A really good article discussing the ages of the original cast and how it may be incorporated into Ep 7 http://movies.yahoo.com/news/carrie-fisher-references-princess-leia-age-episode-vii-183800866.html Carrie Fisher References Princess Leia’s Age in 'Episode VII': How Old Will the Original Characters Be? By Greg Brian | Yahoo! Contributor Network – 17 hours ago.. There shouldn't have been any surprise that Carrie Fisher would return as Princess Leia in "Star Wars: Episode VII." It seems possible Harrison Ford joined only when seeing that she (and perhaps Mark Hamill) had already signed on the dotted line before he made his own announcement. But in a recent, well-publicized interview with a Palm Beach, Florida magazine, Fisher said in jest that Princess Leia would be "elderly" in "Episode VII" and living in an intergalactic old folks' home. This was before immediately backing off a little on a statement that might be taken too seriously. With the press dominating on that word "elderly", she followed up with noting how Princess Leia would likely be as she was before, only just a little slower. Of course, it's still worth pondering just how old the original "Star Wars" characters will be made to be in the new film. Every suggestion from using CGI to make the cast appear younger to depicting them even older has been the talk of Internet comment sections and boards. If they're going to be aged in real time (30 years), then all of the cast will still be recognizable enough where expectations won't lead to the depression of seeing them in aged, prosthetic makeup. As well, there wouldn't be many who would want to see the original cast made over with CGI to look younger as Jeff Bridges astonishingly was in "Tron: Legacy." The only real question when it comes to the original cast being in their 50s, 60s, and 70s is how much they'll be utilized in a time when older action stars have become headliners again. It's also a challenge to imagine "Episode VII" having to go the contrived route of the older stars staying in the background in favor of their young Jedi upstarts. With J.J. Abrams and the producers knowing what's at stake for this movie, they'll have to find some kind of balance in giving everybody equal time. And part of that may involve some action sequences with the original cast, at least in a situation where they're forced into it in order to stay alive. No matter that it might lead to "ouch, my back is killing me!" quotes as we've seen in one-liners from recent, aging action stars. Harrison Ford has already uttered similar lines after reprising his title role in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." For once, though, let's hope the script of "Episode VII" assumes that aging is much more graceful in the galaxy far, far away. In that regard, just about any fan of the original trilogy would appreciate seeing the cast do what they have to do by natural progression without exploiting their age. The good example of that goes all the way back to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Sir Alec Guinness depicted the part in a way that didn't play up being too old for a lightsaber duel or moving fervently with need of assistance. An updated Luke Skywalker should be made the very same way, especially since Mark Hamill is now an unbelievably 61 years old. As for Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia, she'll perhaps be made more regal in order to fit her more mature stature. Then again, with Fisher's recent weight loss and being only 56, nobody says that Princess Leia couldn't be even more the same than planned. It could still include outfits that may set some kind of memorable fashion statement if not fuller comment sections.

^ Not surprising. Isaac Asimov pretty much invented the notion of the iPad in 1951 when he published Foundation. "The Calculator Pad". When Apple came out with the iPad I figured that's where the idea came from. There are so many sci-fi geeks that are scientists that you can pretty much read old science fiction to know what is going to be on production lines 50 years later.
Man I really loved star wars growing up, the newest movies 1,2 were so bad and it all left a bad taste in my mouth
The series Episodes are going to be great, but I think Disney is going to make a big mis step and hurt the brand by trying to imitate the Marvel formula with individual films. Unlike the Marvel films where the characters are the individual brands under the Marvel umbrella, so there is no Capt America fatigue just because there is a Thor film the year before, Star Wars is the brand not the umbrella and you will quickly see Star Wars fatigue with a new Star Wars movie every year.
There hasn't been a new movie every year before now. It doesn't mean fatigue that they will stop being interested in the core series, it means fatigue that the individual character films will not be hugely successful.
This I agree with. I think they would be better to keeping the filming for movies only. Allow the rest of the stories to progress through books and videogames, not TV series.......
Who else is hoping in this next one we get another 40 minute pod race? Reminded me of one of those interminable drum solos at a Dead concert. _
