Don't see it happening... If Palmer leaves, he wants to go to a contender. He's been there, done that with a losing franchise. If the Jets want him, they are going to have to pay HIS price, which could mean over $10M Also Palmer doesn't want to move far from his Southern California. I think he'd be willing to go to Arizona because (a) it's close to his home and (b) he gets to throw to Larry Fitzgerald. I think Palmer is a fantasy for Jets fans.
Absolutely. His mastery at choking is unparalleled. Nacho couldn't choke because his offense would lead to losing situation frequently. You can't choke when you are losing all the time.
So who is better, Kolb or Palmer? Also, the Bills and Dolphins are preparing for all out war and we're still trying to put together an army fit enough to take the field.
None of Garrad, Kolb, Palmer, Sachez (add available 'talent' to the list) will be capable of carrying the Jets to the ring in 2013. So why waste $10M (or even $2M) for a QB who 'might' win us one or two games more than some other QB. Is finishing the season 7-9 vs 5-11 really THAT important? I'd rather save the money for someone who could actually HELP the Jet and: 1- Focus on getting Revis under contract, even if it takes all season long to do it 2- Let Garrad and Nacho and whoever else is laying around battle it out in our new WCO under a new OC and new QB coach. Assuming complete failure, we head into 2014 with an eye towards our new Franchise QB, either FA or Draft. If that $10M comes down to signing Palmer for a season and winning one or two more games OR signing Revis long term, I'd vote for Revis Island.
Doesnt matter now...zona is giving a 5th round draft pick for him. They are trying to rework his contract. Zona was concerned TB would pick him up if released.
Whether the Jets could get Palmer is all about what number he would cost, how he fits under the cap (if he does/can), and whether Sanchez can be dealt. I have recently been thinking dealing Sanchez was off the table due to lack of interest, but perhaps the Raiders might give him a chance. Palmer would be a substantial upgrade. No one in the draft at Qb sounds attainable or likely to help the Jets, or both. Palmer probably has five more years left in him, maybe more. He could be a good fit.
I think Palmer would be a good choice, but I will say this. If they DO sign Palmer, they better axe Sanchez along with it. They are too friendly with each other for a real QB competition. It's not just the USC connection either, they had the same high school coaches and everything. Palmer was a major reason why Sanchez chose USC and they are friends to this day... The last thing this team needs is 2 laid-back best friends "competing" for the QB position and a competition is this manner is the opposite of what Sanchez needs. -If they decide Palmer is our guy - then send Sanchez on his way, bite your tougue on the cap hit and move forward. -If they decide they might try the Sanchez experiment another year, than get him a real competition to light a fire under his ass and don't sign Palmer. Either way I hope they wait until after the draft now. At various points in the draft they could be looking at Geno Smith or Ryan Nassib sitting there to pick. Both have their strengths and weaknesses but with the troubles this team has had at the QB position, I'd take at least a long hard look at them before I snatch up another veteran.
Too friendly to really compete for the starting job? Are you fucking serious? I have beaten out some of my best friends for starting roles on sports teams that didn't come will millions of dollars attached. To even get to the NFL level you have to be one of the most competitive people around. do you actually think one of them would not go 100% after the starting job with all that is on the line?
Yes I am serious. Your situation is not comparable. These two guys are both going to make millions of dollars in 2013 whether they are starting for the Jets, back-ups, or playing with another organization. It's not as if they need this job to feed their families... Either way, I'm not saying they both won't go 100% for the job, just that it wouldn't be an ideal competition. Both of these guys are very laid-back and have had tendencies to lose their focus or competitive edge. Putting them together as best friends, does nothing for either of them. Sanchez hasn't had a "real" competition in his entire NFL Career. What other QB that plays at his level would recieve that kind of coddling? Buddying him up with a friend is the last thing he needs. All things considered, I'd like whoever he competes with to have a decent working relationship. But I'd certainly rather have him compete with a hungry guy that he HATES as opposed to a friend who is a lot like him..
friendships do not play a role in NFL competition, that's stupid man - all players want to start in the NFL - that's how they make more money. Incentives for example
If and of course it's a huge if Palmer were to come to the Jets, they should cut Sanchez because he will literally serve no purpose (assuming Garrard in fact shows up in camp and is reasonably healthy). They should cut Sanchez because there would be no Qb competition if Palmer were on the roster. Palmer would go to #1, and there's no reason to have a competition for the #2 spot. Let Garrard and McElroy handle the backup positions.
I swear i get more amazed everyday by some of the stuff that gets posted on here. I don't want Carson because he and Sanchez are friends really? Carson would not come to the Jets to be a back-up. Coddled not having competition for Sanchez stop listening to NY media that is trying to stir up trouble. You don't bring in competition for your franchise QB you develop your young franchise QB. Marks performance would not have been any better or worse with competition. Luck who is his competition? RG3? Cam Newton? etc etc. You only have competition at the QB position when you do not have a QB. So right now even though I think Sanchez has a chance to turn it around the Jets do not have a QB. If he shines this year and plays well they will not be looking for competition at the QB position.
Usually that is the case. Of course, Palmer was willing to throw away millions and retire. His recent actions with the Raiders will likely net him less money in the end too. Palmer doesn't really care about money the way other players do. I don't think it matters though, he isn't coming here and if he did he'd kill Mark in camp even if he were trying to be friendly.
I think the competition would be closer than many would think. He's going to take less money to play for a better team because he has to, but in the end it was the relationships with the front office that caused his actions. I think Palmer still cares about the money just as much as anyone else.
Per 98.5 Sports Hub: reporting Jay Glazer has Oakland giving Seatle a couple picks for Matt Flynn ..... and now are discussing trading Palmer to ARZ for a late round pick. Sent from my LG-P999
Palmer still has talent? Lets look at his last few years. 2010. Despite having Ochocinco AND TO in his receiving core, and a decent defense, he manages to not make the playoffs, and fails to get it done when it matters. 2011. After Campbell gets injured, he transforms Oakland from a team that appeared to be playoff bound into a .500 team. 2012. 4-12 team record Sorry he is Brunell 2.0. He's at the end of his rope. We need a QB for the future, not a quick one year fix that probably won't fix anything in this rebuilding year anyway. I'd much rather have gone with Kolb or Flynn. And I don't care if he's been better than Sanchez, throughout his career, everybody pretty much has.
