Both Revis and Tannenbaum said it was a band aid contact after it was made. Revis immediately said it was a 2 year deal and the Jets never denied that until last year. The evidence that it was a 2 year deal is Revis wanted 16.1 million a year which is exactly what he got the 1st 2 years. Secondly because of the no-tag franchise clause it would be extremely risky to wait until 2013 to try to resign him as he could just play out one more year and cash in. Which is why many people said in 2010 it was written realistically as a 2 year deal. In this cases its a 2 year deal if you are using it as a means of rewriting it into a long term deal. But if your planning on not resigning Revis or risk not resigning him then one can view it as a 3 or 4 year deal.

    To be fair:

Idzik never 'confirmed' the intention of Revis trade - nor did Ryan. It is not like Woody Johnson said "I am trading Revis this off season." either. So there you go. Three strikes.

After that, it's all Cimini, shemini and Mehta. Ah, and some clueless beat writers from elsewhere.

Its all gossip none of it has been substantiated. Idzik has made some nice smart moves thus far. Nothing splashy just good players being signed and expensive older players being released. No need to be in any rush at all w/Revis and hopefully we keep him.

But then why the no holdout language?

Were the Jets trying to get protection against Revis holding out in the two years when he got $32.5M?

It just doesn't make sense. I looked at that deal when it was signed and I assumed it was going to be a 3 year deal with the last year used to negotiate an extension.

Apparently Revis thought it was a 2 year deal and we have no idea what Tannenbaum thought it was other than he didn't pursue extending Revis prior to the season last year.

Another Intangible to this trade is Idzik's carrer, He has got to know that if he bungles this trade and we get low picks in return or the num 1 pick ends up being a bust its gonna follow him and it could get him fired at some point. If he gets fired in two or 3 years he will be done as GM and that part of his carrerr will be ruined . So he has to tread carfeully none of the talking heads seem to be bringing this part of it up. He is a first time GM who is gonna be responsible for trading the best CB in the league and the best Jet since namath. He's got to be a little worried about this whole thing if hes not hes an idiot

And what you said right there...also, I have to believe a lot of the previous bad blood moved on with Tannenbaum as well...or at least should have.

Two reasons revis is still a jet.

One. No takers for the alleged best defensive player in the game ( ps..he isnt by a long shot..hes the best CB.)

Two. And you alluded to it. The new CBA and roomie cap are re proportioning salaries.mevi$ may yet remain a jet. But at 8 mil, not 16,

revis is widely considered the best defensive player in the nfl

he is the most dominant at his position by far

please stop trying to downgrade one of the greatest players to ever wear a jets uniform.

If you could cover like Revis then you'd be in this business.

Quite frankly I don't think Revis is going. As mentioned we'd lose $3M against the cap. I think he's resigning and Cromartie get's cut next year, or traded this year.

    Well then...wheres the market?

I think you do t understand the relative meaning of the "at his position" part of your own statement.

PS. Revis is not even a top 5 all time Jet.

Namath,Maynard,Klecko,Gastineau, walker,McNeil, thats 6 with more imressive resumees.

    And i left Riggins out.

the jets arent actually shopping him anywhere, so there is no market to speak of. he is not an available player. that being said, teams are still calling up to make offers. to say there is no market for revis is just ridiculous

thats much more likely, however i dont think the corners are going anywhere

there is no need to blow up the backfield, especially when trying to plug new young pieces into the system. the success of the d this year will ride on the shoulders of revis and cromartie in the backfield with wilk and coples coming along and getting pressure up front. if we can get some linebackers who can keep up with runing backs and tight ends we will be in great shape. the team is not going to be as bad as people are crying about. sure its not gonna be pretty, but they will be competitive.

No, its a fact. Hes very available, because the Jets know the whiny little douchebag isnt playing for 6M. And since he cant hold out...he will be battling a phantom hammy injury all season.

Theres no market for the headache.

And hes still not a top 5 jet.

Blow up the backfield...are you delusional...?

Blowing up the backfield means putting Mevi$ back in it. Since he was out of it all year.

So...what you are saying, is....unhappy with his current contract, and after one catastrophic injury...Revis will trot out for 16 games this season....?

I hope you are right, and I am wrong. I just dont see it that way
And PS? Its not hate...its a realistic voew given the players history...consequently, why do you overvalue him so much?

Hobbes I must disagree with you big time,,,,Revis might not be on your all time top 5. Jets but he is on mine,,,,,I mean Riggins ,,,,,? I would put Snell ahead of Riggins but that's me . After Namath any and all names can be argued,,, ,hell I would throw Gatineau off my list for the mere fact that he was invisable against the run, quit on his team and then we could talk about what an absolute jerkoff he was,,,,then theres other guys Joe fields,,,Winston Hill,,,Chrebet,,,Toon,,,,Stan Blinka oops slipped in there,,,,,You could easily add others just saying,,,,,back to this thread I think Revis is the best CBin the league and possibly the best defender,,,,there is no way to judge what the market is for him because he is NOT a free agent and according to the Jets they are not even in serious if any trade discussions,,,,again just sayin
