How dare we sign a quarterback to compete with one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. It's terrible, especially when he is most likely pennies on the dollar!!!!! Woody sucks, Rex is fat, Idzik is a sycophant
Who exactly did you expect them to bring in with no cap space and an incumbent starter with a big cap number?
Seriously. I would have been pissed if they made a big trade for Alex Smith. Smith is the kind of QB that can succeed with a great team around him. He's not the kind of QB that can make a team like the current Jets roster into a contender. While Garrard is obviously nothing to write home about, he is good enough to replace any QB that played as bad as Sanchez did last year. The fact that they signed such an inexpensive, third-tier option tells me that they will probably acquire some more QB depth in the draft.
As is your ability to comprehend the free agent market and how the salary cap works. Garrard could potentially be an upgrade, sadly enough. And he provides competition. 0 problems with this move.
What other options you got for QB at this stage? Blowing a top 10 pick on a Mike Glennon? Comp for Sanchez and on the cheap. No problem with this move.
Given the football intellect of some if it's fans, I'm not shocked you see it that way. Do you really mean, it's a joke to bring in Garrard, when your main backup, is McElroy?
For a one year rental and a vet to compete with Sanchez, this move isn't bad by any stretch. It's also saying that the team will be in the market for the next Qb in the 2014 draft unless something crazy (Geno Smith) falls to them at 9. This also means that there are too many Qb's on the roster and several will walk the plank before TC. Outside of Sanchez, there's not another Qb on this roster that is safe.
