I remember the OL coach last year saying that WFH was the starting RT as long as he was coach, or something to that effect.
http://ca.news.yahoo.com/jets-oc-mornhinweg-says-sanchez-leg-qb-competition-181105866--nfl.html He said Sanchez has, "Just a little bit of a leg up". He didn't say it's his job to lose.
Meaningless quote. I don't expect him to say anything different. As the OC during this transitional phase of sweeping the crap off the roster he can only go by what's here at the moment. If Marty survives this season then I'd pay closer attention to what he has to say regarding the future of the roster. Right now, uhhh no. He has no clue what the roster will look like once training camp opens.
thats a big difference. you have to agree. if you were handicapping the competition right now based on age experience and skillset, i'd probably say mark is the favorite. garrard is 35 coming off injury and hasn't played in 2 years mcelroy lacks game time and arm strength tim is......well tim is tim mark has just enough film of good stuff to make a new comer think he could do somthing with him. thats a big stretch from "its his job to lose" though.
I don't. But there was a story about it fairly recently, in the last 2 or 3 months, where it said the scouting department did not want Sanchez but Rex loved him while the scouting department wanted Freeman.
so give him ( mcelroy) game time, and arm strength is not as much of a factor in wco. ( remember chad?) rather have guy who takes sack or throws it out of bounds instead of the spanish turnover machine, who may have a future in the bakery business...hmy::breakdance:
Sanchez is going to be a new york jet for the rest of the NFL year, book it. (he certainly won't) He might be usurped as starter, particularly if Kolb arrives and has a stellar time, but you can bet he's a backup. the cap hit is too much to cut him. it can be done, but at the expense of signing... well anybody. that helps nothing. use the rest of the money to sign your draft picks and any cheap signings to fill the roster. why cut him when he can try, fail and be ignored while you use the money that you payed him for nothing elsewhere. its really not worth it in any capacity, even if you want to move on from him ya gotta keep him on roster for this year. simple as that.
Idzik has a long term plan in place, salary cap means nothing this season. Your plan has us keeping Sanchez and signing what? Worthless crap that won't be here in 2-3 years? What's the point of that?
the rest of the team obviously. we are pretty vacant in a lot of places like LB, S, TE and such. even the shape options will cost money and bundle to bigger sum. and then we'll need about 2 mill free going into the season and about 4 or so for the draft. we have like 12-14 mill after cuts and signings so far. adding another big hit is going to leave us with barely anything to even a field a team with, which no matter how forward thing Idzik is, still needs to occur in 2013. he's staying on roster to avoid the hit that would prevent us from even having a team, he's being given one final shot among others, and if he fails he's an easy cut for next year. and who knows maybe some of the lower cap hit signings from this year form a a good foundation around the new QB. If he wasn't such a burden to be rid of, I'd say let him go, he could certainly use the change of locale and we could use a new beginning, but he is and so he's staying.
on most teams he wouldn't even be allowed to "compete" for the starting job, so he should consider himself lucky. I hope he does get released.
I don't see him being released. Even if we do sign Kolb, we still will have three QBs with question marks over them. It really will be a competition to see who is the least mediocre so we may as well have as many participants as possible.
It's the competition he never had...Having Mark Brunell was a total waste...Brunell couldn't play and if he was here to provide veteran leadership, it did not rub off...
And this is from the article in question. I don't get why people are deluding themselves to believe Sanchez will be cut when there's no financial reason to do so and the dreck on the QB market really isn't any better anyway (I mean Brady Quinn, really? And call me when Garrard can stay upright when he hasn't in two years). If the Jets really wanted to move on from 'everything' in the Rex-Tanny era then Rex himself will be gone. Rex is here for the same reason Sanchez will be, money/contract years left. And presumably they'll both be gone after the year unless some miracle happens.
i don't disagree, we have seen this 2 years in a row now. m.m. is a new set of eyes and is going to be objective to what he is seeing now. not what happened 1-2 years ago. thats why mark ha the slight edge right now. it's not really a bad thing, no matter who starts we ar going to hav better play at the qb position this year than we did last year. not that it could be worse
If we cut Sanchez on June 1 it results in an additional 4.5 million to the cap. That is not a big deal and should allow us to sign our draft picks and fill out the roster with inexpensive young free agents. The only reason I say to cut him is the negativity he brings the moment he steps onto the field at home. 90% of the fans don't want him on the team and will boo very loudly. That automatically precludes him from being the starter and probably won't even allow him to dress for most games. So what's the point??? Wouldn't you rather have a young inexpensive rookie free agent that is hungry playing on special teams taking up his valuable roster spot? Sanchez on the team is a waste of a roster spot.
Manna from heaven. There is obviously no position more key than QB, and no one was worse in the league than Sanchez. Only an idiot would keep playing him and mindlessly repeating "Mark gives us the best chance to win." There is no one move which strengthens the jets more or would better re-energize the players than releasing ol' butt fumble.
We agree on all that and more. Sanchez is done here as far as im concerned. Never once was apologetic or remorseful for the awful pain and suffering he caused NYJets fans. I know people who have met him in public specifically where he hung out and they say hes an egotistical self centered prick.
Why do people even assume competition will bring the best out of Mark? Look how he allegedly felt distraught over the addition of Tebow.
