Come on, it is not like we ever traded away our best player and he won a superbowl with that team. opps we did. I wonder what team that was........hmmmmm
I really can't believe people don't realize this team will suck this year regardless of what we do....we are in full blown rebuild mode. There are a few reasons why you trade revis for a 1st and 2nd in 2014 over TB's pick this year. This team has very little talent right now and they should keep it that way, this way we potentially get a top 5 pick next season. With that pick we draft our future qb and with TB's pick we add an offensive weapon for him. Also, we free up a lot of money to try and create this into an offensive team, these are the teams that win nowadays. For all these reasons give me the 1st in 2014 over 2013, even if it happens to be 16th overall instead of 13th overall this year in a week draft class.
Yeah, you've got a good point there... I still hate the idea of tanking on purpose. Maybe there is a chance of picking someone decent in later rounds. In any case there are no good QB prospects this draft. Perhaps drafting up in 2014 is still possible, but would take more that two firsts.
I'm going to guess that's where we're at. The offers we've heard through the press so far were a 2nd in 2013 plus something or a 1st in 2014 plus something and now a 1st and a 2nd in 2014. On the other side we've heard the Jets want the 1st in 2013 included in any deal. That's how negotiating goes. The Jets have a default position, which is 1st in 2013 plus. The Bucs have been offering progressively better packages, starting with a 2nd in 2013 plus or a 1st in 2014 plus and then to a 1st and a 2nd in 2014. We're going to wind up with one of a few packages in the end and the odds are pretty good that it will include either the 1st in 2013 plus something or the 2nd in 2013 plus the 1st in 2014 plus something. BTW, the leaks of the Bucs likely offers are really hurting their negotiating position. They (meaning either the Bucs or Revis people) may think that the leaks are putting pressure on the Jets to make the trade but in fact they're helping the Jets immensely in that they show the Bucs evolving towards a better offer that more closely approximates Revis value.
It wasnt my idea, it was simply a statement of historical fact. Don't take your retard rage out on me because you cant read properly.
I'd rather have this year's first included also. Revis, if healthy, is a HOF corner, possibly the best to ever play the game. Yes, there is a question on whether he will be the same or not, but with the medicine today, he probably will be. Either way, him in that secondary will significantly improve their pass defense and overall team.
So you want 1st and 2nd this year and 1st and 2nd in 2014.....NO WAY! Team will just wait till he is a FA and than overpay him and give up NOTHING
No. I'd want a first in 2013 and a second in 2014. We can fill some holes with 2 firsts this year and in 2014, all depending on the year we have, we can find a way to trade up and grab a QB
If we're getting one pick this year and one pick next year (completely hypothetical) from the Bucs, I think I'd rather a 2nd round pick this year and a first rounder next year. This draft class is pretty deep with positions of need for the Jets, and could still get a good player in the low/mid 40s while hoping to use next years 1st rounders to get that franchise QB
That is true, but I think with 2 picks in the first this year, we wouldn't have to worry so much about other positions next year. At #9 we can go after either an OL, Corner, WR, TE, really anything. I think with Jarvis Jones' terrible 40 yard dash today, he could drop and be available at 13. We can then grab him then. Next year, we can trade up that first round pick we will get and attempt to go after a QB. I don't think Bridgewater falls out of the top 2, but it is possible.
Taking a " historical fact " with no context attached is useless. The jets have never who a Super Bowl with out a quarter back from Alabama leading the team, therefore the Jets should make Greg McElroy the QB in order to win it all right? That's the same leap your taking with your statement. Oh and nice try at turning it personal with retard rage, I guess when you not smart enough to back up your stance, name calling will do.
The problem is, no one has any idea what the Bucs are going to do next season. Do they have another terrible year, or do they prosper greatly having an entirely new secondary, including a possible healthy Revis? Imagine the shit storm that would occur if we traded for the first and second round picks in 2014 and the Bucs make the playoffs? Dealing the best player on your team and a potential HOF candidate for a late first round and late second round pick? That would suck major ass. This is tough one man. I still think maybe we should take the pick for 2013 like it seems we want. Yes, 2014 will be an awesome QB class, but is it worth it to take the chance that the Bucs may be a playoff team? I don't think so anymore.
That's my impression. Bucs are caving in. 2 in 2013 + 1/2 in 2014 - that's where it stands now? That's mighty fine already. If Revis turns into 2+@ this year and 1/2 next year, that would be a fantastic trade. (And that less of a headache too. Winner all around.) P.S. As someone else mentioned here, Bucs will suck thanks to that idiot Freeman. He's just like Sanchez - just he ain't no latino. (LOL)
how about a 2013 second and a 2014 first and third (that could move to a second if Revis goes to the Pro Bowl).
