Except, just because you have an idea, which, by the way, is really bad, doesn't mean you "could have had" double picks next year. Bashing people for your unrealistic and stupid idea does not mean that there was ever any chance of this coming remotely close to happening. You never "could have had" any of this. Nobody is dumb enough to do that. For someone with the tag "footballgod" you really know very little about how these things work. You remind me of the people over on our pats forum that think we can get a 1st this year and a 2nd next year for Ryan Mallet. I will admit though, that, as a Pats fan, I really wish you were the GM of the Jets instead of Idzik, he looks to actually be ready to create a foundation for the Jets to build on without intentionally tanking the season at the same time.
Most of the ppl here that call this idea insane are the SAME ppl that have called for us to trade out of the 9th spot to gather more pics, even if some of the consideration comes in later drafts. This is YOUR exact same concept just on a larger scale, with MUCH more to gain. Funny how things go from your great idea to stupid when it's extrapolated out.
The 'Skins just traded a BUNCH of 1st round pics for RG3 And Ditka traded his ENTIRE 1999 draft AND his 1st and 3rd the next year and got nothing but Ricky Williams. So to say no team would EVER trade 2 future 1st round picks for a double shot at the draft this year is kind of silly.
I just don't see any team making this large a trade for this draft class. The exact reason Idzik would be willing to do this is the exact reason other teams wouldn't. I think i more likely scenerio is multiple trades with multiple teams. We could trade away the entire draft to various organizations for the equivalent pick next year plus an extra pick down the line. This would make this seasons hell for fans. I'd guess 4-12. Rex would be gone, but we would have coaching candidates knocking at the door. Free reign with all those picks in your pocket is a very attractive offer. In the end i just don't see this happening. They will make safe picks to fill some of the teams many holes. Maybe take a risk or two in the mid rounds (Lattimore in the 3rd or 4th???) Rex is fighting for his job and possibly even any opportunity of being a head coach in this league again, the above option would be career suicide even though it would a great long term investment for the team.
Maybe not as true as you think...our 2013 draft class will do VERY LITTLE to affect the outcome of the 2013 season. Especially with no super stars in this draft. If I remember right, half our 2012 draft class never even made the team. Couples was the only rookie that made any difference at all, and even that was minor. If someone said you could get 7 average rookies this year, half of which won't make the team, OR you can have the top QB, top pass rusher, top running back, AND a top lineman next year, what would you choose?
You're trying to paint a black and white picture when the only color you have is gray. The draft will always be nothing but prospects, even the "top QB, linemen, pass rusher, and runningback" that you think you'll somehow get if you traded your entire draft away.
True, very true, but I bet Idzik could get better players with two 1st, two 2nd, 2 3rd, so on and 1 2 3 in 2015 than you could get with our standard 1-7. Maybe not, but my money would be on Idzik.
This is FAR from the exact same concept. Some on here are willing to trade out 1 pick to grab more picks. They are not willing to trade out an entire year's worth of draft picks. You're delusional if you think those two concepts are similar
And their 1st and 2nd round picks last year plus two 1's moving forward are rehabbing a knee right now. And of course even then the Rams met the condition I stipulated: they got lots back last year for trading their 1st round pick. They also got lots in 2013 and 2014 but that deal does not get done without lots in 2012 in the form of the 6 pick and the 38. Yes, but he got Ricky Williams. Again, even a blatantly stupid move by Ditka included getting something big this year. I think a lot of teams would make the trade you are stipulating. I think the Colts would grab it and run to the bank and use their 14 picks (or whatever) to build a team that won 12 games for the next few years, making the picks received in return much less valuable. The dumbness in the idea is not from the other team's point of view unless they are a bad team. The dumbness in the idea is from the Jets point of view.
look dude, there is absolutely NOTHING to be gained from losing out on all of the draftable rookie prospects for an entire season of development into your teams system out of college. its just never going to be a good idea because ultimately it stalls your teams progression until the next season. no matter how many players you think might be able to come in ready to play, you cant field a team full of rookies and expect to be good, and you will have to when you sign those two 1s, 2s, 3s, etc. its just not something a team should do at all
Actually you're right. The concepts are different. Trading down is trading quality for quantity. While opting out is simply postponing our pics from this year to next year AND getting quality AND quantity for the next 3 years. But who knows, maybe grabbing this year's Antonio Allen puts up over the top.
I wouldn't do this with a team like the Colts...I'd only swap with a bottom feeder that will most likely still finish bad even with the extra picks. That way we have a shot at two top five picks in every round next year, plus the extra high picks in following years. That being said, I'm done with this thread for now. I'll bump it next year when our 2013 rookies have had a year to pan out (or not) and we're drooling over the 2014 prospects. Peace out!
I mean maybe you already know this but What team would be dumb enough to do this? The Chiefs are not in rebuild mode at all... They are actually in win now mode. The I don't see any team willing to sell their entire 2014 draft for anything the Jets have... Especially adding the picks you are talking about in the future. The Jets have dire need in many positions, and a pissed fan base. There's no way they sell out all of the players on their current roster like that. How hard do you think they'll play when they see the front office isn't giving them any help at all?
I like the color red, we should trade uniforms too. This trade is so retarded that you can't even fucking offer it on Madden, let alone get it done.
IMHO I think there will be a couple of Gems in this draft even all the way down to the 7th round... Its loaded with talent we just have to have a little luck for a player landing at our draft spot anf picking the BPA.. I dont think we could fail with that approach instead of draft Rex Ryan kind of guys go with whose available and fits our needs.... From Moore, Werner, Jordan, Ansah, Jones, Mingo, Millner, Floyd, Star, Geno etc... This draft is good because so many people have us picking so many different people. So we have to do our due diligence and really find those players that fit and I hope we can use every pick from every round on the field next season. Thats the sign of a good draft...
