You bring up some really good points. Even though I have come to the conclusion he is as good as gone, I also have been thinking the same thing about the contract demands. I haven't seen it once from his side where they are demanding 16 mill a year, with that said because of his track record of holding out, not honoring contracts I assumed it to be true.

At the end of the day as much as we would all want this to be resolved somehow where he ends up back with the jets, I don't see it happening. I think the jets fo has hamdled this very badly. I know some on here think idzik is a genious and is handling this right. I disagree and feel like they did a bad job of keeping it secret there desire to move him and its set off bedlam. Tamp isn't budging in my opinion because the pr is so bad, doesn't seem that there would be any chance he comes back. The jets made it clear they don't want him and with all going on, I'm sure he doesn't want to be back, as he has been villified and there purging the roster. So why should tamp buckle?

I like your point that he can't afford to hold out eithor way coming off the injury. Never thought about that. If he really wants to be paid, he has to prove he's back and not a nuissance to the orginization

Yup! That there is the bottom line. Period...end o' story. At the end of the day he cannot hold out this year. Period. He has to come to play. He has to come to training camp...he has to go into the season and he has to light it up or there is no BIG contract at the end of the year...from us or from other teams. He will not get it done in Pre-season either...there are not enough reps to prove anything. Either he plays this year and to a HIGH level or he's over. He is right in the middle of his prime. To sit this year would damage him greatly...it would cost him not only this year but the next one or two as well. Now THAT is the business side of football I'm familiar with.

listening to offers and actively shopping are very different things

its out there in the media that the jets are open, so of course teams are going to call with offers. doesnt mean anything. until the teams start negotiating its all just chatter and so far there have been no negotiations or anything. just an offer, that came before the roster bonus.

i really dont think jets are trading revis. if anything, like another poster said, they are trying to estimate the value of revis and see if they could get a fair offer before ultimately beginning negotiations with revis. i dont think the offer came, and i think the jets might try and resign him.

hehe, with all the hub bub about hte new posting structure i figured yours should read

CONSPIRACY?: another revis thread, but more interesting

this wouldnt surprise me either. really nothing at this point would surprise me one single bit. only because we really dont know what the grand plan is for the team. it appears as though we are rebuilding, but how long do they plan on having it take? will we be down 1 year hoping to be back up in 2? then maybe revis getting resigned isnt such a terrible idea.

Revis will be traded, for sure!

    1) Woody has been so traumatized by the constant threats, money demands, & personal disgust for the actions of Revis' agents, that he wants him off the team. Team Revis brings Woody & the Jets a future of tension and anxiety. Basically,Revis is now getting fired.

    2) The Jets, by contract, can make Revis play for $6 million this year, with a risk of injury which will cost him huge future potential earnings as a free agent in 2014 should he get hurt. Therefore, Revis has little interest in staying with the Jets now while he can command $10-14 million this year if he's traded, rather than the $6 million from the Jets.

    3) No State Income Tax in Florida - on $10-14 million per year, he'll save at least $600,000 per year on State Income Tax. Tampa Bay Bucs = A nice piece of change!

    4) Assuming Revis hasn't gotten fat & out of shape from a week in Paris he can resume his workouts in Arizona. Once he's shown that he's in good condition, with full left knee recovery, we'll see very good trade offers for him as teams realize they have no player comparable to him. The man is a true superstar, but you have to put up with a lot of BS from Team Revis along the way.

One thing seems pretty obvious. The jets are not getting the kind of offers they would need to get to trade Revis, and by the bargain basement FA signings they are making it seems like they are gonna move forward for this year with the idea they need to just fill holes as best they can.

This isn't a knock on the organization. I just think the new GM doesn't want to bury the team $$$-wise anymore than it is and will fill spots with lower priced role players for this year.

Next year the Jets will look alot better moneywise, and for this year in the AFC East, they probably can challenge for a wildcard spot.

He has not earned it yet. If he is traded in the next 40 minutes he does not get the bonus. Not likely, but just saying.

I hope he can remain with the Jets but we'll see maybe they can talk and come to a reasonable deal.

Speaking of misleading media. There has been a real push the last few years to display Revis as selfish, demanding and outspoken. Which seems to be mostly the opposite of Revis as unlike most big stars he rarely talks and does not use the media to tell us how great he is. Quite the opposite he is rather quiet.

Recently we have seen a big push to say that Revis is a guy that other teams don't want as he is a bad character guy. Which appears to be quite opposite of everything we have heard about him helping other players. taking them under his wing and helping our DBs improve their game. The question is who is spreading these rumors. Is it Woody to justify getting rid of him or is it other teams trying to lower his value?

I don't have a problem with Revis. I don't like the Gilbert connection nor his stubbornness. But I don't fault him for wanting to be paid. There is bad blood on Revis' in regards how the Jets treated him in the 2007 negotiations and the Jets are upset about the holdout form 2010, and Revis is upset that he feels the Jets did not live up to their promises to redo his deal in 2012. Quite often business can be personal and leave wounds, grudges and bitterness. Hopefully both sides can put this behind them and work something out. Sadly I think there are a lot of intentional leaks, games and manipulations of the media going on by the Jets. I don't think it looks good for a resolution at least until the Jets at least approach Revis and try engage him in some discussion.

Speculation, but maybe TB is counting on Idzik to cave and take less compensation to avoid the bonus.

The way the 2010 extension was setup it was pretty clear the two sides didn't trust each other back then.

I keep hearing about a band-aid contract that was supposed to be revisited in 2012 but the terms of that deal sure don't look like something they Jets were planning to revisit. I'm not sure where that disconnect comes from. It might just have been sloppy phrasing by Mike Tannenbaum when the deal was being finalized.

You don't write "no holdout" language into a contract that you are planning to renegotiate before the years in which a holdout might occur.

Similarly you don't sign a contract that prevents you from holding out with the expectation that the other side is going to tear it up when the years that are good for them show up.

I just think it's a huge trust issue all around and both sides would probably be better off with an amicable divorce at this point. Of course a lot of marriages end messily even when that would have been the best resolution.

    aggreed on all points plus:

#5 What team out there that is willing to part with their 2013 #1pick? I honestly don't think Rex will be keen into the idea of a 2014 #1 if he and Idzik are in the market to get the team back on track for 2103. That would give fans a bad taste in thinking that the Jets are writing off the 2013 season. How are they to sell PALs? Don't see that happening. If that team is nowhere to be found, it would leave management with tremendous amount of pressure to sign Revis long term or part ways after 2013.

The other scenario would be to trade him during pre-season camp to show off his physical status that allows other teams to judge his health better? IDK. Is that a possibility?

I could believe it. I thought it was a little fishy that the Jets supposedly had an offer on the table and didn't talk with Revis' reps about it.
