I think you guys will him to be great on 3rd down but kind of upset he's not amazing at anything. He's a solid receiver with okay hands and okay size who's not that big. You can't leave him open, he will burn you, but you don't have to do much to limit him
Hopefully he can get open more with wallace opening more of the underneath play, but it would be nice to have another 3rd down target, bess was ours for the most part.
Pennington, when he left the Jets, was someone I wanted to see out of the "Jet system" to see if it was us or him. Sounds absurd..but Keller is a guy many of us thought had a world of talent but never became that downfield threat or open space runner. On occasion, yeah..but very rare. This should be interesting because I just always felt it was either that he was in a crap system with crap qb's or was that he could never gain any seperation because he was not a very good route runner. Sanchez..while everyone says it was his safe and best target..would live off the 7 yard button hook pattern probably on 80 % of his catches. Lets see what he does down in Miami because he never was a guy that demanded special coverage and lossened the field up for others. The system? The qb? Sounds like that would be it but Im not so sure about that.
It's just a one year contract...he has to play to get payed next year. Fin's still have plenty of cap. BenVolinPBP I've got #Dolphins with a little more than $17 million in cap space after Keller.
He underachieved with respect to hype and draft position. He was supposed to be the best receiver available in a draft in which none went in the first round. He made a few good plays but even a broken clock is right twice a day. He was a terrible blocker, rarely drew extra coverage, and still had a hard time gaining separation. No big loss. Hopefully we add a complete TE on the cheap to compliment Cumberland.
I think this will be a blessing in disguise. It will give us an opportunity to bring in a blocking TE and maybeget another speedster possesion TE and give us a different look. I like Keller but at this moment in tme if we can get two more players who fit the mold then lets go for it
Keller can be an asset but he can't be your lead guy. He'll punish defenses that are too focused on Dolphins other options in passing game. He'll shutdown if the opposing D ever decides to focus on him but I think Miami have playmakers to take advantage of that. Miami is the right situation for Keller. Think he'll give Miami more production than he could give the Jets this upcoming season.
Happy for DK. Maybe Miami will use his unappreciated talents. If he stays healthy, I see a big year. I never understood why the Jets drafted him in the first place. Doesn't have the speed of Vernon Davis but he was still faster than most TEs. This off season just seems to be getting better.
I hate this move , He was a first round draft pick and we have even less weapons now. I dont know what Idziks plan is but it seems like he is getting rid of to many people to fast, you cant replace all these guys in one year so why get rid of everyone right away. I get what he is trying to do but he is leaving us to thin. Now we need 10 starters, and the only moves we keep making or hearing news about is bringing in washed up QB's to compete, if they were rookie QB's id get the idea of a QB competition but weve seen the body of work from Garrad and Kolb we know what they are already
We officially have ZERO players remaining from the 2008 draft class. Thanks Tanny!! You have such a great eye for talent LOL
I wouldn't be surprised if he statistically does a bit better than he did with the Jets as he will have some nice players around him. His lack of awareness is annoying at times, I remember him being called "Helen Keller" for awhile because he accidentally ran out of bounds or something on a critical play. lol What is Miami going to do at RB?
Coulden't Keller have made more money by wanting the franchise tag..... Good managing there Dustin...
for the most part, the west coast is about short passes and yac ... keller has some of the worst open field moves ive seen but its a solid signing because its a clear upgrade over egnew
I'm pretty disappointed with this move. I understand that we don't have much money to sign him, but he definitely has talent. Last year was a down year for him because of injuries, but he's really been a great asset in the pass game in the past. He seems poised to breakout into a big time pass catching tight end very soon, sadly it will probably be with the Dolphins.
He was absolutely too much $$ for us, especially being hurt most of last season, but it does suck and hurts he's going to Mia. Hope he stays hurt.
Lamar Miller (speed back-avg 4.9 ypc last year), Daniel Thomas (good pass blocking), Thigpen (return guy) and a rookie likely. Some unproven guys that have flashed but we will see. I think Lamar Miller will be a stud but it's anyone's guess.
