I'm not sure what to think about the 2014 first rounder. I think it could be better, honestly, but if it ends up as the 20th overall pick that would kinda blow.
If percy HArvin gets a one this year and a future 3rd-ish, the Revis gets this year's one and a future second rounder - AT LEAST. Frankly, I think the HArvin trade sets the bar at two firsts, but I will admit I think the Seahawks overpaid a touch.
I would take this deal and bank on a reasonably bad showing by the bucs this upcoming season. They have other issues to deal with and Revis by himself can't solve their issues on the other side of the ball. Even if the Bucs make the playoffs this season, the pick itself in '14 is still in the first round and gives us 2 first round and 2 second round picks to work with. Beats the hell out of Revis playing out his contract and us getting zilch.
1 and 2 2014? That's pretty much 2/3 this year. Unless they are adding 2 and 3 this year, (or higher, but 2x 2nd ~= 1st, and 2x 3rd ~= 2nd, so that would leave you with 1st + 2nd this year in terms of value, if this happens - so it's highly unlikely that they add anything substantial after 2nd. I wouldn't mind these 4 picks for Revis frankly - if Bucs offer this, Jets should just take it and run with it.) it's not happening. I wasn't born yesterday, regrettably.
Good god idzik do it now, do it now. A first and second in next years draft, do it now. Sign that trade, just do it!!!!!!!!!
Completely agree. What's more, Jets could combine their two 1sts and move up to get a real QB. Frankly, I'd rather have two first picks in 2014 than this year.
Yes, but your also failing to realize that the trade you brought up happened several years ago. Values shift all the time. In the days of less multiple receiver sets a CB litteraly could shut down half the feild in the passing game. Now days they just spread out the defense and pick on the easier targets. There is no way in hell Tampa would part with Doug Martin in this type of deal right now. Revis is coming off an ACL injury, wants historic pay for a corner, and to this point has one serious suiter in a trade scenario. The circumstances are very, very different. If you think I'm being a " dbag " fine, but all I'm doing is pointing out why your idea is wrong.
Do you think that the Bucs will finish in the bottom ten? Do you think that a bad team is willing to trade out of one of next years top two or three QB's, all of whom look better than this years crop? If you answer no to both of those, how is their pick next year helping us find a franchise QB?
Maybe not bottom 10, but bottom 15 I think is possible. Trading up to get QB can happen. A bad team might be bad because other than QB factors. Trading down would make sense for a team like this: get top prospects at other positions.
This guy has it right. We shouldn't be settling for a 1 & 2 next year. Hopefully Idzik is smarter than that.
If he had taken it the trade would have been completed..in the end however he will take whatever he can get and hopefully before TB walks away as there doesn't appear to be anyone else interested.
Ok let's look at this years top ten, KC is good after a trade for smith Jags suck at QB, so do the raiders. The eagles have vick and roles, but would not pass on a top flight QB if one was there. The lions have stafford. Cleveland, Arizona, buffalo and the Jets all have QB issues. The Titans have locker, who is not great, but shoul get this year still to prove something. 7 of the top ten would take Bridgewater or Manziel. The teams that have starting QBs either recently acquired one, have a hold over that is almost done, or a former first rounder that quickly needs to prove something. The titans, if faced with a top pick, would most likely pull the trigger on a QB next year. Most of the very bad NFL teams have poor QB play. Vick was awful last year. The Lions seem to be the only team set with a returning QB and a terrible record. Tampa has rebuild their secondary already with out Revis, would have all thier picks this year, and still have all the returning parts on offense. I can easily see anywhere from 7-9 again to 9-7 for them because of thier tough division. Still that at best puts thier pick in the early to mid teens again and gets us no help this year. I think if we want one of the top two QBs next year we are going to have to be awful this season. As much as fans whine about this of season, I don't see us much worse off at all. If we get improved QB play from anyone all the better.
Well just like its an unknown how revis will come back, future draft position is also an unknown...... So do they cancel out in a weird way? I guess.
