No cap space, too many holes to waste draft picks, weak QB draft. Jets have to scrape the barrel & hope they get lucky.
David Garrards time has past in the NFL. Hes 1 hit away from the end of his career. I wanted someone who would compete with Suckchez for the starting job,not another Mark Brunell. My football intellect is beaten tarnished and bruised from being a NYJets fan for so long.
Who ya got then? Kolb? Cassell? Quinn? Do you want to burn a #1 and overpay for Geno Smith? Those options suck too. Garrard costs nothing. Sanchez is around for at least another year. Deal with it.
You can't always get what you want. Sometimes, you have to be happy with whatever comes your way and with our cap situation and common knowledge that next year the Jets will seriously be after their next Qb, we could have done a helluva lot worse than Garrard. He's brittle true, but he's better than Brunell and McElroy and Tebow and Simms when healthy. Think one year rental and it will start to make sense.
I am glad they signed Garrard. Of all the QB's whose names were brought up in rumors over the past weeks I thought he was the best of the bunch considering the Jets situation. Granted, he may not be what all of you fans were hoping for, but I see it as a smart move. They guy has a strong arm, has mobility, and has made the Pro Bowl QB. He would have been the Dolphins starting QB last year had he not gotten injured in preseason.
I would have preferred Matt Flynn a guy who we could possibly hand over the franchise to. Garrard is only a smoke screen as this organization is sticking with Mark Sanchez. Draft day will be another failure watch and see. I feel bad for all those who invested in PSLs.
Cap space. Do you even look at the figures? Wishful thinking man Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Look, I'm one of the biggest darksiders on this board and have been a fan since 1960. This move is only a stopgap measure, not a solution by any stretch. We all would have loved for the Jets to have gone out and signed their QbOTF but it didn't happen ok? We got Garrard and if the team spends a 3rd on a developmental Qb, its all good. Just remember that Brady was on the bench when Mo Lewis gave him his opportunity. What you're seeing is called rebuilding. We're in the process of bridging the Qb position from Sanchez to some other talent not yet on the roster. Its gonna take time but until the QbOTF is on the team, someone has to play Qb reasonably well. Besides, they really would prefer Sanchez earn his cash in 2013 because barring some miracle, he's gone in 2014. Relax young darksider and watch things play out this season. More changes are still to come. If the Ravens can trade Boldin to the team they just beat in the SB, anything is possible. Particularly with a team with new leadership and apparently, a new direction in mind. Patience is a virtue.
He's a cheaper option than Flynn. Jets are looking to resign Dustin Keller and Mike DeVito. Not to mention filling up the roster with about 8 million. Flynn would have to take a massive pay cut or restructure. It's wishful thinking Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I don't get the fascination with Flynn. I have no problem with this signing. It's not Johnny Unitas but the QB free agent market isn't oozing with awesomeness.
