Austin was great in college no doubt and if we got him at 9 I wouldn't throw the tc against the wall but at 9 we need a sure thing...and some guy can look perfect and just never amount to anything in the NFL. The college game is more spread out than the NFL for one and two he may not be able to take the hits that you take in the NFL. I think if a warmack cooper or a tackle is there its a smarter and safer move to build this team around...or and OLB
Oh, you spoke with him? Ah, alright, thanks for letting us know what "John" is exactly thinking. And btw, Tavon Austin is 10 times the football player DeSean Jackson is. Its an insult to him IMO. (also, Austin is only 10 pounds lighter than Harvin.)
Austin is about as sure of a things as there is in the draft. He's a hell of a lot "safer" than any of the OLB's, with probably the same upside.
I view Austin as Dexter McCluster with more deep speed, and believe he will be more of a gadget play and special teams ace than a 1000 yard WR. I'd rather see us take Denard Robinson late if we want that skill set. This draft has some serious depth at WR and there will be good players in the 2nd-4th rounds. Personally, I really like Robert Woods from USC and believe his skill set is being really overlooked. There could be many others like Hunter, Hopkins, Patton, and Rogers available too.

I have the confidence in Rex to put a good defense on the field with whoever he has. I know there would be some holes on Defense put I wouldnt mind drafting a safety in the fourth to go along with Bush and allen. Also I would like to sign Landry in free agency, we still have some money left over. Revis trade leaves us thin at CB but I think if we can grab johnson in the 7th he can compete with trufant, berry, lankster. I think it would be cool to overhaul our offense in one draft and this isnt so far fetched and might be doable Thoughts?
With Rex's comment following the season It might make sense that we draft a player like Tavon Austin. Austin is one of the most explosive players to ever come out and would be the most explosive player we have ever had
Tavon Austin is a mix of Welker and Darren Sproles. I view Austin more as a RB than I do a WR however he can be used in both positions. Austin racked up 572 all purpose yards against Oklahoma last year primarily lining up as a running back. It's obvious that some people here never followed him in college because some are talking about him as a small WR. He's much more than a wideout. He can be lined up in the slot, in the I, out wide not to mention his value as a KR and PR along side McKnight. The guy brings so much to the table and he's exactly what this team needs...an explosive playmaker on offense. He's a threat to take it the distance on every play.

He can play some outside, play some inside. Kerley is a nice player but nothing compared to what Tavon can be.
He's definitely got the scatback thing going. A big part of the NFL game right now, and the thing the Pats do better than anybody, is to create mismatches on the field and exploit them. Picture a Jets offense that has Tavon Austin or Mike Goodson alternately lining up in the backfield and the slot. Zach Ertz or Travis Kelce are splitting time between TE2 and H-back. Jeff Cumberland is at TE. Santonio Holmes/Jeremy Kerley are flanker. Stephen Hill is SE. That's a lot of potential mismatches the Jets can create depending on how they line up and the defense has no idea what set the Jets are going to be in until just before the snap since the HB and H-back can both start in the backfield and wind up in a full spread before the snap.
