In case anybody is interested Manny Ramirez hit his 1st homerun with the EDA Rhino's in Taiwan. It's a bizarre league and I've been to a few of their games. The play by play in video is priceless Ironically Manny's teammate with EDA is former Met MI Chin Lung Hu
Strasburg, Cain, Price, and Dickey all got hit hard yesterday. Dickey allowed five runs in the first inning. That equals the amount of first inning runs he gave up all of last season.
Two strange stories related to the Cubs have surfaced. First, Cuban defector Jorge Soler (who signed a $30 million deal with the Cubs last year) charged the opposing team's dugout with a bat in his hands in a minor league game after getting tangled up at second base as part of a double play. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/e...ejected-for-charging-opposing-dugout-with-bat Much more bizarre, the Cubs owner Tom Ricketts received a package in the mail with a goat's head inside(!). I don't know if this refers to The Godfather, the billy goat curse or what, but some people are just plain crazy. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/e...ketts-receives-package-with-goats-head-inside
LA-area teams... First Jered Weaver breaks his elbow falling, trying to avoid a line drive. Then last night, Greinke suffers a fractured collarbone. He hit Quentin with a pitch (Quentin constantly among the leaders in HBP when he plays, and gets hit more frequently than Craig Biggio did) and Quentin charged the mound and ran Greinke over.
From what I've seen this is a perfect example of the principle of suspending someone for as long as the other guy can't play. The injury is completely Quentin's fault, and is because of a completely unjusified action, so he shouldn't play until Greinke comes back.
Greinke out for 8+ weeks, Quentin suspended for 8 games. Absolutely gutless move by major league baseball.
Saw it on MLB TV. Pretty bizarre play - he went into second on an attempted steal and went into the slide way too late. His ankle bent in a very nasty way - not a Kevin Ware situation, but it looked pretty bad.
Reyes sucks, he so injury prone and streaky. Every year the talking heads praise him to the moon and every year he goes down and under performs. Wouldn't wish injury on anyone but as a Mets fan I'm glad he's far away from NY.
No way. He didn't do anything more than anyone else when charging the mound. As it is he got too many games. Most suspensions for charging the mound are around 5 games. Just because it was Skeletor on the mound and he decided to lower his shoulder and got hurt doesn't mean Quentin deserves a longer suspension. It's not like Greinke is a saint here either. He was running his mouth the whole time. Both of them should get the standard suspensions for this type of situation.
Red Sox with an unusual 6:30 start time today and tomorrow. I was guessing they're realizing their games finish late? I searched on the Internet and came up with: http://blogs.providencejournal.com/...-red-sox-athletics-and-early-evaluations.html
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=30193 Not sure I understand what the advantage is of keeping him on the DL an extra day if no game was being played.
Roy Halladay is having shoulder surgery and is probably out of the season. Naturally he is saying that this "could turn the clock back 2 or 3 years for [him]," but I think it's much more likely that he is completely done. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/e...e-surgery-to-clean-up-bone-spurs-rotator-cuff
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/it-s-a...rs--latest-way-to-gain-an-edge-173953962.html The secret trick that led to accusations of Boston Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz throwing a spitball has an ancillary benefit: It prevents skin cancer, too. Two veteran pitchers and one source close to the Red Sox told Yahoo! Sports that about 90 percent of major league pitchers use some form of spray-on sunscreen – almost always BullFrog brand – that when combined with powdered rosin gives them a far superior grip on the ball. Boston pitcher Clay Buchholz's move to his left forearm is sometimes part of his pre-pitch ritual."Sunscreen and rosin could be used as foundation for houses," one American League pitcher said. "Produces a tack, glue-like substance that engineers would be jealous of." During Buchholz's May 1 start against Toronto, Blue Jays color commentator Dirk Hayhurst said on Twitter the right-hander was "loading the ball" with "slick'em painted up his left forearm." When shown video of Buchholz, Jack Morris, also a commentator for Sportsnet, said, "He's throwing a spitter." The umpires did not check. Blue Jays players said nothing. Buchholz, who threw seven shutout innings that lowered his ERA to 1.01, denied doctoring the ball in any way.
