This is definitely a favorable trade for our team, although we'd still have that risk of TB actually playing well next year. Plus, our Jets could draft shittily both years...
I think so. they offered their first two picks for the 2014 draft. they get to keep their first in this years draft and solidify their secondary with Revis. they can use their first rd pick to draft a need for their team. I think Idzik would pull the trigger on this deal. even if the Buccs makes the playoffs next year we are still getting 5 picks in the first 3 rds in a draft that is loaded with talent.
I believe our crew can get the job done in the drafting department. regardless it's still 5 picks in the first 3 rds. maybe even 6 if we can a compensatory 3rd for Landry.
I don't really think the hold up is in which draft the picks would come in as many suggest. All reports seem to suggest that the Jets aren't even negotiating with Bucs, which leads me to believe Idzik wants more then the two high picks dispensed somehow in next 2 drafts. It's either it's gonna work out beautifully and we get a nice haul of picks in next two drafts or he is gonna overplay his hand and be left with nothing. It's a risky play, it really seems as if TB is the only option.
QDR, I can't tell you how much I want to believe that our folks in the war room can get it done, but it's tough. Imagine if we hit on all FIVE picks?! Our team would be set for a long time! Even just one or two would be great. But, I guess I'm putting the cart before the horse. Revis is a solid commodity and, if he is 100% and the best corner in the league, he will still be in the mid-prime of his career. As other posters have mentioned, getting a haul for him should be a certainty. The success of the trade hinges on whether or not Idzik can turn those picks into greater value than Revis -- not an easy task, particularly for a franchise that's drafted as poorly as our team.
this really is a fair deal for both sides. With the depth in this years draft we can get some real value with an extra 2 (also gives us trade back options to stockpile or add next years picks). If TB is stead-fast about not parting with the #13, then get the #2 in 2013 and add a #1 and #3 in 2014 (that can esscolate to a #2 if they make the playoffs OR Revis is a all pro).
You can't use this as an example at all. We have a completely new GM right now. He seems to know what he is doing with the cap, now we are waiting to see what his picks will be like. Showing the shitty ass picks we had under Tanny and other general managers does not explain anything under Idzik.
While that's true, it also doesn't mean he's going to make great picks. He could be worse than Tanny. And what hasn't changed is our scouting department. Nothing will change with that until after the draft, if at all.
I completely understand where you're coming from on Idzik. On the one hand, it's not fair to Idzik to say that our team's draft will be terrible because our team's history of drafting is terrible. On balance, we can't accurately predict our team's draft performance this year because it's our GM's first year running his own show. (FWIW, the scouting department has largely, if not entirely, been held over.) IMO, I think it's fair for fans to be skeptical, within reason, but it is really hard to miss five times in the first two rounds in back-to-back drafts.
i was about to say the same thing. if the scouting dept hasnt changed then hes running on the same intel. if the intel is bad then he will join the long ranks of draft "geniuses" that the Jets have had over the years. We all hope he does great, but history says otherwise.
I am not saying we WILL have a better draft than ever before. All I am saying is that you can not make an acusation about the upcoming draft based on past GM's and their picks. It works both ways, which is why I am not saying anything about what Idzik will achieve yet. All I am saying is that it is not right to judge him right now and point out our past failures and imply this might happen. Yes, it might be terrible, but it might be great. So I will wait to reserve judgement until after the fact. The drafting personnel may be the same, but Idzik is not. And I can almost guarantee you he will have major say in this draft.
The first round pick would be perfect to pick up a good reciever. The Jets needa just get rid of him. We had a top 10 defense, we need a better offense. Get a middle of the pack offense and we are a playoff team.
Things will change for the draft that we would be using the Revis picks though. Our scouting department needs to go. Besides no matter what team you are it'd be silly not to take a 1st and a 2nd. With Revis the Buccs are good but they aren't SB contenders. Our 1st plus a 1st in the teens or early 20s and an extra second would be awesome. Its the kind of draft we need to rebuild our offense.
I would only grab a receiver if we have Tampa's 13th also. Reason being, we are in desperate need of a pass rusher. Yes our defense has been solid every year, but we just lost a lot of defensive players. Possibly including a pro bowl corner in Revis. With number 9 I would love Jarvis Jones and if we had Tampa's number 13, I think Tavon Austin or Cordarrelle Patterson could drop to us at 13. I would be ECSTATIC with Jarvis Jones and Austin or Patterson in the first round.
Are you high? A wideout? You have Hill,Holmes, Kerley, and probably Edwards returning, and you need a safety, an OLB, a guard, and depth at every position except WR. The move we needed to make on offense was at OC. We did that.
i don't blame the jets scout department. They indicated that guys like Gholston, Hill & Vlad are projects. The intel is correct, the changes needs to be made with who has the final say/vote etc. And that has been changed.
