Any QB we bring in is going to require talent around him. No QB could have succeeded with the offensive talent we went to battle with last year. Sanchez blows, but he really had shit to work with last year.

Whoever the OC is will need talent to work with.

OL is more important for a young QB and a good D. We got a running back who can catch the ball. We can get a decent TE on day 2 who can develop. If the move is to go after a franchise QB next year build the D and the OL this year and draft some weapons with your extra picks to develop with a protected young QB next year. We should also have some money to play with next year.

Making Sanchez look serviceable isn't a long term plan for contention.

The goal is to build the offense, not make Sanchez look serviceable. But if you build up the offense and Sanchez all of the sudden looks like a real NFL QB (extremely doubtful) you may have something.

All QB's need play makers. The Jets have only drafted ONE skill player other than QB in the first round (keller @30 overall) in the last decade. Let's give our QB, whoever that may be, a little help.

If we can get a 2nd this year, and a first/second next year, pull the trigger.

However, I'm not quite sure we're haggling on picks to be honest. I think there are players involved that the Jets want back, and TB is balking at that. I'm not quite sure who we would be targeting from them, but from Izdik's MO, it's probably someone stuck behind a good player.

Actually, half the blame goes to Tannenbaum.

    To elaborate:

Jets had only 2x 2nd round picks during the past 4 years, under Ryan's guidance. Jets drafted Hill and Vlad. Jets may not have invested 1st on offensive players all along, (QB/ 2x DL/ CB) they sure have burned all their 2nd round picks they had on offense.

Why only two? And why didn't Vlad grow into the starting role? You tell me. Part of me wants to point the blame to T-Bomb.

My gripe about drafting a WR with our 1st is we drafted one high (2nd rd) last yr and it did't work out. You hope it gets better this yr, but you bite the bullet in this draft regardless. You can't keep drafting WR's every year until one stands out (not saying that Hill won't). We took our chance last yr. You can deal with Holmes, Hill, Kerley this year. You wait another yr to draft that position b/t 1-3 rounds (if needed). If you go O, I hope it's the line. I hate drafting TE's in the 1st.

Last time a WR drafted in 1st round made an impact in his rookie year was when Andre Johnson went to the Texans. Before that - maybe Randy Moss.

Drafting WR in 1st round is a big no-no unless that WR has Calvin Johnson + Andre Johnson + Randy Moss written all over him.

Justin Blackmon had 64 receptions and 865 yards with Blane Gabbert and Chad Henne throwing to him last year. If that's not an impact nothing is.

AJ green had over 1000 yards and 7 TDs his rookie year. Julio Jones had 950 yards and 8 TDs.

Your perception is nothing but a myth.

    AJ Green?

You think drafting a WR in the first is a big no-no because most don't do a lot as a rookie? Surely you must have more than a reason than that.

I agree with those that say we should be building the offense, but it's like a catch 22 because the early draft picks will be mostly defense. This draft is much better for D than O this year, so we should still draft another OLB or 2 as early as we can, IMO. I'd still be all about drafting a late 2nd or 3rd round QB, a TE and an OG in there with that as well. Of course we're going to need safety help on top of that also, so it's anybody's guess what will actually happen.

All right - Julio Jones, AJ Green, et al.

    And Randy Moss

    Common denominator?

    1. They had a team in place already.
    2. They all had elite physical attributes (height, physicality, etc)

Compare that to Calvin/Andre Johnson. They didn't have a team in place when they were drafted. (That was the point.)

AJ Green Hardley had a team in place. His starting QB was a rookie second round pick.

Justin Blackmon played for one of the worst teams in football and put up good numbers.

How about Percy Harvin. 790 receiving yards and 6 TDs to go along with 1100 return yards and 2 TDs in only 15 games. Not bad for a no impact wideout.

Yes they all had elite skills, that's why they are first round picks. You want to draft a game changing talent in the first. Be it a WR, OL, OLB or what ever position. It's silly to take anything but a kicker off your first round board simply because of position.

Unlike 10 years ago when WRs had high fail rates, that trend has now reversed. That is because of the introduction of the spread offense throughout college football and the fact that even at the high school level teams are throwing the ball. In the old days, rule of thumb was that it took 3 years to develop a pro WR. Nowadays, they can make an impact right out of the gate.

This also explains why Hill needs time to develop because his college offense did not use the spread offense.

We have no pass rush and no safties. Rex is a lame duck and even he knows this. Anyone saying that he is going To magically create a top defence this year with out drafting a LB and safety is naive to say the least. Obviously the team is committed to this quarterback and this horrible wide receiver group for at lease the next year.

Rex generates a lot of pass rush with secondary blitzes. We drafted 2 safeties last year in Bush and Allen. We also drafted a LB last year and just signed one in free agency. Are any of those guys ready to step up?

That will be a big part of this season. Hopefully the major mistakes this year are growing pains instead of guys who are just too old and slow to do the job anymore.

Hopefully one of Allen or Bush can take over one position and be the future their. Davis needs to step up this year and make an impact, we cant afford to miss on that pick.

Maybe Randy Moss? I think 1300 yards and 17 TDs is good enough to delete the maybe out of that.

Rex is becoming a joke even to loyal Jet fans.

"All the reports that the New York Jets are shopping cornerback Darrelle Revis, with Tampa Bay as a strong contender, were refuted by coach Rex Ryan on Friday when he was asked about the future of arguably the team's best player, Jane McManus of ESPN New York reports.

"I've never had one conversation with anybody about trading any of our players," Ryan said. "

Every person in the world knows it, but Rex is trying to play ignorant. Well guess what, I don't think he is playing any more. I am about ready to say good riddance to him.
