Oh ... so what you're saying is that (according to your example), the Jets will likely be just as good by trading Revis as they are right now with him? Okay, great - let's trade him. Because if we don't trade him, he might not be on the team anyway next year (free agent) and we won't have the draft picks to balance out the loss. /Your example sucked. //Yes, I'm making fun of you. ///I'm sorry it's going to interfere with your hero-worship, but I'd like to see a championship in my lifetime.
Dude, it was clear to me he said they would be no worse than they were without him the last 13 games of last season. Not to jump in on the argument, but ftr I also am highly doubtful the Jets will transform themselves into a powerhouse if they trade Revis for picks and turn them into home runs, however many they are, all of them.
Yeah? Well, I'm highly doubtful the Jets will transform themselves into a powerhouse too. You want to know why? Because I've been a fan of the team since 1984 and during that time they have been competently run for three years (1997-1999). You'd have to be an idiot to believe it's likely that anything this team does is going to transform them into a powerhouse (particularly with this nincompoop we have as owner). But that's not what's being discussed here. What's being discussed here is: What makes the Jets most likely to win a championship as quickly as reasonably possible? And that answer to that question is obvious ... trade Revis for the best available deal right now.
How did he even dare to think about trading their lone bright star from their wretched 1-15 franchise? He had to hold on to Walker no matter the cost. See? He is a fucking dumbass. Agree?
Typical SOJF loser attitude. Hey we have a guy that's the best corner since Deion Sanders. Let's trade him! How could you tell me that at best a late first and a conditional pick get us closer to a championship then the best corner in the NFL? Give him his 16 million even if it means taking a lesser pick from a team and shipping Cromartie out of town in order to clear the books. I'd literally walk you through what I was trying to say, but seeing as how others came to the same conclusion I did, I'm not going to waste neither the time nor the energy.
It's the exactly the opposite. There's only two reasons to want to overpay Revis (and he's overpaid right now, so anything more just makes it worse): 1. You don't understand the role the salary cap plays in the NFL, or 2. You associate more with the player than the team and don't care if we win a championship as long as you get to wear your Revis jersey. That is SOJF loser attitude; you exemplify it. The guy is a pain in the ass and overpaid. Everyday that he is on the team, the team is farther away from winning a Super Bowl, not closer. All I care about is winning a championship. It's real simple ... The 31st pick in the draft and a league-average free agent cornerback for $2 million is worth far more than Revis for $16 million (and his hold out in two years after he's spent his signing bonus). It's not even debatable in my opinion.
Holy shit, you are off the rails here. The Jets are in cap hell THIS YEAR. Not next year. In fact trading Revis before June 1 WORSENS THE CAP!!!!! Next year, with Sanchez gone, the cap situation is much improved, and there will be plenty of room to fit a market rate Revis contract under the cap. And no one is talking about overpaying Revis. We who want him to stay want to sign him at the market rate. I think a fair price is $13mil, but you know what? We do not know if the Jets can get him at that rate BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT EVEN TRYING TO REACH A DEAL WITH HIM!!! The Jets have a history of bad draft picks. Will the Jets be closer to an SB with the best CB in the league or with two Kyle Wilsons and Vlad Duccasses?
To keep one of hte best defensive players in the league and the anchor of the Jets D, that's why. And it is not "cap hell" to be under the cap even if closer to it than without Revis's contract. If you are under the cap, you are under the cap. What is your point exactly?
Because we'd get to watch a great player playing CB. That's pretty much what it comes down to. Now whether that great player has any ability to lift the Jets to the next level or not? Well, other than 2009 there is no evidence that's the case and 2009 is a long time ago. BTW, related point that's kind of interesting: if you want Darrelle Revis to stay at all costs and you also want Rex Ryan gone, well that's the craziest possible position to be sitting in. There's no evidence at all that Darrelle Revis is an impact player without Rex scheming around him. If the Jets sign Revis to a huge contract and then let Rex go at the end of the year we are absolutely humped into 4-12ness for the forsee-able future.
Brad believes the Jets would be a better team with worse corners. Heh. THat is pretty funny when you think about it.
You think spending anywhere from 13-17ish percent of the cap on a cornerback is worth the expense? You've got to be kidding me. Don't get me wrong, I love Revis, and I want to see him stay a Jet forever, but a good enough deal comes along and I trade him, because he will either destroy the Jets salary cap, or walk.
What is destroying the Jets' cap now is they are overpaying crappy players. So let's get rid of the guy who has earned his pay. Not a smart move. Yes, in today's NFL, I would say $13 mil for Revis is a fair price for what he does on the field. And of course it is a simple truth of capitalist market economics that he will and should only make that much if the Jets think some other team is willing to pay him that much or more. It is funny how you don't even see the lack of logic in your position. What is the reason why the Jets might have to pay him $13 mil or even more? Because the fear is if he goes FA, some other team will pay him that much. And yet here you are saying I have got to be kidding you to say he is worth that much. It's simple market economics. As far as the Jets cap is concerned, I certainly see nothing wrong with paying that much of the available cap space on one of the two or three best defensive players in the league who is also the anchor of Ryan's defense. Again, if the Jets are not willing to do that, some other team will, or he will not draw that much compensation. And if some other team can do that under the same cap the Jets have, why can't the Jets? This year in particular it makes no sense to trade Revis, because that actually worsens the cap for 13. Perhaps you are not aware of that consideration.
BB you are out of control and obviously very emotional about keeping Revis. Emotion tends to distort logic. Logic is; Revis now is saying he want to be a jet, after "flirting with the 9ers and who-ever else may want his "services". He is all about one thing and one thing only, his compensation. Logic is; Revis has held out twice for more money. He has used the media as his platform (social media as well) to preach his worth (many ME first players do this). Logic is; the Jets are more than just a CB away from a run at a championship. Why would we tie more resources ($) up in the back end of our Defense with other more serious needs. Logic is; we are in cap hell currently (from bad contracts in the past). With a changeing of the guard, we need to move forward with team friendly contracts. Re-signing Revis is a move to the old. Logic is; Revis is comming off an ACL? Corner is a different position to come back quick from this injury. Yes AP came back but he is the one who dictates his direction and cuts, Revis has to react to it. He may never be the same, signing him to a big contract couold jepordize the jets for years to come. Logic is; cut bait and trade im for all of the above reasons...he knows it and the jets do as well...you my friend need to take a deep breath and move on.
Because it would be entirely impossible to take that 2014 $'s you don't give Mevi$ to keep Landry, sign better FA's at OLB / CB / FS or even improve offensive positions. Apparently if you don't sign Mevi$ as the best Def player on the field, you can't use that money for anything else? Nope nothing else, it's Mevi$ or bust :breakdance:
