Weak competition again. Look at the game log, he feasted on bad teams. Matt Cassel sucks balls dude. I would rather suffer with Sanchez.
He did it over the whole season. Who cares what point in what game? The fact is he has put up 2:1 and 3:1 td to turnover ratios for a whole season, something Mark hasn't come close to doing. When Mark goes 1:1 that is a good year for him. You want to bring up the playoffs in 2010? I noticed you didn't mention who Cassel played, it was Baltimore. Yeah Cassel sucked in that game, because the Baltimore defense was good. You know who else played Baltimore that year? Mark Sanchez in week 1. Here were his stats: 10 for 21 for 74 yards (3.5 average completion) no touchdowns, no interceptions. That is a pathetic performance for a NFL QB. Of course, Baltimore had a good D that year, which is why you were cherry picking them to try to prove somehow that Sanchez is better than Cassel which is a joke. If you want to say that at least Sanchez didn't turn the ball over in that game, fast forward to 2011 where Sanchez got to play a similar Baltimore squad. this is how he did: 11 for 35 for 119 yards (3.4 average) 0 TD's, 4 turnovers (1 int, 4 fumbles, 3 fumbles lost).
I'm not saying I want Matt Cassel, I'm simply saying he's put up better seasons than Sanchez ever came close to, once in NE, once in KC. We can talk about 'weak schedules' all we want, this is the NFL. The Jets had a week schedule going into the end of last season, and Sanchez got worse instead of better. Beating the bad teams is what QB's should do.
So you blame Mark for the lack of weapons and bad coaching too? He played like shit so did everyone else. It's time for you to hold the entire offense accountable. I wish Sanchez had Bowe, Charles, Welker and Moss to throw to. Mark with an old ass Plax, Holmes and Keller threw 26 TDs in 2011. Accountability my friend.
that's awesome and he won less games against weaker competition than was awful at home in the playoffs. mark Sanchez was hea dand shoulders better than him in 2010 despite waht the rankings tell you.
You can't address the fact that Sanchez was horrible against Baltimore during the same time frame which blows up your whole discussion.
Yup, but realistically Mark had great talent around him in late 2009 and 2010. Better than what Cassel had in 2010. The Jets had fucking Braylon, Holmes and Cotch with Tomlinson in their backfield and a great o-line. What more does he need? You can track part of Mark's decline this year to the injuries on offense and drop off in talent (I've said that before, I think in this thread). But you also have to look at the fact that the guy has never posted a 2:1 TD to Turnover ratio, has always been turnover prone, and doesn't put up good numbers even when he has talent around him. Maybe he will mature into being a better QB, he certainly improved from 2009 to 2011. We'll see.
Sanchez late miracles (wins after trailing or tied in the 4th quarter): 1. 2009 Chargers 17-14, #16 defense, 13 wins 2. 2010 Broncos 24-20, #32 defense, 4 wins 3. 2010 Lions 23-20, #21 defense, 6 wins 4. 2010 Browns 26-20, #22 defense, 5 wins 5. 2010 Texans 30-27, #30 defense, 6 wins 6. 2010 Colts 17-16, #20 defense, 10 wins 7. 2011 Cowboys 27-24, #14 defense, 8 wins 8. 2011 Chargers 27-21, #16 defense, 8 wins 9. 2011 Bills 28-24, #26 defense, 6 wins 10. 2011 Redskins 34-19, #13 defense, 5 wins 11. 2012 Dolphins 23-20, #21 defense, 7 wins Sanchez has never lead a comeback against a top 10 defense late.
Now a late comeback has to be against a top ten defense? Those where all pretty good teams at the time. Not many comebacks are lead against top 10 defenses that is why they are top ten defenses. When were the Jets ever top 10 in offense?
you are going to compare a week 1 game where he had the ball for 20 minutes to a playoff game? Sanchez and the Jets lost 45-3 to NE in Foxboro in the reg season then won 28-21 in postseason. Postseason is a different beast so that doesn't blow up my points at all. so what? if the D makes 1 last stop in the title game in 2010 he has a chance to come back from 24-0 down at Pitt who was 1st in PA that year. Cle played NO and NE the 2 games before us in 2010, they beat both and allowed 31 total pts(including a garbage time TD by NO), 15.5 PPG, we scored 23 w/ 3 missed FGs. at Indy was in the playoffs w/ under a minute left down 2 pts. SD '09 was 11 th in PA Cle '10 was 13th in PA Mia '12 was 7th in PA and he nearly led us back at Pitt in the '10 title game from 24-0 down against the #1 D in PA but our D couldn't get a late stop.
1998, They were #4 which is the last time they were in the top 10 in YPG. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...onType=REG&tabSeq=2&qualified=false&Submit=Go
They only had the ball for 20 minutes because Sanchez was going 3 and out. You can try to change the subject, but the fact is Sanchez was just as awful as Cassel against Baltimore that year. You even tried to hide the fact that Cassel played Baltimore in the playoffs by framing it as "HE SUCKED IN THE PLAYOFFS". Well no shit, plenty of QB's sucked against Baltimore that year.
They only had it 20 mins b/c our D allowed an amazing # of 3rd and longs to keep drives alive for Baltimore. Again, it was week 1(w/o Holmes by the way) vs. playoffs.
I meant in the Schotty and/or Sanchez era. Bash Sanchez all you want but to lay all the blame at his feet for when the offense struggled and giving him zero credit for when the offense played well is just not fair and you know it. If you think Matt Cassell is better than Sanchez or that Sanchez was not pretty good in 2010 especially in the playoffs I am not sure what you are looking for in a QB. Sanchez needs to more consistent and hold on to the football. Is the inconsistency do to the OC and talent around him? We will find out. The fumbling is all on him
2010 Sanchez was pretty mediocre based on the talent around him. Great game in the playoffs against NE. Not including Sanchez we had 7 1st round picks on our starting O. 3 on the OL, 1 at RB, 2 at WR, 1 at TE.
Continuity. Why did they take away something that was working then? You deteriorate the talent around him, and say, "hey kid we took your weapons, go win us some football games." Is there something wrong with that? Or that just me? I doubt Mark makes it, but if wins the starting position with players like Kolb and Garrard competing against him, it's worth seeing him play another year.
I don't think I've ever said that Sanchez was the only reason our offense was bad in 2012. What made the offense good in 2009 and 2010 mostly had nothing to do with Mark. That is just realistic, and it's reflected in his statistics. I'm looking for a quarterback who scores twice as many touchdowns as he has turnovers. Somewhere in the 20-30 td range to 10 turnovers. Preferably he can break 4000 yards passing in a season. If you don't like statistics and prefer "feelings" and whats "fair" then what I'm looking for is a quarterback who when he drops back to pass, doesn't make me feel like a passenger on a plane piloted by Hellen Keller.
The Jets were built to win in a short window. We probably had the best team in football in 08 and 09. 08 Favre got hurt 09 Sanchez sucked. In 2010 we were pretty good but ran out of gas against Pittsburgh. A better QB might well have got us a SB one of those years. You can't keep everyone we made choices.
who cares about 1st rd picks? sometimes they make it and sometimes they don't. It's a big deal that LT wa sa 1st rd pick in 2001 or Woody in 1999? Do we forget Holmes msised the first 4 games? we had quality talent, nothing spectacular and Sanchez had an excellent season.
If the defense did their job in 2010 we would of been in the SB. We had some misfortune in 2009 with Greene going down. If we could continue to run the football, we could of been in the SB that year too. Peyton Manning ripped us a new one though in that game.
