Not. Even. Close. Bud. If he is there at nine the jets are in a position t trade out of the spot to the right team. Two things. Smith is not worthy of a top 10 grade, hes lucky to be the best athelete in a weak QB year. He probably wont get past Arizona. But if the Jets take him at 9, idzik should be out the door the next day.
Two QBs could be gone before #9. I think we're sticking with Sanchez and a slew of cast offs this year.
can't believe that no one thinks we would trade up to get him... I would trade our 1st + 2nd for Geno all day every day!
He's a top 15 player though, and simply because of his position, him at 9 is by means no reach. Honestly, he would probably be our best chance at competing ASAP. In a class where the 10th overall player is very similar in skill to the 25th overall player, its hardly a reach. If they think he can be a franchise QB, its a no brainer. I do agree with you that he wont be there at 9 though- Raiders, Cards, Bills all need QBs. I know you have your man crush with Sanchez and believe he is the answer at QB, but he is by no means a guaranteed thing. At this point, Geno has a much better chance at succeeding than Sanchez due to the fact that he has a clean slate and hasnt been poorly managed. With that said, if they drafted him, I would be happy, but only if they planned on letting him sit for a year or half of the season instead of being thrown into the least talented offense in the league. EJ Manuel would be a good choice in the 2nd round as a "project", similar to Kaepernick.
lets say we trade Revis to Tampa Bay for a 1,3,4 we'll have 1 1 2 3 3 4 4 5 6 7 trade a 1,2,6 to Oakland who needs the picks to move up to #3 and we'll still have Geno Smith 1 3 3 4 4 5 5 7 would you guys do that
http://mattwaldmanrsp.com/2013/02/27/the-kaepernick-project-fsu-qb-e-j-manuel/ No he doesnt have a rocket arm or a cheetah taped to his back but he's the most talented QB in the class and presents a clean slate for a coach to work with. Also, investing a 2nd round pick in Manuel isnt "investing our future" in him... We spent a 2nd round pick on Vlad Ducasse... and Stephen Hill. Who would you rather have? A QB that can be molded and groomed with tremendous upside (and doesnt have the pressure or expectation of a 1st round pick) or potentially a pick like Vlad or Hill?
I'd rather have a bust at RG, a potential packed youngster at WR than a bust at QB who will never be anything more than a poor mans Josh Freeman
Thats great thinking... You seem to have great perspective. Let me enlighten you on this- Alex Smith was traded for a 2nd + 3rd round pick. Nick Foles was being talked about being traded for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Same thing for Kirk Cousins. Matt Flynn who played in 2 games was given a contract that's worth almost 7 million a year. Carson Palmer who was retired, was traded for a 1st round pick and more. Kevin Kolb was traded for a 2nd round pick plus a promising young CB in Rodgers-Cromartie. Ryan Mallett might be traded to the Browns, and I wouldnt expect anything less than a 3rd. You see what Im getting at here?... Teams are DESPERATE for QBs. If you draft a QB in the middle rounds (2-3), and he shows even a little bit, you can either trade him for basically what you drafted him for, or you have your future QB. Hypothetically, we draft EJ Manuel in the 2nd, but have a completely horrible year and finish in a position to draft Teddy Bridgewater. Assuming the Jets would do the right thing with Manuel (letting him sit for most of, if not all of the year), and in Manuel's brief showing in the preseason or a meaningless game or two he doesnt shit the bed, the Jets are in a good position. If they like Bridgewater and think he's too good to pass up, then you can trade EJ Manuel for close to what you got him for (with the above examples, as long as a QB shows some glimpses of being capable, he has trade value). Ill say this also- I dont think we are going to be drafting inside the top 2 to get Bridgewater. I guarantee you teams are going to start stock piling mid round QBs and then making a return on them because teams are desperate for QBs. And to be quite honest, Im going to trust other's opinions than yours, including my own... and Mike Mayock who believes he's the 2nd best QB in the class.
First of all both Matt Flynn and Matt Moore are other teams mistakes. And its highly ironic, that in our discussion, you blow off Simms, esiasons, westhoff, and the Jets Fo opinions...then argue, that youll trust Mayock. Please loosen your belt because its hard to hear when you talk out of your ass like that. Gee, Manuel is the second best QB in the worst QB class in memory. Surely an honor. And thers no QB with a first round grade. Smith will be a huge reach for Arizona.
Mayock is a talent evaluator... Simms, Esiason and Westhoff are not (and btw, I did respond to your bull shit Westhoff argument). You are miss goody two shoes right?! How about you blowing off Vince Youngs opinion? Who you seem to think Sanchez is so a like... Its all about where you look, right? Im sure if you look under enough rocks, your going to find someone that agrees with you for the most part... Yeah Matt Flynn was a mistake... but it doesnt discount the trend that teams are willing to take a chance on a QB with limited action and showed that hes at least competent.
