One of the best players pre-injury. And a player that will be on the downswing as we start to get good. And signing that player would prevent us from rebuilding properly.

I really hope the Bucs make us a nice offer that we can accept, without any conditional picks in it. If they want to do that without locking Revis up beforehand to a long-term deal that's their problem not the Jets.

i don't see any way a conditional pick isn't involved. either for play time to protect against the knee or contractual to protect against him walking.

a g.m. that doesn't hedge his bet is going to be a former g.m. soon.

off topic: urlacher not being resigned by the bears. i know the age difference is there, but a team is letting their h.o.f. player walk with no compensation

    gasp!

No conditional picks based on the contract status. If something conditional has to be done on the knee then that's ok but then no discount on the trade for the knee.

Doesn't Cro make 10? Sign Revis at 12, deal Cro. Simple.

Cro is at 7.. The problem with tampa and the jets is this keeps dragging out, neothor side want to pay revis anything close to what he's wants The corner market has plumuted. While revis may be the best corner in the game, he looking for more than double of what pro bowl corners are making. Financially not making sense to anyone. The jets have screwed this up so bad, treated revis so poorly. I have no idea how he comes back. Playing hardball with tampa was stupid, being that at one time they were eager to meet his financial demands. Seems like that may no longer be the case.

The Jets haven't screwed anything up with Revis. He was never interested in giving a home team discount. If we re-sign Revis it'll be the same scenario as it ever was "we offered him more money than anyone else would".

I like revis as a player.. Business side I agree with you he and his agents are impossible to deal with. There was no shot he was reducing money, what's funny is he's under contract now. Lol the orginization knows like the previous 2x he will not honor and will be a problem. With that said, its been the worst kept secret they needed to move him, knowing they can't meet his never ending financial demands.. At one time tamp was hot and willing to pay anything to land him, at that point the jets started playing it cool.. Well look around now. Is there any other corner getting 8 mill a year? There isn't. So now along drawn out prospect with the jets playing games, obviously has tamp re-thinking it desire to take on revis. Again, not that any team inclsing the jets isn't better off with him. He just impossible business wise. Give him 16 mill a year, in a year or so he will want 20. He's getting 14 now, coming off a major injury and he wants more.. It will never end. For that reason the jets should have made a quick deal in my opinion

Agreed and if this is how he chooses to manage his career that's his judgment to make.

Personally, I would not be surprised if the Jets (Idzik) wait to trade Revis until he proves he's healthy in Training Camp/Pre-Season/Early in the season.

Injuries happen, contenders can think he's their missing piece, etc.

If this is the case, the Jets can have some more leverage and maybe finagle a better package of picks in the 2014 draft and go all-in for a top-QB next year.

    ---------------

With that said, I still expect him to be dealt before the draft

They could also be waiting until after June 1st where the cap hit would be spread over 2 seasons and not all in one.

IDK why you people keep saying we will trade Revis soon or before the draft. Have any of you looked at the thread that shows the salary cap timeline for trading him.

    - Before March 17th = $12 Million (2013), $0 (2014)
    - Between March 17th and Workouts = $13 Million (2013), $0 (2014)
    - Before June 1st and After Workouts = $14 Million (2013), $0 (2014)
    - After June 1st and Before Training Camp = $5 Million (2013), $9 Million (2014)
    - After Training Camp and Before Week 1 = $6 Million (2013), $9 Million (2014)

Now please, enlighten me. Why would we trade him before June 1st if we woulld take a monster cap hit between $12-14 Million if we can take a hit of only $5 Million if we wait till after June 1st?

Granted, if we wait until after June 1st, we will get hit with $9 Million in 2014, but we should be able to hold our ground with that hit, given the new cap room we have from moves in 2013. 2014s cap will have much more room to play with than this year. We can't afford that type of hit this year if we were to trade him before June 1st.

well i could see revis signing for a bit less in a place like tampa due to the lack of state income tax.

the reason he doesn't give a hometown discount - maybe its the taxes.

putting my own opinions aside here - historically most athletes were NOT advised with respect to their tax burden in certain states. hey they got a good salary and could care less how much their tax bill was. these days that has changed somewhat and some players are aware of and recognize the differences in states such as texas and florida as opposed to ny/nj, ca, etc etc.

forgive my ignorance but if he signs an extension with his new team - those hits are gone, right?

What it Idzik would prefer to have the entire cap hit this year instead of carrying over $9M to next years cap. We all know this year is trimming the fat and rebuilding.

Maybe he wants more cap room next year and would be better served taking the entire hit this year instead of spreading it out over this year and next

We get draft picks this year by trading him before the draft. The cap hit hits us ahrd this year when we realistically aren't building a win now. The prescnese of Revis' contract is gone after this year.

If there is an offer that blows you away, multiple 1sts, you have to trade him before the draft. By trading Revis now, you get picks for this year on a team needing depth. You also take a big cap hit this year, but it's over with. No space next year goes to Revis. If this a rebuilding year, you take that cap hit since in reality there aren't many players we are going to spend it on.

I see that happening but not waiting until after the season starts. Any team interested at that point would probably wait until the season was over and get him for free (trade wise). Maybe not the best choice by the Jets either. If he were to get hurt again or even aggravate the knee he would be useless in a trade.

Cromartie is currently at $15m on next year's cap and if we cut him that still leaves a cap hit of $5.48m.

If Revis was traded in such a way as to spread the cap hit, we could conceivably have $14.48m of 2014 cap space tied up in two cornerbacks, neither of which would be on the team.

If possible, I say take the medicine this year.
