Chris Mortensen @mortreport Utah DT Star Lotulelei, projected top five 5 draft pick, will not work out after echocardiogram detected heart condition. Filed to ESPN. Chris Mortensen @mortreport Lotulelei's left ventricle is pumping at 44 percent efficiency - normal range is 55-70 percent. He will undergo more tests in Salt Lake City http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/st...heart-condition-work-monday-according-sources Discuss
Ugh, hope he is alright. It would be really heart breaking (no pun intended) if this is career threatening.......
wow. Sucks to lose draft ranking but just imagine if he never showed up @ the combines. Being a young, healthy guy he might not have found about his condition until things got much worst. BTW, the thoroughness of these combine physicals make it obvious now why Jarvis Jones pulled a no-show.
Why is everyone saying he won't be evaluated? He just isn't testing in the combine. He will still be medically evaluated.
Not sure exactly, but he may be undergoing further medical evaluation elsewhere: "The 6-foot-2, 311-pound Lotulelei will undergo further testing in Salt Lake City in an effort to seek more clarity with the condition, a source said. If it's a confirmed chronic condition, medical experts consider it an indication of possible heart damage."
http://espn.go.com/nfl/draft2013/st...-lotulelei-impresses-scouts-utah-utes-pro-day It looks like he will be a top 5 pick.
If Jones and Jordan are off the board at #9 would the Jets take a DL with their first pick again? I know they say go BPA based on your board, but that's 3 years in a row going DL on a team with a lot of holes.
I forget where I read it, but I saw earlier today that the reading at the combine was probably a result of him being dehydrated and since he had lost something like 10lbs in the 3 days leading up to it
He's a top 5 player. If he drops much lower than that somebody is going to get a major unexpected boost. That said, the Jets already have to pay MoWilk in a year. I'm not sure they want to have two contracts like that on the D-line in 4 years time.
true but i dont think that would discourage the selection at 9. be interesting if they were in a position to select either star, jordan, and jones. oh man - what to do??
In that situation the answer is easy: trade down. If Lotulelei, Jones and Jordan are all still on the board you're going to have teams in the mid to late teens storming the barricades to get one of them. The answer there is let yourself get over-run by the rush and grab the best offer.
How likely is it though? After Jets, which team is looking for DT help? Chargers and Dolphins probably. After that, Saints, maybe. (Sedrick isn't doing too much after all.) Or pass rusher help? We'd need that first. Speaking of which - teams belows Jets all could a good pass rusher. So how does that scenario work out in the first place?
