I am starting to favor keeping Revis if we can at 8, 9 or 9.5 avg a season. We also need to keep that number consistant so he dosent get all his $ up front and then hold out. Dealing with him is a fucking head-ach but even he can see the market just isnt there after the CBA.
8M? 9M? What fantasy world is this thread living in? If Revis signs a deal with a penny less than 11M annual value (I think it'll be 12-13) I'll eat a bowl of paper clips.
Proof or it didn't happen. Is it? I have never seen any quote from Revis or his agent about what he is looking for. Just speculation.
it isn't even speculation. it is just the manifestation of fan disappointment that things are not going their way, so he has completely made up a scenario that could sound plausible just so he can have additional reasons to dislike Revis and validate wanting him traded.
its becoming quite frustrating to read things pulled straight out of people's asses as well. including the media the draft is coming up? lets write an article about how the draft is coming up and that make us think the jets might decide to trade a player they keep saying they arent actively shopping. that'll get the fans nice and riled up! :breakdance:
Game it out Soss. Youre living in Yesterdays world. Right now Revis has two choices. Lets review the facts at hand. Hes 28. Hes coming off a major injury. Hes a known headache. He has to play this year at 6 Mil. So, at the end of the day, with no buyers, Revis has two choices...play out his contract risking injury and leaving roughly 40 mil on the table...or take the crumbs from Idziks hand. And..even if he plays out his deal without injury..he is approaching 30. And if he gets hurt...hes totally fucked. No turn of the cards favor Revis, at this juncture. Idzik, is sitting in his office licking his own balls, thinking..Tanny extended Sanchez, im getting Revis to heel.
And..what was the largest CB signing under the new CBA..? No GM is devoting 10 % of the cap to Revis, if he wants to remain a GM
Three years ago when CB money was at an all time high, Revis accepted a 4yr 46M contract, esentially 11.5M per season (1). The current trend puts his value probably around the 8-9M range, but the problem rests with the baby machine on the other side of the field. Since he is making 9.5M, which is probably a little high but after last season (and if he keeps it up) not by much (2). So 10M is where I'm guessing that puts us. 1. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/4155/darrelle-revis 2. http://www.nyjetscap.com/salary.html edit: Cromart's contract works out to 8M per season, but this is Revis we're talking about. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3671/antonio-cromartie
Think of how cool this Is going to be. One year me going Mike Tyson on a Grill, this year you eating a bowl of Paper Clips..... jets tailgate BAYYYYYBEEE!
however often i see that kind of rant, the one you are referring to, I can't get over the existence of the kind of fan I would call the Front Office Homer. It's one thing to be a homer fan, but the kind of fan who always takes the side of the front office, who believes any issues or problems are always and fully the fault of the player(s), is a particular breed of fan. In a situation like this, that kind of fan acts just as you have described. It is ludicrous.
The Jets do have a choice in the matter. He is under contract for 6M this year. If they are offered no better than a second round coice at this point, they could just keep him, with the possibility of signing him later. Worst case, he leaves next year, and the Jets get a 3rd round pick in 2015.
...and get hit with a cap hit of 9M, for a player no longer on the team. I think Idzik rather either trade him or make sure to extend him. I'd be fine with either.
Revis has not done ONE THING to prove he has any loyalty to the Jets organization or the fans. He is all about the Benjamins, and he can get another sucker to pay him because Mike Tannenbaum is gone. Trade Revis now.
Is that accurate? I don't pay attention to contracts, so I have no idea. But that is an odd provision that if the player opts out of his contract the team takes a cap hit.
If Darrelle Revis gets the "All-Time Great CB" contract next time around he's probably looking at $12-13M a year. The top corners right now are making $10M a year or so. He's not going to wind up making $8-9M if his play level stays high. That's a pipe dream. He's going to make about 15-20% above what the best corners are making if the market is there in 2014 and he'll make what the best corners are making if the market is not there. My guess is the market will not be there. I think the pay scales are getting realigned at this point and CB is one of the positions that is getting down-scaled. The Aso/Revis madness did bump CB salaries quite a bit from 2007 to 2011 but that madness has passed, largely because the teams participating in it weren't all that good while paying CB's like QB's. If Revis wants a huge record-setting contract he's going to need to get it this year, probably via trade.
It's appearently a detail in his contract that causes this, and it's verified. If anything, I'm surprised how little it is talked about, with all the debate about possible Revis scenarios. One could have some fun in the FA with 9M...
The Jets paid Revis an $18M option bonus in 2011. So far $9M has come off the cap in 2011, 2012 and 2013. There is $9M still outstanding on the cap. It has to hit sometime and as soon as Revis contractual ties to the Jets are ended, either by trade or him leaving via free agency that $9M comes due on the cap. His salary for 2013 is $6M. So if he is traded the Jets will loosen up that $6M but take the $9M hit for a total cap loss of $3M at the moment of the trade.
