Star was recently cleared for his heart condition and should be placed back in the top ten. If he drops to us he is by far the BPA and should be considered our for our pick. Perhaps this heart fiasco was a blessing in disguise and allows one of the if not the most talented players to drop to the Jets. Wilkerson Star and Coples create the best and youngest front three in the league by a long shot and really open things up for our line backers. Love his ability to split the double team and his constant pressure in opponents backfield. What ever you do dont forget about Star!
That's the base D but the Jets have played more 4-3 in recent years and I think that's the direction we're moving in (not re-signing DeVito, and IMO coples is better suited for 4-3)
You know, honestly, I kind of forgot about him. Soon as I heard the heart stuff a wall went up and I wanted no part of him. Kind of did the same with Jones with his back issues but I've softened on that. Getting Star would be a huge boost for us as well. Honestly I think we're going to be positioned to get someone really good at the 9th spot. I hope we don't blow it and pick Geno Smith.
From the scouting reports Ive read he has the size and strength to play all over the 3-4 defensive front much like Haloti Ngata and he can play in the 4-3. Extremely versitile athlete and is exactly what Rex likes in his D-line players.
He ha she a iLife to play the nose, but may be better suited to a more impactful position. He is a very versatile play that can do anything you want along a 34 or 43 front. If health I think he is the best player in the draft.
Originally, I didn't think Star was an option I now believe that he warrants serious consideration. I don't see him as a NT but I see a 4-3 look with Mo Wilk and Star at DT, Coples at DLE and Garrett Mac at RDE. Macyntire was there best outside rusher. I like the Star pick much better than Jones, Mingo, or Ansah. My preference is Austin, Jordan and Star
You say it better... I?m not saying he can't play nose... just that he's a natural as a 43DT from what I read.
Not against the pick, but can anybody really see the Jets selecting DLine three years in a row? Really hoping for the elite pass rusher with the track record, Jones all day (but wouldn't be upset with Jordan)! I just know JJones was one of the three best college defensive players last year and the year before.
I have been hyping Star since mid-way thru the college season. I watched him destroy USC, I mean this kid can ball out. If he is there at the 9 hamds down he is by far the BPA. We might be able to get a Mingo or Moore in the second even. Watch Star's game tape and he isthe so similar to Ngata that its scary. Good God this kid would make the D dominate right up the middle.
As I have stated in a previous topic, having a D-line of Star/Coples/Wilkerson or even Floyd/Coples/Wilkerson, will make for something opposing teams will have to game plan for. Imagine that line up plus Revis still wearing a green jersey. My oh my...scary... I think they can address the pass rushing issue in rd 2.
The last thing I thought I wanted was a defensive tackle. But he would probably be the best player available, and a big-time defensive tackle is always important. Look at Baltimore, look at the Giants. Being able to generate pressure without blitzing and controlling the line of scrimmage is vital, especially in the playoffs. It might not be quite as important as it was 10 years ago, but we saw how the defense fared with Pouha dropping from a very good player to a mediocre player. Star is the BPA over any OLB in this draft other than Jordan. If he's there, I think I'd take him over any OG, WR, S or QB. If Rex thinks Ansah can stand up, I'd love Ansah. I think Ansah will be a star if he's coached right.
I wouldn't take Ansah over Star Lotulelei though. If Ansah was a 3 year player maybe but he's not. Jets cannot whiff on the 9. There's no room for that.
I think I will forget about him...his combine numbers were not spectacular and he is not an immediate need like a DE/OLB or WR. Bjoern Werner, Jarvis Jones, or Tavon Austin would be great picks at #9 for the JETS. I know Rex personally worked out Margus Hunt like he did Coples last year but Hunt will be drafted late first/or early second round and would be a nice second round pick for the JETS if he is still there.
Unless I am mistaken Star didn't work out at the combine due to his heart. And for the record Star would be a dominate force in a Rex Ryan D.

If we played a 4-3 and had equal need at both spots, I'd flip a coin between Star and Ansah. In our situation, Star makes more sense unless you think Ansah can play OLB. I'm sure he could in some situations, but I don't really want him in space, and it's not the best use of his ability. Wilkerson, Coples and Lotulelei gives our defense a chance to be very good for a while, particularly with Cromartie in the secondary. That's 3 guys that could draw double teams against 5 linemen. That would cause pressure, and that's what we need.
PRO DAY, COMBINE, WHATEVER. His numbers were okay but he lacked explosion in his drills outside from his 38 bench reps. Scouts were hyping him up but he doesn't measure out or compare anywhere close to a DOMINANT FORCE like Haloti Ngata who is 6'4 340 while Star is 6'3 311. The JETS and REX RYAN need IMPACT edge players on DEFENSE and OFFENSE, Star is not a priority. If the JETS need to consider someone to play in the trenches, they need to look at a OG like Warmack.
