I understand, but it is only in Brad's fantasy world that there is any suggestion that Woody tried to sign Revis before this. We frankly would likely have heard that by now if it were true.
with a flat cap next year... I don't see anyone ponying up the kind of money he wants. he's a corner. he doesn't run, catch or throw the football. If he has a mediocre year - he will be lucky to get half of what he wants next year. Jets better take whatever they can for him and send him on his way.
With Grimes off the table now you have to think that helps the Jets in any trade leverage. If we're lucky other teams might get in the mix and drive up the price.
right now all I hope is either he signs a reasonable long term deal or gets traded - worst case is he goes into this season with us and winds up a fa next year.
Well, someone needs to be realistic. And I'm excited to see what our defense will do when we draft a good pass rushing OLB, combined with Revis and Cro (If he plays like he did last year). Top 5 defense, here we come! Too bad we'll have a bottom 5 offense.
If we get Geno at 9 and Tavon Austin at 13, suddenly that's an offense with weapons. Add a running back in rounds 2-5 and that could be a foundation for a future-great offense. No guarantee that they'll all thrive, but no guarantee that any defensive player will either.
Seeing as Geno Smith isn't any good, I highly doubt that. Geno Smith looked great last year against scrub teams. Too bad it's the NFL and all 32 teams are better than that.
For anyone for keeping Revis (and let me preface by saying he is my favorite Jet of all time and I am almost 40) this is why you just can't give him what his alleged asking price is. That money is reserved for QB, pass-rusher, and an elite WR......and I mean absolutely elite WR. Throw in elite Hall of Fame LT if you wish. http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap1000000147197/nfls-richest-contracts-for-2013#photo=1
Flacco = Vastly Overpaid Romo = Vastly Overpaid Eli = Overpaid Mario Williams = Overpaid Cutler = Overpaid Sanchez = Vastly Overpaid Bradford = Overpaid Kolb = Overpaid Revis is a better player than those players by far. Having Revis makes our defense 20X better.
this is the most important thing to consider. its not even as important to set the edge on his side of the field cause hes so good at run support.
We were still a top 10 defense last year without him, though. He makes our defense better but isn't he a luxury for a rebuilding team?
Do you have any metrics to prove this absurd statement? I mean if you're going to try to quantify how much better he makes our defense, please share your analysis with all of us. Otherwise you're just making a ridiculous statement and hoping no one calls you out on it. Oops.
Is having Revis better than having multiple draft picks and a lot more cap space to sign other players. Just as a reference, last years #9 pick (Luke Keuchly) got four years and $12.58 million for the entire contract. Thats roughly what Revis will get on a per year basis. You still think having him handcuff the Jets and their cap is the best move?
Well, I've watched every single Jets game for the last two decades. So I've seen the results myself. Against the Steelers last year, right after Revis went down, Roethlisberger completed 77.4% of his passes (Highest completion % vs the Jets under Ryan). According to ESPN, "Jets CB Darrelle Revis (torn ACL) is out for the season. NYJ has allowed a 73.8 comp pct with Revis off the field the past 2 seasons" before last season. Just go through the games with and without him. Did we do well without him? Certainly. Cro was amazing. But Wilson wasn't good. You cannot possibly tell me that Revis and Cro isn't infinitely better than Wilson and Cro. Pittsburgh wouldn't have beaten us. Patriots wouldn't have beaten us both times. Maybe if he didn't go down, we could have gotten momentum going. Maybe we could have stopped runs to the outside because there would have been a CB who can actually open field tackle. Hm, trade the best CB to ever play the game for potential busts...tough call.
