    Brian Costello @BrianCoz

Jets tendered restricted free agent TE Jeff Cumberland at the low level ($1.32 million). #nyj

Sounds like they're expecting to move on from Keller?

Yup. Cumberland isn't a tell. He can block, as well as catch.

I don't think he's any better at blocking than Keller. Seems like about the same player to me.

He isnt the worse but he is nothing special, My guess is we will draft some TE's late in the draft and possibly resign Keller

    He's a bigger body, taller, heavier....and I doubt Kellers listed 250.

If you look at the two Cumberland looks much bigger than 2 inches and 10 lbs.

No, they are going to let Smith compete....my guess is Cumberland and Smith will wind up 1 and 2, and ......maybe...you take a late round flyer....or rad a practice squad..or....there are bound to be vets left on the island of misfit contracts.

What does that have to do with him sucking at blocking?

I do like the idea of letting smith compete in a rebuilding year. As a rugby player myself I want to see what the man can do

although i think theyre going to let keller walk, tendering cumberland at the lowest level is not an indication of their willingness to keep keller

I was excited to see Cumberland come back this past season after the injury he had. He was a bit of a disappointment, but then again who wasn't?
I like the idea of bringing him back. If nothing else, he provides depth at a position where we have no starter.
We need to draft a stud TE.

Don't forget about Reuland. I thought he had a very solid rookie year, I can see him being a nice no. 2.

This is good news , and I hope we see more of him next year. Definitely not the same player as Keller though.
WHY do we need a TE that can block AND catch anyway? Sure thats idealistic, but most west coast teams (Successful in the past) have had a genuine down-field threat.
I find it quite funny that the Pats have been doing this for quite a while and the entire league has put it down to luck (Gronk etc...).
This is our time to rebuild....PROPERLY for once.

what makes you think he can block? it's been the biggest knock on him all along...is that he cant block at all....he made strides last year but still a subpar blocker

Blocking TEs shouldn't be as important in the new offense as it has been in the past.

agreed but compared to the TE's of today Cumberland is a sub par blocker which says something. he's overall very average to me..

i don't hate them moving on from Keller, but I really hope we draft someone or sign a stop gap if possible.
