Could the Jets be a good team in 2013?
Answer: Yes, with a new Q U A R T E R B A C K. We could have been a good team last year with average to good QB play. So many of our problems were a result of our horrible QB play. The Jets have been in an unfortunate position in drafting or signing a F/A QB. Trading up for Sanchez was a huge mistake. So many stud QBs have been drafted since and we are cutting players left and right to make room for another QB. If we miss on the next one, it really could take 2 or 3 seasons to right the ship.

we arent a good team, we have the leagues worst QB, we arent adding anyone of note offensively, and we dont have the same cupcake schedule we did last season.

not only will we not be good, id say 4-5 wins and terrible is likely

In hindsight yes, but when that deal was made and we were one half away from going to the SB, no one was questioning that move.

If we go 4-12 next season, then we'll have a good QB for the 2015 season no doubt about. That would be one of the worst records in the NFL, good (or I guess bad) enough to get Teddy Bridgewater.

Not so sure, if we are THAT bad though. We'll have to see come draft day.

I understand where you are coming from. And if the Jets deal Revis, still have Sanchez as the starting Qb, and fail to make any other big moves at other offensive skill positions, five wins might be out of reach. But the opening day roster is too unclear at this point for me to make a firm prediction.

If the Jets make some good moves in the off season they can be very competitive in 2013. At the end of the day for them to be competitive it is not going to be Brady Quinn, Matt Cassel or Campbell or name your JAG QB. For the Jets to be decent next year depends on Sanchez. If MM can fix him the Jets will be good if plays like the end of the season last year the Jets will suck. None of the JAG Qbs will be the savior.

As the creator of this thread, and hearing Idzik and Rex talk lately, I have to change my stance to a huge "NO" on this question. The team will likely trade Revis, no one sounds AT ALL confident that the team will play well. Sounds like they even might want to tank and go 4-12, 3-13 for a better 2014 draft class. I don't know if all this is the right move or not, but it sickens me. I just want to win.....

I agree with this. However I would like to add that our special teams was TERRRRRRIBLEEE last year, that group cost us points/field position as well. We need to re-establish the running game and not turn the ball over 1st and foremost. I would love to see us draft EJ Manuel in the 2nd or 3rd (I don't think he lasts past the 2nd).

*Need a strong draft, especially at OLB, S, RB and G. If we can get 3 starters that contribute we should be on our way to a mediocre season.
*Start a QB that wins games, not loses them. If Garrard comes back to form, it could be the off season signing of the year, if we draft someone and they play better than Sanchez, I see us at 8-8.
*Re-sign our "good guys" IE Landry, Devito possibly Keller.
*If we don't sign our current FA's we should pursue a playmaker that can make an immediate impact.

The fact that the special teams unit was terrible with Mike Westhoff as a coach is about as pure a reflection as you can get on how bad our depth/talent was last year. I don't think that can be over stated.

Jets record was deceiving. Seldom were they blown out. Really, only game I remember them getting destroyed was against 49'ers. Maybe the Pats roughed them up a bit, but Pats do that to Jets at Foxboro every year. Jets are just a few offensive & defensive weapons away from contention. If they sign the right F.A.'s & have a great draft, they'll be right there again.

Niners, Seahawks, Pats (game 2), Dolphins (game 2). That's just off the top of my head. There's multiple games that Jets were eliminated from before the 4th quarter even started.

What? We lost 6 games by at least 3 scores. I would agree that a lot of that had to due with injuries though. The problem for me is that we have so many starters that are free agents and little cap room to bring them back. We are most likely trading Revis at some point and won't be able to resign Landry and who knows about Bell. Then you have Keller, Greene, and Moore. If you told me that we could bring everyone back from last year, then I would be optimistic that we could be contenders with better play from the QB. That isn't going to happen.

Some intereestinf facts(even if they are ultimately meaningless)

the last time we went 3 straight seasons missing the playoffs was 1995-1997(of course we also missed in '94, '93 & '92 as well as '90, '89, '88 & '87)

The last 4 times we have had losing records we had a winning record the following year and made the playoffs 2 of those years

    1996 we went 1-15, 1997 went 9-7 missing playoffs by 1 game
2003 we went 6-10, made playoffs at 10-6 in '04
2005 we went 4-12 made playoffs at 19-6 in '06
    2007 we went 4-12, 2008 we went 9-7

You know what all of those years had in common? A better Quarterback the following year. Whether it was because of injury or just finding a new QB, we always had better QB play the next year.

This year is a little different because of our cap and QB situation, but good QB play will go a long way in determining what kind of season we can have.

I guarantee we'll have a better QB in 2013. Remember, we had the same QBs in '96 as we had in '97 but they improved, I expect we'll see greatly improved QB play this season. Will it be good? I don't know but it can't be worse.

I should have said quality QB play instead of better. Sanchez was so bad last year that I can't imagine it being worse.

We may have had the same QBs on the roster in '96 and '97, but the QB that took the majority of the snaps in '96 was not the same guy in '97.

I am so hot and cold with this team. Right now I am actually feeling pretty good about it. Even if the CB starters are Cromartie and Wilson, it will not be too bad. The offense will be okay too. Not a Super Bowl team, but also not a 2-14 team either. I am thinking in the end, they will be a 6-10 to maybe 8-8 team.

Can we stop with the retarded superlatives.

San hez is not close to the worst QB in the league.

Arizona started 3 guys that were worse, Nd Ja ksonville two more. Thats five without even contemplating the matter.
