I'd love the 13th this year and a conditional for next year. Like many not huge fan of this years draft. Depth for sure. But lets be honest. The Jets have not been great and developing depth in the past few years. Need play makers. Next year looks like a better draft class.
We are short a safety. Hes the best one in the draft. No one os calling him Ed Reed, but...youth speed and skills, at 13...fir a projected top 10 pick...
I think this draft has tremendous talent. Definitely one of the best drafts for pass rushers, which we have needed badly. I feel it is also a strong draft class for TE's. There are quite a few guys that I think could be full time starters in the right system. I also like the RB class. Fast strong backs are going to be available everywhere. The only thing I feel is definitely lacking, is QB. This is one of the worst drafts yet for a QB. If we had two 1st round picks, that would be huge. We can get our pass rusher and either a TE or RB.
What about a bunch of the lower picks from SanFran THIS year (like 4-5 of them) and then their #1 pick for 2014 or 2015 ? Maybe take the 2015 on the hope they slip up in 2 years.
He's not really a projected top 10 pick. Bradway said that the strength of the safety class is in the middle round (2-4). I remember him saying that they are confident that a starter can be had in that range... If we address safety, thats where I would guess they look for one.
Holdonasekkant....holdonasekkant...bradway drafted Sanchez...now youre taking his word for it...:rofl2: /facessa.
The problem being its also the best range for wideouts, running backs, and tight ends. We have a lot of areas we could hit up in that range. Vaccaro is the best cover saftey in this draft by quite a bit. If we had to firsts i would not mind him being one of them. He's projected by most to be a mid to late first, but 13 would be good spot for him. Your basically to the mid point of the first round anyway. Now if you want to argue taking some one that may fall like one of the guards I could understand, I just think it would not be out of line for him there.
It's the Post AND unnamed sources, so take it for what it's worth, but... http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/bucs_stop_SrTMQB95gWW07Qv94WrRUN?utm_medium=rss&utm_content=Jets Honestly, my reaction to this is positive - these are the types of comments you see when you're dealing with a very public sports negotiation and one side is trying to re-gain leverage. I could be dead wrong, but this makes it seem like Idzik has a very firm handle on the situation; comments like the ones in the article are often born of a lack of legitimate/substantive information coming out of one side.
I think the Jets want a 1st and no one would give it to them. If no one will give the Jets a 1st, keep Revis, hope to resign him, and if he leaves next year get a 3rd round pick for him. It is pretty simple, and is exactly what I will do. The Jets aren't screwing up anything. Trading him for less than a 1st would be a mistake, citing league sources close to me (my dog).
The Jets aren't going to trade Revis cheap because one suitor might drop out early. The draft is one point at which Revis might go somewhere. When he shows he's in good shape in June is another point. The opening of training camp is a third. Anybody who thinks they're going to get Revis cheap because they have the only offer on the table at the moment is probably going to be disappointed until we're in August.
What's amazing is that it seems every single story wants Revis to be traded. It's as if every NY tabloid want the JETS to lose a great player and/or make a fucked up trade just to keep writing their circus articles. "It's Amazing"? Yeah,ok.. go blow a Rhino's asshole.. I can't stand these guys...
I would like to see a decent attempt on our teams part to keep the best player we have on our team don't get me wrong. But when rational thinking and reasonable offers are finally off the table and the writing is on the wall I hope we get a decent return for him.
Bucs haven't ruled out including the #13 pick as part of the package. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...-ruled-giving-first-round-pick-darrelle-revis ".....Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said Monday at the NFL meetings in Phoenix that he hasn't ruled out including the 13th overall pick in a compensation package for Revis, according to the Tampa Bay Times. That's a key development, because it was previously reported they wouldn't surrender their No. 1 in next month's draft...."
This comment from their GM makes me think the Jets are going to be able to get more than the 13 overall from them. The GM wants Revis and so do the owners. Idzik just has to make them sweat until they give in and offer a great package. It sounds like he is playing it well so far.
I hate to see him go, but I think we are going to get a monster trade out of this. Idzik seems to know EXACTLY what he is doing. At first they were not willing to give up their 2013 first rounder. Now they are. It seems like Idzik is just laying in wait making them lick their chops until they offer us a huge deal. I never wish a negative on a player, but for all we know, Revis may never be the same. We may just get lucky and trade him away at a huge price and then his reecovery doesn't pan out to him being the same. That's a major possibility.
It would be a 2015 compensatory pick, not next year's draft, and we're not getting a comp pick if Revis leaves, anyway. If we let him walk in free agency, we get nothing.
I have wanted Revis gone since his 2nd holdout. He is overrated in terms of his contract demands. Is he great on the field , yes. Is he 10+mil per year great, hell no.
That report also makes no mention of the fact that about 6 hours prior, the Bucs GM or owner said they would give up a first for him. Aka, that report is a crock, luckily.
