Waterboy we will see how all this plays out,,,in the end if Revis is traded IMO there will be more than one or 2 teams interested in Revis injury or no injury. There are rumors everywhere,,,I don't know what is real and what is not but I do know that Revis is the best cb in the game and arguably the best def player in the game so I would wait for one of these teams to blow me away with an offer.
With Eagles as trading partner: I'd take [Foles + 2nd] or [Foles + 3rd] With other teams, I'd settle for : [2nd rounder + anything better than 4th rounder] or [2nd rounder + conditional next year] ============= I think there's zero chance Revis brings in a 1st rounder. 2nd rounder is pretty much going to price most teams out of the Revis sweepstakes. Think too many Jets fans are looking at these Revis trade scenarios with green-tinted shades. Hoping that we can unload a CB for 1-season & then rebuild the entire roster. If Tanny gave up a 1st rounder for a 1-year rental & Jets didn't win the SB, he'd be fired. That scenario applies to nearly every GM in NFL also. Revis trade is more than just talent, contract status is a HUGE factor in the trade.
The Jets should trade Cromartie to the Eagles for Foles. That frees up a lot of cap space which they'll need to handle the Revis situation down the road one way or the other.
That's what I'm thinking also. Lots of these trade packages thrown out there by Jets fans are what I'd expect if Revis was still on his rookie deal. Multiple 1st rounder or 1st rounder + extra is really high. As we get closer to season start, teams are gonna sign CB FA & draft CB prospects. Sure none of them will be as good as Revis. However, they won't be so desperate for CB either because they somewhat addressed their need.
Trading Cro is something that doesn't get discussed enough. I'd hate to see him go but he's making way too much money to be CB#2. Also, he'd bring some immediate cap relief once traded. Jets need to make a decision. Keep Revis or Keep Cro. No way they should be thinking of carrying both these CB. Not in the era of salary cap. If they come back for 2014 season, Cro+Revis will be 20+ Million which is insane. Or they can just go full rebuild & get rid of both. Not sure if Rex would have the job security to survive a full rebuild like that though.
I would love to get Bryce Brown from Philly in a revis deal. Even though he had some fumbling issues he was a dangerous runner and knows the system. If you watch his game against Carolina last year he was unbelievable when he wasn't coughing up the ball. How about Bryce brown + second round pick + mid round/conditional next year for Revis?
how about not trading Revis to Philly? look how they handle good corners over there. I don't wanna see Revis' career go down the drain. Aso is the same type of corner Revis is, a man coverage corner and they always put Aso in zone coverage where he was weak.
Dude. Get your priorities straight. Why the hell do you care about Revis if he isn't playing for the Jets.
Rex is an asset. You don't get rid of a defensive mind like him lightly. It's possible that he's going to turn out to be bad enough as a head coach that you can't keep him but if he's a decent head coach than you keep him because he's a great defensive mind.
That's from rotoworld. Just more proof this new crack braintrust that Woody put in charge doesn't have a clue as to what it's doing. Gives me no faith that this is going to end well either way. So you want to trade a guy, you want major assets but you won't let teams talk to him first? Sure, makes sense. It's not like that's an easy way for a player to gauge his own value either. It'd be a lot easier to make up your mind as to resigning or trading him the first time a team says "ok, we'll pay you your 16 million." And to the people saying the Jets should "take a 2nd and run" AYFKM? They're looking at getting a 3rd anyway if he leaves via a comp pick. Has this franchise conditioned you to have such a loser mentality that you'd be willing to let possibly the best defensive player in the game walk away rather then at least TRY to resign him for the upgrade of a round?!?!
How do you figure out who is serious about acquiring Revis and who just wants to negotiate a year in advance of his free agency? The NFC GM quoted in the piece said that when he asked to speak to Revis agents the Jets asked him what he was offering for Revis. He apparently didn't want to make them an offer at that point. How can the Jets let anybody talk to Revis before they know what is on the table if Revis and the team can work out a deal? It just makes no sense to let anybody talk to a player you have under contract before that person has put an offer on the table to let you know that something good might come out of it.
um, i think that says more than anything else that they are not looking at dealing revis at the moment, as idzik has consistently stated.
because he's one of my favorite athletes who just so happens to play for my team. I don't wanna see his career go to shit.
This in a nut shell ... if they are serious, they should have an idea of what they want to pay. I wouldn't let anyone speak to Revis until they have offered enough to actually put the trade through. Remember that while everyone else is saying that Revis is being shopped, the Jets themselves have not said a word about it. Give permission to speak with Revis without a serious offer on the table, they can just line things up for when he becomes free in a year. Legal tampering basically.
We've been operating under the assumption from multiple NFL reports including Schefter and LaCanfora that have stated that the plan is to deal Revis. If that is in fact the plan, the Jets lost the luxury of trying to get compensation without anyone even conversing with Revis the minute his ACL was torn. Why would I pay premium picks for a guy that's coming off of a major injury and by all recent accounts is a diva without at least having a conversation with him first? I fail to see what's keeping a team from appeasing the Jets by privately agreeing to compensation with picks and then pulling out after getting a number from Revis with the public line that the salary demands coupled with loss of picks were too high. If Mevi$ is as money-hungry as I've seen suggested why would he care if said team was just willing to come back at it next year with the money he wants. If teams want to negotiate in bad faith, they're going to find a way to exploit the system. Let's hope so. The worst thing as an organization they could do is sell for 50 cents on the dollar. The next worst thing is inaction. Either remove the headache or extend him.
I am a Rex Ryan fan but you've gotta admit that it's common for a new GM to bring in his own HC immediately or one season after he joins the franchise. Sure there are exceptions but this is the norm. If Rex Jets win 4-6 games this season, I'd be surprised if he wasn't fired (even if the roster is terrible). Don't think Rex firing would be the right move but it's a move that wouldn't surprise me given the history of newly hired GM elsewhere.
Good point. If Jets allowed it, there would be 30 teams talking to Revis & his agent. Even if they can't work out a trade with Revis, they would surely begin laying the ground work to approach him later in Free Agency next offseason. Way too messy for the Jets to deal with. Bring a potential deal before you ask for permission to speak to a contracted player.
Fuck him.....he's earned it. However, it will be curious to see how Revis agents back him down the salary ladder. I think Idzik will wait right up until draft day before he allows other teams to talk to them. You have to put it in the (going unreported by all these crack sportswriters) context of the massive Salary dumps going on with the new CBA. Average salaries are being driven down at every position....look at the RBs available Turner,Mendenhall,Greene...and then some...supply is outpacing demand at this point....the results are predictable. The owners really pulled off a nifty move here....
Idzik is waiting for the current crop of Free Agents to start signing at what in the context of the new CBA is below what used to be Market Level.
