Sal Paolantonio was just on Sirius radio and discussed who he believe are the top 5 immediate impact players. He's one of the sportscasters i respect and believe most of you do as well. He made a specific point that he'd have put Dion Jordan in at 5 if he wasn't coming back from an injury, thus may not be immediately 100% to start training camp.

    1. Eric Fisher
    2. Chance Warmack
    3. Sharrif Floyd
    4. Tavon Austin
    5. Luke Joeckel

He made a point of emphasis that these are his top 5 to immediately contribute with the greatest impact ( as opposed to simply stating they are who he thinks will be the 5 best players )

Just from the thread title I had guessed Fisher, Joeckel, Warmack, and Austin. Mostly because highly drafted OL usually start and make an impact. Austin because of his speed and quickness plus his return abilities. The Floyd pick kind of surprised me. I would have guessed Lane Johnson for the same reasons as the others. I hope Lane Johnson falls to #9....he may be our best option to trade back.

I think Lane Johnson goes 5 or 7. He goes 5 if both Joeckel and Fisher go in the top 4.

I f Dion Jordon, Jarvis Jones are gone and Shariff Floyd happens to be there at #9, Jets should snatch this guy up. What nasty D-line they would have.

The guy I keep looking at and wondering about is Star Lotulelei. That's some Haloti Ngata action going on there.

I'm really coming around to taking him at 9. Don't trust a single one of these OLBs besides Jordan.

Count me in. Other than Jordan, I didn't like too much of other OLB prospects at #9. If Star is there, why the hell not.

They say star has a heart condition. and it will cause his stock to drop. i just wonder if its worth going after if thats the case. because Floyd is an amazing player to and is healthy. Star can be better but would we ever see that production out of him with his problems.

Yes,if Jordans gone. and we arent going Offense first round by all means pick one of these guys up.

What would we do with our base package with star? Have him play NT and Ellis as a rotational player? 4-3 with Star and Ellis inside? or 46 defense with Star-Ellis-Wilk?

Kenrick Ellis hasn't proven a lot yet. In fact he's a weak link going into next season due to injuries and some inconsistent play. I wouldn't mind replacing him with somebody who looks like he's going to be a very good 3 down player.

The downside is all the money that will be on the line in a few years. Mo Wilk gets his payday next year. Coples in 2015. Lotulelei in 2016 would be about $30M on the cap in the front 3 or 4.

^If they are the best in the league, it may be worth it. I think OLB is a bigger need than NT, though... Star is a safer option IMO, but if an elite pass rusher has a much higher impact on the game.

Shariff Floyd is being compared to Warren Sapp and we all know how we botched that draft. I wouldnt mind selecting him though its not an immediate need. I think its kind of clear we really need to address the OLine with Warmack. I know for a fact how sick and tired we were last year that we couldn't move the ball after taking over on the opponents side of the field. Some make the case tha we will have 3 pro bowlers on the line .... Well when we had Damien Woody, Faneca, Manigold, Dbrick that was basically 4 pro bowlers on the line. I think we could adopt that Mike Shannahan approach and we could insert any no name running back and they will get 1000 yards but it all starts up front.

Its not the Sexy Pick but it will go a long way....
