I had this argument with my friend at the bar Saturday, I want to see what you people say. The question is ... "New York is a ____ sports town"
its baseball... When you think NY...you think Yankees When you think LA...you think Lakers (basketball) The tougher argument is with Boston...Celtics or Red Sox...Ultimately, Red Sox/baseball rules Boston.
New York is a baseball town. New Jersey on the other hand is a football state. Most football teams per square foot in the entire country :rofl2:
NY is considered a baseball town b/c we have the most successful franchise in sports that plays here that is a baseball team but the Jets playing a meaningless Mon Night game in october drew higher ratings in NY than the Yanks who were playing a playoff game so I think football is really #1.
in the late 60's and early 70's it was a basketball town. they still call it the sport of the city. it can be attributed to whomever is winning at the time.
that's more a product of 1) football being more popular right now in general, 2) the Yankees in the playoffs are ho hum in the last decade or so until it's a World Series. NY is was and always will be a baseball town.....Christ we don't even have a football team that plays within the city's borders.....rooted from the old days of the Giants Dodgers & Yanks........and all of the Yanks titles as much as they want to make me puke.
Baseball unless the Knicks or Nets become consistently good. Baseball has the most successful NY franchise, the Yankees. Basketball is second (mostly mecca of basketball, msg, historic, etc) but when you have the main team bad for 10 years at a time, it can't compete with a team that's missed the playoffs once in the last 15 years(?) Good question though. Oh and overall across the country football is more popular so it will draw viewers. Also, missing 1/16 games is a LOT more painful than missing 1/162 games.
This made me shart. NY loves its sports. Great "sports town" but it is a BASEBALL town. Gay? yes.But true
If Brooklyn Dodgers were still around or NY Giants...This would be a bigger baseball town. NY Mets, will never be the same feeling.
as a proud non-new yorker and proud non-east coast raised individual i can say ny is easily a baseball town. yeah, town. i said it.
