you must be thinking about someone else again, analysts were literally gushing over his pro day and only had great things to do
So wrong on so many levels its not funny. Star would be a steal at nine and give us an extremely formidable D line for a 34 team. He's also a rare player that can rush from the NT position ala Kris Jenkins. A front three of Wilk star and Q would make Rex's defense scary as hell.
Jets can't pass on Lotuleilei. He is an impact player at a rare spot..right over the football.Jets get star they can switch to the 46 for good & the trio of Wilk/Coples/Star would be frightening for offenses. jets can then take the Giants approach in the LB corps by going cheap. Under this scenario a trio of Davis/Harris/Mcintyre might not be horrible.
Kris Jenkins?!?! He sure produced in GREEN & WHITE. Bad comparison on so many levels. One of the best interior lineman of all time is Warren Sapp. The JETS for a 3-4 team just do not get production from their OLB's, and who knows if Rex will be the coach after this season or if the JETS will still be running a 3-4 defense. As I stated before, the JETS and REX RYAN need IMPACT edge players on DEFENSE and OFFENSE, Star is not a priority. If the JETS need to consider someone to play in the trenches, they need to look at a OG like Warmack. But this DRAFT will more than likely be dictated by our new GM Idzik.
You assuming that Star would not have a place on a 43 front? Do you not know what a force he is? Tis is arguably the best player in this draft period. If by some reason he was there at nine you sprint to the podium. The only edge players you could argue have the upside to rival his are Jordan and Ansah, but they both are extremely raw. There is not a skill player on offense that comes close to him in this draft. Placing need far over talent in a draft is a very bad idea.
If Star is available at 9 and Jordan has been selected already I'd fly to New York, sprint to the podium and make the selection for the Jets. Star, Wilkerson, Coples and Ellis would be a beast mode D line which huge options
I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this one. But agreed. Star is a hell of a player. But even in a 46, I'm not a huge fan. We have Coples at one DT spot, and I think Ellis could play a NT/DT in a hybrid type of 46 defense. I don't like putting need over BPA, but if someone of a comparable talent is up there like Jordan or Jones, I go with the OLB. In addition, if Star is there, we could probably fetch a pretty penny by trading back. I'd take that route.
Thing with Ellis, he's so far been that player with huge potential that has yet to consistently show it. Jets have failed many times on 3rd and short in 2013 because they lacked the Kris Jenkins type of player to plug up the middle. Put a player like Star in there with Wilk and Coples and just sit back. It would be a fun team to watch. They can address the pass rusher issue in the 2nd round. BTW, if somehow Shariiff Floyd makes it to #9, Jets should send Carl Lewis to the podium with the pick. This guy is also a beast
I love Star at 9 also. This is a link to Russ Lande at Pro Football Post and his breakdown of Star and Floyd. http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Pick-your-Poison-Sharrif-Floyd-vs-Star-Lotulelei.html
