Looking at some of the remaining free agents I wonder what our plans are. I like Fred Davis as a tight end in comparison to Keller. But the one guy I would love to add would be James Harrison. If we sign him that gives us so much flexibility going into the draft. We would be able to take the best OLB or Warmack or even a guy like Austin. What are some opinions on bringing a guy like Harrison in?
Adding James Harrison to the Jets at the age of 35 would be kind of like adding Ronnie Lott to the Jets at the age of 34 in 1993. It wouldn't hurt us much if at all on the field but the guy isn't going to be part of what's next for the team. It's a sad thing for people who want to see the Jets play at a really high level next year but the facts are that we're rebuilding. You only bring guys at an advanced age like Harrison on board if they're very cheap and you think they'll plug a hole that otherwise will not get filled by a prospect. One of the prices of bringing a 35 year old on board is that a 23 year old doesn't get to play.
i'd be on board with harrison if we were trying to be competitive. i'd rather see the young guys get those snaps that harrison would take.
Jets shouldn't be signing any big names (that haven't played on this team before) this offseason, it's counter to the rebuilding plan. Tank for Teddy.
See thats just it, if Harrison can be signed for the same money as Butler I am taking Harrison. If healthy he is the first legit double digit sack guy we would have since Abe' s sore vagina
I don't want to see any aging vets like Harrison, picked up. I want some decent younger depth players added, and I'd like to see the younger guys get more game reps.
If an OL prospect isn't drafted in the first 3 rounds, I'd like to see Jets offer Moore or Slauson a 1 or 2-year deal. OL needs to perform up to a certain level for QB/WR/TE/RB prospects to get the time/action to develop. Outside of OL, I'm alright with Idzik maintaining the status quo and going with young & cheap in all positions of need.
Yes. And he plays on the left side if the offense and would buy you a year or two to draft a second LB,
Moore ormSlauson will probably be back and for kess $$$$ The rookie cap has impacted the FA market in ways players and their agent (all of whom were consulted during the CBa and shou,d be fired) didnt understand.
Yes but we're are building for the future. We aren't contending for a super bowl next year, most likely. Butler can fill an OLB for 4-5 years. He is young and has good upside. He has potential to be a 10 sack guy. Would I be mad if we signed Harrison, no but I have butler over him.
He is to old, he prolly has something left in the tank but when the Steelers release you thats saying something,If we were a real contender he could be a good part for a year or two but we just released a bunch of old players so why start signing other old vets , its not parrt of idziks plan
Dawan Landry is at top my list. Butler is interesting, and i'd like to re-sign Braylon and Moore for depth. To the OP's point, Harrison i wouldn't mind if reasonable price. Probably only has 2 years left, and overall we need to get younger no doubt. But when fielding a very young team, you need at least a few vets around to set the tone.
i would not want to see harrison signed. aging vets taking snaps away from young players who could be long term answers is not a good idea right now. as far as available f.a.'s, i would like to see slauson resigned. he could compete for starter at g or backup g and c. very useful player
Any FAs left I would sign is Fred Davis and only Fred Davis. Head into the draft, get some young talent and work from there with filler players. James Harrison at 35, just no - imagine losing games and having him bitch and moan each and every week?
I'm all for signing...nobody. Well maybe Fred Davis or Landry. But no big contracts and no dinosaurs.
