Just a note as I'm following this as a Niners fan... I THINK the trade deadline is week 6, but I may be mistaken.
I think they pushed it back to the Tuesday after game 8 last year and are continuing that rule for this season. They want the excitement that a mid-season trading deadline creates.
so you'll take a 3rd right now, when we could just as well keep him and get a compensatory 3rd worst case rather then see if you can get more for him by trade deadline? i wouldn't accept a 3rd round pick right now, thats crazy talk. especially when you will be guarenteed that as a compesatory if he leaves.
Could be...that sounds familiar... BTW...and take this with a BOULDER of salt... ...but there is a guy on my Niner message board who says he knows Patrick Willis and has pictures to prove it. He said he saw him last night and that Pat told him that he was bummed they were gonna lose Goldson but the fact that they were getting Revis offset that and said look for Baalke to have it done by Noon (pacific) today. He also said that Revis only wants to be traded to SF, but that may actually mean he wants it to be a contender. That may make the TB on and off thing make more sense because Revis has control. He can elect not to sign an extension. Again HUGE, HUGE BOULDER OF SALT... ...but that's what the guy says.
I agree with Brad here. Also by early August Revis's rehab will have progressed more than now, obviously, and in camp he could show where he is with the rehab. As for the other points regarding the effect on the cap of when a trade were to occur, that is not the only consideration. There are also maximizing trade value, which is as low as it will be right now, the option to sign him to an extension, and of course the fact that cap hits in future years are not as much an issue as it stands right now. Of course even this year the recent moves have got the Jets well under the cap, but also with tons of holes that will need to be filled.
The scenario where the Jets reach a deal with somebody and then Revis decides he wants to go to somebody else is very real and Revis has the leverage to do that if he so chooses. It's not a game of chicken but it's also not exactly tic-tac-toe. BTW, I think the Percy Harvin trade may have been a wake-up call for the 49ers. Seattle is in the pipe 5 by 5 right now and they could easily overtake the 49ers for the 2013 NFC West crown and home field advantage in the playoffs.
Nothing. I dunno if the guy is even legit. Most of the Niner fans over there don't believe him. Huge grain of salt so don't take to the bank...only mentioned it because it pertains to Revis. I tend to think its BS.
If Goldson goes to Tampa Bay it greatly reduces any leverage we have with dealing with other teams. I doubt they'd commit that much money to DB's.
I don't know.....Tampa or Philly may be offering up a lot more potential cash than SF or ATL or whoever ever could. Revis and his people would be smart to take whatever money before this year if in the event something happens with his ACL.....I don't think Revis risks something happening this year or hoping a good team gives him the money he wants in next year's FA.
I actually think they WILL do that. I think the bigger hurdle with TB is that they don't want to give up that 1st rounder.
Revis has huge balls if he plays this game (or he's plain stupid). I think at this point his worst case scenario is coming back to the Jets and playing out a season where he will be underpaid and could possibly be injured or not coming back into form.
Best contract offer is going to win the day. If Revis thinks he has that out of a trade partner he may sign off on the trade.
OK...NM. Looks like they exposed it as BS. The pic that was shown appears to just be a guy with the same name. Looks like it's BS. Sorry about that.
Not only that, but even if we get a 2nd, it's not worth it. I would rather have Revis for 6 mil next year AND get a 3rd round comp pick. Otherwise, you lose revis, your cap space goes down, and you get a slightly upgraded 2nd. This is why we need to get a 1st rounder at the very least. Trading Revis is not worth a 2nd round pick.
^^^ I should have read this before I made that last reply, that is exactly my point. He should sign with the toronto argonauts at this point if they're offering him 14-15M a year for a few years.
True only if the team acquiring him expects to resign him immediately. The original rumors surrounding SF said they didn't care if they sign him now or later because they have so many extra picks they don't really need anyway. Sure, sure..somebody will jump iun and say you can always use more picks (which you can) but don't forget for everybody you sign there is somebody you have to cut.
It's definitely an interesting situation for all involved. If we knew all the wheels that were going round and round at this point it would probably blow our minds. Revis is reported (on his own twitter account) to have met with Nike over the last couple of weeks about shoe designs and such. I'm guessing, and it's just a guess, that the topic of where his marketability was highest might have come up during that meeting also.
Big, we don't know what exactly is going on behind the scenes. We think maybe Revis was after 15M based on media reports. Can't you envision a situation where neither party is acting maliciously? Revis is looking out for his best interests, and who can blame him...NFL careers are short and he needs to maximize his earnings during his short career. Woody on the other hand is likely sick of dealing with his agents, the holdouts, etc. It's also likely that Idzik has a different philosophy about paying CB's than Tanny/Rex did. It's possible the Jets offered Revis 10-12M per before last season, the Revis camp asked for 15M and Woody told Tanny to try to move him.
