Manziel is a Michael Vick caliber prospect at this point. He has QB'd for ONE season at the college level. If he's out there in 2014 somebody will bite but the pick will be extremely risky.

Bridgewater is a sounder choice but he's not on the Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck level at this point and the odds are against him getting there. We're probably talking Drew Bledsoe/Matthew Stafford talent levels with him.

The Jets have a better chance of finding their franchise QB in the 2nd round this year than they do of getting one of the guys above next year.

Another argument for getting our QB this year is if we are as bad as most seem to suggest it frees us to draft Clowney.

I think you're the delusional one here. Our QB of 2013 is already on the roster but the Jets WILL be drafting a Qb, if not this year then next. You have to accept that.

    Exactly.

Manziel was a Freshman, and no one even knows how he will play this year. A&M had a really talented cast of players last year, and that helped Manziel immensely. If he can repeat that performance, then I think the pick is less risky. That said, there is still a risk with him being only a Sophomore.

The other huge risk being that BOTH Bridgewater and Manziel will be underclassmen after next season. There is no guarantee either one will even declare for the draft.

If that happens, you are left with: McCarron, Boyd, Murray, Thomas etc. Honestly, I think that group is just about the same as this years group. They are all good, but no one stands out, and they all have question marks (I'm biased to Murray because I coached against him, but I know many will disagree. And he has his short comings.). But, none of them are elite prospects like Luck.

Assuming his stock remains the same, I would be shocked if Bridgewater didn't declare, especially after what happened to Barkley.

It's leaning that way. It's just no guarantee.

Everyone thought Peyton was coming out too, and he decided to stay. The rookie wage scale isn't what it once was. These guys aren't going to get a $40-50 million guaranteed contract anymore.

I just need to vent. If it's true that the Bucs are offering a 1st and a 2nd next year you TAKE IT. Next year is going to be a better draft class anyway, this seems like a such a no brainer to me. Also the way I see it we are going to need a QB pick next year, why not stock up for next year as much as possible. This way we can trade up to the first pick if we have to. Come on Idzik get this shit right.

The offering is likely just leaked speculation

I believe he's trying to squeeze a second or third rounder out of them for this draft in addition to picks for next season. I think Idzik wants to take a QB in the second or third round of this draft, but only if we have extra picks. We need to keep selecting QB's every season until we get it right. But it helps if we have extra picks in this risky QB draft because of the high possibility the player doesn't pan out. Unless the middle round QB comes in and immediately lights it up, Idzik will draft another QB next season.

You can justify trading Revis if you parlay those picks into finding our future QB.

The extra 1st this year puts us in a position of immediate power. So many possibilities with that extra 1st to either take someone we love or turn it into more picks.

We can easily use that 13th pick in a trade down that gets us a 1st next year anyway if that is the ultimate goal. Either way the 1st in the draft should be mandatory in any Revis deal.

The next great QB prospect won't even be in the draft until what 2017 or 2018 I just hope we don't rush the process like before

The Jets aren't looking to justify trading Revis. They're looking to get maximum possible return out of a deal.

Ideally they'd like to fudge things enough during the trade process that they get a high return with nobody on the roster moving forward linked directly to Revis exit.

It's going to be impossible for anybody to live up to the legend of Darrelle Revis unless they take the Jets to a Lombardi Trophy. Good franchises don't ask players to do things they are not capable of doing.

The best scenario for the Jets is that they get the 13 pick and a few other picks in '13 and '14 for Revis. They then trade the 13 down for a mix of picks and diffuse the direct connection of any player to Revis.

The worst scenario (obviously) is that they get the 13 pick and not a lot else for Darrelle Revis and then they take a CB or QB with the 13 and put all the pressure on them to justify the deal. That's the grinder right there.

The Jets need value out of Revis at this point. They don't need the ghost of Darrelle Revis impacting the NFL career of the player they bring in.

I think he's talking about that senior in high school.. He's a beast but he hasn't even played in college yet.
