One is a QB the other is a CB that's why. That's like spending 10k to change your radio when the alternator is shot.
Keller had a terrible year, and he was hampered by injuries from week 1. That said, they should try to bring him back in on an incentive laden one year deal. He's not going to get great money in FA coming off this season, and this draft is deep in TEs. A 1 year deal with incentives is beneficial to both sides. Those who think Cumberland is a viable starting TE need to have their eyes examined. He's a terrible blocker, and he drops a bunch of passes. He's no starter, he's not even in Keller's league.
Ray Lewis is retireing, Ed Reed is a free agent, so is Paul Kruger. The Ravens had a lot of space come free at the end of the season.
It's not the current GMs fault he's left with a roster of mediocre talent that has bloated contracts. Handing out more big contracts to guys looking to cash in is not showing his worth. We need to trim the fat and rebuild through the draft.
Landry is priority #1. I'd also make Bell a priority since he'd come cheap and still plays pretty well. I think TE should be a top priority in the draft. Hopefully we can get some good picks out a dealing Revis and make some good moves to fortify this offense through the draft. The key is not how many picks we get, it's who we draft with them. I sure hope Idzik & our scouts do a good job here because this is really going to be a vital draft for the future of this team.
A talented TE that hasn't done shit. I hope Revis and Landry stays but don't want to see Keller. He is another clown that we slowly have to get off this team if we ever want to be a respectable organization. Holmes and Sanchez has to follow out the door shortly.
and won't we have a lot of cap space next year because we can get rid of sanchez and holme and people like that? its not like revis is a FA this season, its next season. and he cant even hold out
I don't care much for Keller coming back. I don't see Revis, Landry and Cromartie on this team at the same time next season either.
I wouldn't mind keeping Landry AND Revs, AND Cro, and all the other great players on Defense. AND draft a few more. I would love having an identity...a top Defense the beats the living hell out of every offense we play. On Offense? A few good linemen, a good RB, a fair QB who can throw the rock 15-20 times a game w/o turning it over 5 times. Score 15-20 pts a game then watch the Defense light it up.
I really don't think retaining all players for 2013 will be that difficult. Landry is the top priority of the offseason, he will be resigned. I can't imagine Keller will be asking for too much money coming off his injuries (if he does, let him walk). Revis is only owed $6 million in 2013, so he is not that much of a cap hit that people are making him out to be.
Unless they are willing to give the Jets a hometown discount, all three can take a hike. Priority is resigning Devito and getting our cap under control. We have a lot of holes to fill over the next 2-3 years.
If Keller gives a big discount I give him a shot since the west coast offense really uses a tight end and Keller could really see his production jump which coul dmake him a bargain in the end. Landry would be nice to have back but the deal has to be right. Revis - with the cap up $2 mil, a couple of contracts can be re-worked, and the cap for the jets really open up after this season there is no reason that Revis shouldn't be resigned for the right price. A CB can't get $16 million.
Look at how the salary cap is structured in B'more. Nobody received 10M salary last year. NO ONE. Ed Reed was the closest one at 9.8M. (And he's coming off the book this season. Along with Ray Lewis.) After that, a little of 5, 6, 7M salaries (Flacco belonged here), followed by slew of 3M or less, and then fringe players. They had sufficient cap space to operate, and nearly everyone on the roster was adequately compensated. Jets? Ya kiddin' me, right? For umpteenth time, let me repeat: Harris/Nacho/Tone/Cro/Revis/Mangold/Ferguson = 80M. The rest of 46 = 35M or so.
I love Devito but I'd rather have Coples develop, he's ready to be a starter. I don't think Devito should be a priority if he's gonna be a back-up.
lol at the premise they all want to stay. Of course they're going to say they want to stay, right up until March 12 when they all become UFA and odds are go to the highest bidder. Revis you know wants the cash, and does it make sense to pay the guy $15 million a year while we're rebuilding? Landry took a one-year deal last year, he's definitely going to want a big payday this year. Keller, who the **** knows what his market even is.
I think Keller could be really importanrt this year with a WC system and if we can get him we should. Landry would be a dream come true but I just don't think we can sign him. If we do I will go nuts! Even though staying healthy for him will always be a concern.. just out luck we would sign him to a big deal and he would go down week 2 next year.. Revis is such a headache
I'm amazed how many people piss on Keller here. He's improved his blocking, he's not great at it, but not many fast pass-catching tight ends are. The numbers he has put up with Sanchez at QB are pretty good. I'm confident Keller would be a 1300 yards/year guy with a good QB who targets TEs like Brady, Rivers or Brees. He was injured last year....that happens. Doesn't mean he's gonna be injured this year.
His job is to put the best product on the field with all 53 guys. If he feels the best way to put a team together is to move anyone of them, that is what he should do.
This is exactly what I was thinking. I think what a lot of people are overlooking when they say "look how good our secondary was last year without Revis" is the fact that we had Landry who is one of the best safeties in the league, and if Ed retires this year he moves closer to the top. I really like Keller but I don't feel like he can't be replaced, and when you account for his salary cutting into bringing back Landry or tossing another bone to Revis... well, he's going to have to come cheap.
