Whoever wins the QB competition will start, doesn't matter who it is. If some way Sanchez beats out Garrard, then he's going to start.

Time to deal with reality, the CS doesn't care what you think.

The reality is with Sanchez as the starting QB this team is going nowhere in 2013. That's about as plainly as I can put it. Garrard will probably yield the same result however we won't know until we see him take some game snaps.

I said he has yet to START another QB in a meaningful game.

As for what motivation Rex would have to start Sanchez despite somebody being better? Who knows why he does what he does. But history has shown he is loyal to guys despite it being detrimental to the team. Continuing to start Bart Scott/Calvin Pace with the season down the tubes is a great example of this too. For Jet fans, hopefully a new GM and last year's debacle have changed his tune. As a Phin fan, I hope he is still his stubborn self.

Scott has only really played on running downs for last 2 years. He has been vocally unhappy with his reduced role.
In terms of Pace, who could they have possibly started instead? they have no OLB's. McIntire got a lot of playing time while Thomas was out.
This notion of 'loyalty to point of being detrimental' is a media fabrication, which many on this board have bought into.

In terms of QB, i guarantee Rex has no pre-conceived notion of starting Sanchez. Quite the opposite i'd think. Without vast improvement at QB, Rex is gone and he knows it.
I hope Idzik is smart enough to bring in more than just Garrard as his answer to the QB position for 2013.

I will be happy if there is true competition this year. Maybe Rex can change.

Who cares if Bart "only" played run downs. He was terrible at tackling this year and Rex was too stubborn to put Demario in for more snaps even as it became apparent the Jets weren't going to make any sort of playoff run. Now Demario is pegged for a larger role next year and he has less playing experience because Rex just had to play his boy Bart Scott. It took Idzik coming in for him to finally get shitcanned. I know this was the first time his cap figure was friendly enough to cut him but that doesn't mean Rex had to keep playing him. Same goes for the dude tattooed on Rex's arm.

As for Calvin Pace, he was also terrible. When you have aging veterans who are terrible and taking them out isn't hurting your playoff chances, you play whoever the hell else is on the roster so you know what you have going forward. That is not a media fabrication.

to be fair davis didnt look so great when he was on the field last year. granted once the season was lost it only makes sense to play him for experience sake. but like you said rex is TOO loyal to HIS guys.

i hope there is a sanchez sucks chant at the draft this year.

Maybe RR and his staff wanted to bring him along slowly ala Coples, Wilson, and Ellis? The only rook to step in right away has been Wilkerson, this is a complex D that takes time to learn. D Davis played the majority of the NE games as well, any pass-happy teams we played D Davis was given more reps.

You don't know the rationale behind playing time with this or any staff.

Like you said, if there's something that nobody should be questioning about Rex, is how he runs his defense. I'm sure that he had Davis sit out because he knows that its best for him that way.

As for being loyal to Mark Sanchez, how can anyone argue that Mark didn't give us the best shot to win? Tim Tebow sucks, and McElroy showed what he's got, I still want him to have a shot to be the starter next year though.

I thought about that before I made my post. In another thread I saw people make mention that Bart knew the scheme better but was too slow, while Davis didn't understand the D. I understand all that, but in order for a guy to learn a complex D it can only help him to get more reps. You can't teach an aging Bart Scott to be faster.

It is hard to believe that he gave the team the best shot to win after abysmal performance after abysmal performance. And even if he is the best guy in theory, you can't continue to give him chances if he's playing like shit. Rex had to at least give McElroy or Tebow a start in meaningful games, which he failed to do. That goes for any QB. If Peyton Manning started playing like dog shit game after game after game I would expect him to sit for a game as well. You need accountability.

No rookies, including Wilkerson, Coples, Ellis, Davis, saw extensive time their rook season. It's a complicated defense, and Rex has more trust in the guys who have been doing it a long time. Most of Davis action was on passing situations, which like Coples is exactly why he was drafted.
Why don't you just bitch about him playing Devito instead of Coples on running downs. It's the same thing, you are way off base here.
And who would possibly start over Pace, considering McIntire was already playing? lol, you don't just start 'whoever the hell else is on your roster'.

Really, it took Idzik to come in for Bart to get canned? lol, that was happening even if Tanny was here. everyone knew it. Bart was guaranteed his money last year, so wasn't happening then.
Same with Sanchez. He will be cut next year.....so there is no reason to coddle him into the position any longer. He only starts if he has a great camp, or if Idzik is stupid enough not to bring in any true competition.

It's obvious you just have a hard on for Rex and maybe Scott, as your arguments here are laughable.

The Dolphin fan returns now criticizing our coach and defense. Mark did not play abysmal until Cardinals game and was benched. Beat Jacksonville the next week. How quickly everybody forgets Tebow was hurt.

Tennessee game Rex rolled the dice thought Mark was out of his funk and activated another receiver because every receiver on the roster was hurt and we just signed Braylon with gimpy hammy. It turned out with horrible play calling and Mark not playing well it was a really bad decision not activating Mccelroy.

Then guess what Mccelroy started the next week and lost and got hurt. Tebow was not in the plans for this team so why start him the last game?

    I love revisionist history.

    26/36 301 1 1 - Can anyone tell me what these are?

Wilkerson and Ellis don't matter because there was reason not to play them as you guys had a good shot at the playoffs deep into 2011. Coples did end up playing a good amount of snaps as 2012 went on, no? I'd have to look at snap % numbers comparatively but that was the impression I got. In a season in which the playoffs are out of reach (everybody in the world knew the Jets had no chance in 2012) you have to let the unknowns become knowns as much as possible.

As for your 2nd paragraph, as I said, just because a guy is on the roster with an inflated salary doesn't mean you have to play them when they are playing terrible.

I don't have a "hard on" for Rex or anybody. Rex is a great D coach but I think he gets a pass from a lot of people here for poor coaching decisions and being stubborn. I think he will learn and become a great all around coach if he doesn't get fired.

Playing a rookie LB is playing a rookie QB. The jets were still in playoff contention and BS called the plays. Nope had to be Rex is stubborn great football analysis.

I have no issues with Rex choices with defensive personnel. What he's been doing has been working ok.

I'd agree with you that Sanchez was left in about 2-3 weeks too long.
There seems to be this taboo about pulling the starting QB, in terms of their confidence and leadership perception on the team. i don't agree with this taboo. Treat the QB like Parcells would, which is like any other position.
They didn't do Sanchez any favors by letting him unravel those weeks.
I know the contract, and guarantee that he'd be on the team in 2013 was looming as well, but again you can't let that dictate who starts. Throw in no effective alternative on the bench, and it was a tough decision no doubt.
I think those things influenced his decision to keep starting Sanchez, more than 'loyalty'. But a quicker trigger on that move would have benefited the team.

not a doubt in my mind Sanchez comes back this season a changed man, refreshed from ridding the burden of Tebow. It's time for Mark to return to the trajectory that he was on before the entire tebow debacle.

I make it even money that Sanchez is cut after June 1st. The Jets won't do this until they have answered other questions at QB in the draft and via free agency.

Bringing in Garrard to hold the position down for a year as a drafted QB gets his feet on the ground is a very viable scenario.

LOL are you high man? Garrard?! Sanchez CUT?! come back to reality cause you talking loco. Ain't no way Sanchez gets cut. Rex, Sidzik, Woody, knows the future of the franchise is tied to the hips with Sanchez, they are not gonna cut their nose to spite their face just to please some masochistic and myopic fanbase.

Rex future could be tied to Sanchez. Idzik just walked in, he's not tied to anybody from the previous era. Woody is the damn owner & his future is guaranteed no matter what happens to this franchise.
