that isn't accurate. Howland had no problems recruiting players who knew they were coming to commit to a defensive system. the problem is he is such an offensively inept coach that, despite having an abundance of NBA talent, his teams constantly had problems scoring, and his NBA talent stopped translating to victories. wanting Howland fired isn't any delusion of the status of the program by UCLA fans; the fact that we have continued to recruit great talent validates that the program is still one of the most prestigious in the country as far as appeal to players. fans wanted him fired because his system wasn't working anymore. obviously it is exciting when your team goes to 3 Final Fours in a row, but I was always hesitant to get on his bandwagon during those years because it was clear it was fools gold. far too often the team needed to be bailed out by one on one plays to get scores, it just so happened we had the NBA talent to make that happen. eventually, though, you are not going to be able to depend on the raw talent alone to bail you out, and if your system doesn't help the players perform, the team is going to fail. that is what happened to UCLA. Beyond that, they should have never gone to that third Final Four. I think it was the second round game where Texas A&M controlled nearly the entire game, but the officiating just let UCLA play rough and come back, because being the tough defensive team was their reputation. And even though I was glad they won, I knew it was a gift game that they won on reputation, because they fouled the hell out of A&M that game and were not called.
So how big of an underdog are FGCU against Florida? Can FGCU beat a team who probably is motivated to destroy FGCU...A team that will be shamed forever for losing to a school called Florida Gulf Coast University. A college no one has ever heard of
Florida is -13 and to bet on them to win, you'd have to risk roughly 11 to win back 1. The next biggest favorite is Louisville -9.5 over Oregon.
http://espn.go.com/mens-college-bas...iami-hurricanes-knee-surgery-according-report it appears Miami will be without Reggie Johnson this weekend
I hope they give Florida run for their money, but I'm afraid like you explain that Florida is just going to be prepared and lock them down. I mean I want more of that chicken dance celebration :breakdance:
Morgan is a monster and to snatch him away from Gtown and Maryland is a coup. Going into Baltimore and beating out those schools is a testament to our assistant Heath Schroyer. He's probably the worst of the assistant coaches when it comes to X's and O's but he has some serious connections to the AAU coaches in the Mid Atlantic and especially Baltimore, Schroyer is a DeMatha grad and Morgan is the 3rd Baltimore kid that will be a Rebel joining DeQuan Cook and Roscoe Smith. Schroyer was also big in us getting Savon Goodman. Being an East Coast guy I love when we sign East Coast kids.
It's funny that they have Barkley on each year because he doesn't follow college basketball at all. He said the MWC was the best conference in the country, for example. At halftime of the Miami game, he claimed Miami was struggling because Larkin likes to push the ball and Miami wasn't doing that.
Attention Verne: Triche plays for Syracuse, not Indiana. Apparently Raftery doesn't know who Triche is, because he didn't correct him. Marquette advances.
Thought tonight was an okay night of games. Ohio State was fun but others were boring. Teams jumped out to a quick lead that the other team couldn't overcome. Was surprised the BE teams handled MIA and IND so easily.
freakin Miami, they can't miss from 3 against Carolina but go ice cold when I'm rooting for them. Oh well, I hope they enjoyed the greatest season in their history.
burke decides to heave a long one with 5 seconds left, down 3, rather than passing to someone with a better shot burke makes it anyway tie game
