round options as well.
never too early for a player you think can come in and make things happen Bruce Irvin was considered a reach, I bet they dont feel that way now
Maybe so. That said, secondary was a strength for a team of many weaknesses last season.Even without Revis. What kind of message does a safety w/ the # 1 pick send? I do like Vaccaro. He's a ball hawk who knows how to lay the lumber. Pro bowl calibur talent for sure. You can pretty much guarantee Rex likes him too.
The secondary wasnt necessarily a strength without Revis, teams ran a lot more we were very vanilla on D without God....I mean Revis
i mean, to be fair, he is coming from a philly defense that turned a guy people were comparing to revis into a running joke... could be an issue with the system/coaching
Seconded. Idzik has been the anti Tanny and is exactly what The Jets needed. I especially love how tight lipped the team has been. The media is scrapping the bottom of the barrel for stories. And all leaks in the Revis situation are coming from Tampa. This is a solid stop gap safety and maybe a little more. An older player that knows the system could be a great teacher if we go after young safeties in the draft.
